A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist, a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law.

    The A-Team.

In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem... if no one else can help... and if you can find them... maybe you can hire... The A-Team.

'This is Jesse Mach, an ex motorcycle cop, injured in the line of duty. Now a police trouble shooter, he's been recruited for a top secret government mission to ride Streethawk... an all terrain attack motorcycle designed to fight urban crime, capable of incredible speeds up to 300 miles per hour, and immense firepower.

Only one man, federal agent Norman Tuttle, knows Jesse Mach's true identity. The man... the machine... Streethawk.'

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: The police, who investigate crime, and the district attorneys, who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories.

From season two onwards the last line was changed to ' I take care of both of them, cause when they met, it was murder.'

I can't recall much of it, other than I loved it. It never seemed to be repeated- unlike everything else. Really should see if it's easily available on DVD some day.

A few years back I was talking to someone who grew up in East Germany (USSR) and she was telling me her parents used to tune in this show at night (from West Germany) for her and her siblings and swear them to secrecy about having watched it.

Back in the day this used to air on ITV on Sunday nights before/after something like the South Bank Show and for ages I would see it in the TVTimes listings and think it was some dreary political debate show ... how wrong I was:

    Sledge Hammer pic

Remember when an episode ended with the world being destroyed (he probably cut the red wire instead of the blue in an atomic bomb or something), and then it said "To be continued..."

I was thinking, "How are they going to continue from this?"

The next episode started with "The following events occurred five years before the events of the previous episode."
