2-1 Lazio! Milinkovic-Savic with nice control and finish.

How is Mil-Savic playing this Season?

Looked like he was getting close to his 17/18 form with some nice displays a few weeks ago. Still not quite at that level yet though.

I’m a Man Utd fan....have to say I think we dodged a bullet in not signing him in Summer after that good season.....he was anonymous at World Cup last year.

Milan unlucky not to beat Sassuolo. When I saw it finished goalless I assumed they were poor again, but watching the highlights they were all over them. Leao hit the post twice and Sassuolo keeper Pegolo had a strong game.

Verona vs Torino highlights are worth a look. Torino were 3-0 up before Verona got 3 late goals to grab a point.

Juve back on top after beating Udinese with Ronaldo getting two goals. He was very good today and unlucky not to get a hat-trick. Woodwork denied him. Thought his first goal was very nice.

Inter away at Fiorentina next, looking to go back on top. Going to give that game a look. Fiorentina been awful of late so you'd expect an Inter win, but who knows...

Inter held to a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina thanks to a brilliant goal by Vlahovic in the 92nd minute. Conte will be gutted as Inter should have got the second goal and put it beyond doubt. Lukaku was denied more than once by Dragowski.

Means Inter and Juve are level at the top on 39 points.

That's one of Lukaku's biggest issues, he's just not clinical enough in front of goals. He should of had 1 or least 2 goals tonight.

Wastefulness in front of goal is really costing Inter recently, based on the highlights they easily could have thumped Barcelona (albeit a very weakened team) to go through in the Champions League midweek only to end up in the Europa league instead. The good news is they are creating the chances at least.

Serie A as a league really don't help themselves at all

I will be fascinated to know what the thoughts process was

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,643 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I read a BBC article where they explain what the idea behind it was:
At a news conference on Monday, artist Simone Fugazzotto, who always uses monkeys in his work, said: "For an artist there is nothing more important than trying to change the perception of things through his own work.

"I decided to portray monkeys to talk about racism because they are the metaphor for human beings. Last year I was at the stadium to see Inter v Napoli [a match in which Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly was racially abused] and I felt humiliated, everyone was shouting 'monkey' at Koulibaly, a player I respect.

"I've always been painting monkeys for five to six years, so I thought I'd make this work to teach that we're all apes, I made the western monkey with blue and white eyes, the Asian monkey with almond-shaped eyes and the black monkey positioned in the centre, where everything comes from. The monkey becomes the spark to teach everyone that there is no difference, there is no man or monkey, we are all alike. If anything we are all monkeys."

Serie A chief executive Luigi de Siervo said: "The League's commitment against all forms of prejudice is strong and concrete, we know that racism is an endemic and very complex problem, which we will tackle on three different levels; the cultural one, through works like that of Simone; the sporting one, with a series of initiatives together with clubs and players, and the repressive one, thanks to collaboration with the police."

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50814275

I wouldn't blame the artist in this case if he tends to use monkeys in his work, but very stupid of Serie A to not see the potential for this to backfire.

Dramatic game tonight in Serie A as Cagliari blew a 1-0 lead by conceding twice to Lazio in stoppage time.

Jebus I turned off the tv 6 mins into extra time, did not see Lazio scoring a second goal.

What a unbelievable result, this Lazio team are some group, you can you see how cohesive they are and that never die spirit

Really great to see Juve have some competition to their crown

I'm thinking it's "we are all apes", but of course the context of racial abuse and the history of it ... hmm maybe not the best direction to take..

Exactly... it works as a standalone art piece in a gallery, but as something affiliated with - and commissioned by - the Italian FA as a mainstream anti-racism campaign, it's utterly idiotic.

Watch Ronaldo's header from the game against Samp tonight. The hang-time and height he gets is crazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,643 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Serie A's channel have uploaded it:

The spring he manages for his headers is incredible. If you watch the last super slow motion one he hasn't even touched the defender.

Has there been a better header than that anywhere this season? Nothing's coming to mind for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,625 ✭✭✭lassykk

I've watched that over and over. It's unbelievable how high he jumps and how long he hangs with no lean on the defender.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,832 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Your Sunday league team would be better than this Genoa team, it's embarrassing defending

It's so bad Motta deserves to get sacked at half time

Pleased for Lukaku to see out the year in style. That second goal was a cracker. Could have had a hat-trick but he let the youngster Esposito have the pen. Inter and Juve level going into 2020.

Big result for SPAL winning away at Torino. Lifts them off the bottom with Genoa now at the foot of the table.

what attracts me to italian football is the style of play and especially the teams of the 90s and 2000s that were so good to watch

i have always been fascinated by the madness attached to the league also , between the inter ultras issuing a plea to countries in northern europe (mainly england) that they are not racist despite defending the calgarys supporters monkey chants to one of there players , brescia done the same thing a few weeks earlier this season also when baloteli was targeted

it is almost clear to suggest that people in italy are educated far far more differently then we are when it comes to this subject , you have to realise they vast majority of clubs in northern italy make monkey chants to napoli supporters also regardless of skin colour but for not being italian enough , (argentina v italy in the 1990 world cup would be a good place to start )

its a very strange country i was never surprised by the tweet , but they have years to go before they even get close to this issue

Ac Milan getting destroyed here :/

Another season of mediocrity and languishing mid table

The club needs a huge injection of money for the transfer market and get a manager in who knows what they are doing.

Wow just seen the scoreline. That's Milan's worst defeat in 21 years. What a mess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Even though I only saw a 4 minute YouTube highlights video it could have been even more than 5.
The defending for the 1st and 3rd was very bad but the 4th & 5th was beyond pathetic. Muriel was made look like a 100m Olympic sprinter for the last one. I'm not sure was Musacchio lazy or is unathletic.

Sassuolo leading Napoli after 30 minutes. Traore with the goal. Not a good start for Napoli who haven't managed an effort on target.

Half-time and Napoli still haven't worked the keeper. Sassuolo playing some nice stuff and worthy of the lead.

1-1. Allan with a nice finish just before the hour mark minutes after Sassuolo miss the chance for 2-0.

Wow Napoli nick it in the final seconds via an Obiang O.G for Gattuso's first win. Very harsh on Sassuolo who I think deserved something from the game. They'll be gutted.

Lazio won the Supercoppa against Juve, 1-3.

Inzaghi really seems to have gotten their number in the last few years.

Educated different from who? Fans in England?
They are just the same. I am watching bbc now. Ignorants is global, not just Italian

Sorry but that's simply not true.
When was the last time you saw the level of racism in English stands that you can sometimes see in Italy ?

The difference is that in Italy all the way up to the FA people don't see the problem, they think it's overstated or don't get why it's bad.
You simply don't have that in England imo.

This is the prime example of what I'm talking about:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djS-zWPZwFM

The guy is praising Lukaku but doesn't even understand why a comment about bananas is stupid.

from ireland , and yes most english people also , in italy racism is accepted , if players protest or complain about receiving abuse they get fined clubs like inter, lazio , brescia , fiorentina ,hellas verona ect all bring and wave right wing banners to games , its openly accepted in the country to be this way inclined
which it is not tolerated in britain or ireland , here its a major offence
