I was told by my local VW dealer that the 1.5 is coming to Ireland later this year (2018). No word or whether it will be the ACT version though.

There's too many engines across VAG cars and limited selections. The 95hp TSI in the new Polo is DSG only but the Ibiza has a manual 95hp and even the 110hp TSI that the Golf/Leon have.

It would be great if they got rid of those underpowered MPI engines seeing as how they're offering lower powered 1.0 across the range and there's little cost difference to a TSI anyway.

My sister was pricing a new Polo and she's sick of how slow small cars are, the 65hp TSI is a joke but even the 75hp is slow. Don't see why the 95hp can't be offered in manual or why the 110hp can't be offered like it is on the Ibiza.

The Up! is the same. We only get a 60hp version. Elsewhere there is 75hp and a 90hp turbo. I have access to the 60hp version and it is a slug, although a quite nice to drive slug

Didn't know that, but that proves my point even further! Restricted to high spec but also a 'flagship' engine that is in all the Golf equivalents...and even the Ibiza. Surprised they didn't force the DSG with it for more money but at the same time the DSG isn't available, but is with the 115hp.

And again, why does Seat have 115hp but VW has 110hp? You'd need a large spreadsheet to cover these engines.

    Hello,
I have a question somewhat related to the original post that maybe someone can help with. I'm close to purchasing a 2016 Golf 1.4 tsi GT. I've tried finding out if this engine has a timing belt or timing chain and can't get a definite answer. So I'm hoping someone on here might be able to tell me as I'm aware that there were issues with timing chains on some earlier tsi engines. If it does have a timing chain, are there still problems with this in 2016 models or were necessary improvements made. Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

Belt. The EA211 generation of engines is good.

Well the 1.5 engine is finally available to order in the Golf. It is the ACT version too according to my local dealer. I have to admit the Mk7.5 Golf is looking a little dated now so I am going to wait to see what the Mk8 brings.
