Sand Snake's aren't popular but I'm not looking forward to the last one's end. I have a feeling The Mountain will be involved.

Found this episode fast paced and I liked it. Was It me or was Dany a bit of a c**t. Nice to see Arya returning to Winterfell

Really enjoyed it and it really moved forwards too. Didn't care much for the greyworm missendei scene or get the point of the wolf scene but all the pieces are slotting into place. Really hate having to wait another week!

Will she though? Maybe I read too much into the scene with her Direwolf?

By saying that her wolf is no longer the same, isn't she making the point about herself? She isn't the same little girl so why go back to Winterfell. Wouldn't surprise me to see her back on the road to Kings Landing next episode.

Another excellent episode.Looked like it was going to be just like last weeks episode with a lot of talking and planning but not much action and then boom we get a great battle sequence.

It must be dreadful to be Alfie Allen now (purely from an acting perspective).You go from playing a character who's full of life and mischief to playing a complete nothing of a character now.

I've only been watching on TV for the last 2 seasons but it is much better to watch on DVD in bulk.Same as yourself I'm dying to get to next weeks episode.

I don't know. He had a tough choice. He couldn't save Yara. The minute he attacked Euron, he'd slit her throat and start on Theon. Unlikely Theon could beat him in a fight, so best choice was to do what he did. At least Yara will be kept as a hostage. For the moment.

I get that, but Theon knows what can happen to hostages - death may have been kinder option for Yara

He does. But he also knows that escape is possible. Plus or minus a few bits. Mostly minus I hasten to add.

Theon is one of the best written and best acted characters in the show for me.

I can see why people didn't like Grey Worm and Missandei's scene but it needed some quick payoff and now it's out of the way.

It also explained his leadership of the unsullied. He had no weaknesses.

Agreed there; I figure that scene was more fan-service than anything else.

I had been thinking that the show might get a little too predictable considering they're on the path to tying up all of the characters stories. I figured Theon would save the day and it was nice to see the story skirt away from what seems obvious.

I think Theon is a great character; the poor guy always gets knocked down, and while I believe he has great intentions he's never in a position where he can improve his situation. I hope he gets a chance to shine in the coming episodes.

I was delighted to see Ser Jorah back in the fold too!

A good episode overall.

He's a top 5 character now just for killing off the Sand Snakes, worst part of the entire series by a country mile.

Fair point,we watched it on Sky. Still had to close the curtains to make out some scenes.

I find that a big problem when watching it at 6am before work, its too bright outside and I'm cranky as hell. Had to switch from Rice Krispies to porridge as the snap, crackle and pop was making too much noise during scenes of heavy dialogue.

Yeah, he's been undervalued up to now really. A sterling character who's reputation as a badass must surely be gaining currency.

He certainly seems to have a yen for Cersei and he is proving to be more than a match for Jaime in their franc exchanges.

Pound for pound he's well up to the mark.

After last week, this one felt much more like the Game of Thrones I remember.

At first it felt like it was continuing to wrap things up.

- oh look, this is how they'll win the war
- oh look, this is how we'll sort out everyones problems
- oh look, it's all happy days for everyone except the lannister homelands

Much doubt cast on all plans now. Just to see if they have enough in the tank to deliver an epic ending.

I suppose the biggest concern is the gore. They go overboard like that too early and the money might be spent way too early.

I just don't understand Jamie as a character anymore.
He's back with Cersei and despite the fact she blew up half of King's Landing, killing civilians and the Lannisters' only remaining allies and clearly becoming madder by the minute, he's still stuck by her side trying to get people to bend the knee to her.
I just don't understand what the point was in having him undergo the journey he went on earlier in the show and all that character development just to have him become a lapdog for Cersei.
That character has totally lost its way, imo.

Also, Euron is one of the worst styled characters ever in the show.

Poor Greyworm admitted on screen that he has a reason to live. So I assume he's not long for this world :pac:

Enjoyed the episode a lot. Felt really long, they crammed a lot into it.

I felt a little like they were saying "Wow, these Sand Snakes are really unpopular, let's just get rid of them" but hey, I'm happy enough with how it went.

Also, glad to see the two fleets come together. As someone said last week, they were both crossing a relatively narrow strait, it was practically destined to happen.

It'll probably spell the end of Danerys trusting Tyrion's judgement. Olenna planted the seed of doubt, but now that the first of his plans have literally gone up in flames, I don't know how keen she'll be to trust his tactics again. Could be interesting if/when Jon arrives to meet her after Tyrion bigging him up. I don't expect Jon to bend the knee like she wants.

Dany's attitude during this episode made me feel like she may end up as mad as her father by the end. Be a very unexpected twist if she ended up being the "bad guy".

She's not exactly squeaky clean either.She's shown a few times already that she can be pretty cruel when she needs to be.Pretty much every character in the show up to now has been at some point a bad guy.

I know that but in general she's been one of the "good guys" with an unmerciful side. I read a fan theory of how the series might end that this episode has made me believe may come to fruition. I'll put it in spoiler tags because I know this isn't the speculation thread. Hope that's okay mods, if not just snip it. Again there's literally nothing but speculation to back it up.

What if dany does end up going completely mad and becoming the bad guy, and Jon ends up being the one who kills her? Would definitely be a surprise ending and GRRM I believe has already stated the ending of the series is going to be bittersweet, that certainly would be.

Excellent episode, felt a bit like Silicon Valley with the perfect plan going to ****e at the last minute.

I thought it was a pretty great episode overall. So much seemed to happen in the hour.

Frankly, I've always found anything involving Daenerys to be pretty boring compared to all of the other sub-plots: she goes here, she goes there, faces opposition, but always manages to triumph because, y'know, dragons. But at least now we can see how maybe there is a chance for a bit of unexpected drama, with plans suddenly going awry. I will say that I have never really warmed to Daenerys as a character, even after six seasons, and to see her acting like a haughty wagon at times during the episode only confirmed my view of her to be honest.

Liked the Arya stuff - but I always like the Arya stuff. It was a nice callback to meet up again with Hotpie - the one citizen of Westeros who continues to get halier and heartier in the face of the constant privation and warfare all around. Fair play to him. Make him King - he obviously is doing something right.

So it seems that Jorah is on his way to being on the mend, but, by christ, those few glimpses of his skin being peeled off were terrifically horrible to watch. I knew the show wouldn't pass on the opportunity to be utterly rank about it, but they really went all out - that leaking pus. Ah Heyor!

I agree with the theory that Greyworm - now that he can die a happy scowling man - won't be coming back from his mission. I didn't think the scene between him and Missandei was handled in the best way possible. I totally get why that scene had to happen and I actually thought Greyworm opening up about his feelings and fears was quite well done, but, the rest of it was a bit tone deaf - even for a show that doesn't even know that subtlety exists. It could have been the first genuinely tender and moving love scene in GoT history. Instead it went on far too long and strayed firmly into the regular territory of "Phwoar, lookatthat!".

Meanwhile we had Jon being Jon - trying to do the right thing and taking flack for it. Wasn't so sure how to read that scene with Littlefinger. On one hand Jon was being a bit of an ungrateful so-and-so to the man that effectively saved his life, but, on the other hand, it's Littlefinger - who bloody well knows what he's up to. It's funny, because I think Aiden Gillen is a truly terrible actor - he's so wooden and always appears to be a man "acting" a part on screen instead of properly inhabiting a character, but it sort of works for him at times on Game of Thrones; he's such a bad actor that when Littlefinger might actually be telling the truth about something you can never fully buy it.

Cersei and Jaime were in there too - wheeling and dealing, but not up to much so far this season. Well, aside, from a bit of cross-bowing. Some significant cross-bowing I suppose, but I kind of view their chances with that implement as similar to McGregor landing a potential Superman punch on Floyd Mayweather's head: yeah it could happen, but they'd have to get awfully lucky.

And yeah the battle -

The battle sequence was properly terrific. One of those parts of Game of Thrones when I remember why I love it so much. Epic, gruelling, frenetic action that equals anything I've seen on a cinema screen in scale and execution, but with a feeling of greater import and lashings and lashings of generous helpings of gore. And no more of those godawful annoying sand-snakes. In fairness they went out with a bang. At times I thought the action was perhaps a bit too frenetic and hard to follow, but I grew to like the way it was all put together - little touches like the random near miss by fireball or the omnipresent sparks - and the climax with poor oul Theon gave a proper resonance to all the stylised mayhem that came before it. And it really changes a lot in terms of plot too. Also the single best moment of the entire episode was the look Yara gave Theon seconds before the attack began - that ah sure I'm going to have a bit of sex now look.

I can't help but like Euron. When he appeared from nowhere during the last season I did think, "who the hell is this Eurotrash"? But he's been steadily impressive in this season. He's a shittalking arrogant asskicker in the mould of Oberyn Martell - without any of the honour of course, but he's defintely got something.

The fact that there was no Ed Sheeran this week means that the episode was several hundred times better than last week. So far I'm okay with the noticably quicker pacing of this season, which was to be expected. Hopefully things won't get too rushed, but thumbs up for this week and I'm already licking my lips for next time.
