you are right. But you can use that to find their users web provider and check if it is irish.

If you could get them to view a page you could probably get other usernames and accounts by checking cookies but that is a bit more involved.

Document everything that constitutes a threat and go to the Gardai.

i think it can get closer than country.

i remember searching my own ip and being given a nearby service provider.

think about those annoying tracker ads that say the likes of 'free iphone in (your suburb)'

theres one on the waterfordwhispers site for example - almost got me the bastards.

if they can get a customised ad that mentions my neighboring town then theres a chance op can get a radius on the troll.

I tried it out there on my self I opened up the pm I sent to the OP in sent items and copied the ip address from the log of my website activity into http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and it brought it down to below county level . Surely you could go to the guards with this information if they were in the same county it is in their jurisdiction and a complaint is made.

I live in the west of Ireland and sometimes my IP says I'm in Dublin, I don't think you can rely to much on those IP addresses.

In my case they did not much. They said they'd keep an eye out on my gaf whenever they're in the area and to call them If I see anything suspicious.

    You're watching too many films.

Nah, you see I have had to get them involved in online harassment on a few occasions now and they have done quiet a bit. A young female friend of mine was getting death threats off some lad she didnt know, I brought her to the station and the guards dealt with it and she heard no more from the lad.

On another occasion I know where they tracked down a person using another persons pictures online to harrass and insult others. Again they stamped it out.

As someone who works in cyber security and analysis, I'd like to help but as I have an employer, I'd prefer not to mention the name.

Knowing your YouTube channel would be good so we could look for posting trends and naming conventions, and through data inference, we could get closer to the suspect.

By "we", I mean me and anyone else with the same interests and objectives.

Ignore those saying "don't give your YouTube name/account". If you're coming to a public forum for help, other than going to the Garda or reporting to YouTube, you really don't have an option if you don't want to pay for such expertise.

Good luck in finding out who it is and hopefully putting a stop to it.

A solicitor who specialises in cases like this might be your best option, if the said person is having an effect on your business then maybe going down this route might help.

They can give you advice and maybe know how to solve the problem for you. You tube is a great tool for business if used right so you shouldn't have to shut down your account cos of some a**hole with nothing better to do.

Would not be much good to the OP directly, but could give an indication of who the ISP is, and they would have the details.

I do think you're onto something regarding lodging complaints about IP infringement

I would LOVE it if they personally emailed or Skyped me, would make thing so much easier in finding them.
And ive more or less ignored it for 2 months, hes still going. They must know me IRL..

Any chance you could play them at their own game, "use indirection to find direction out" as the quote goes ? Set up some fake accounts pretending to be someone who might be of interest to them, random sexy girl /sexy boy/ marketing manager interested in using bloggers for advertising... something alluring. Then start commenting on some page and congratulate them on something "clever" they've said, try and message them somewhere via text, play along and see of you can get a feel for who they might be?

Does sound like a lot of hard work for someone who doesn't know you. I think if you had any line of communication with them you might get a feel for who it could be if they're someone you know, even vaguely .

About 11 years ago I used to upload guitar playing videos to YouTube. Someone started contacting me pretending he really loved them and asked me to do a cover of a song he wrote. I didn't really want to but he practically begged me so I did. At the same time someone else was making videos and writing abusive things about me in the description. It got really creepy when he made a video where he wrote about seven paragraphs about me and how the world would be a better place if I killed myself.

I noticed a few clues that led me to the conclusion that he and the lad that asked me to cover his song were the same person. He was actually arguing with his alter ego in the comment section of his own videos to make it look like he was defending me. The effort this weirdo I didn't know put into this was unbelievable.

I reported him for saying I should kill myself and YouTubes response was "sorry, this isn't a violation of our terms of service". I decided then and there to delete my account, more as a way of boycotting YouTube than anything.

None of this is much help to you but my point is that some idiot with too much time on his hands can just decide to try and make a complete strangers life misery for absolutely no reason. It's most likely not anyone you know. It's probably some loser with no life that picked you at random to abuse. You should stop worrying that this will go beyond the internet or that he'll start harassing your family.

    People are ****ing weirdos
The effort involved is crazy. And for what? Absolutely nothing.

Did you ever find out who it was?

I definitely didn't know him. He seemed to be American. I think he just watched a couple of my videos, didn't think my musical skills were up to much, and decided that was a good enough reason to stalk me.

God that's unnerving. There are some serious nutcases out there. You'd wonder what head space you'd be in to be bothered with a random stranger off the internet. Obviously he was unhinged, hope you didn't take his critique seriously either. :)

This is pretty much what this guy is at and a lot of people are falling for it and reporting me/sending me **** over it, I've seen him have conversations with himself using different channels in the comments section too.

    e.g.
User 1: "Hey I saw the racist comment you left asshole"
User 2: "What, the one on *so and so* video"
User 1: "Yeah, that one, the f-ing scumbag"
User 3: "What a racist turd, I feel sorry for anyone subscribed to him"
    User 2: "Yeah.. I know I'm unsubbing!"

You get the idea. He writes in a certain way so I know its him (he tends to use a lot of '...' in his sentences). There are some utter lunatics out there. In a way I hope he does try to contact me, if I get an email or a number I can find out who this scumbag is.

Reminds me of a guy I used to work with in a call centre. He used to log into a chatroom under two different accounts and chat away to himself all day!

Fingers crossed you'll get your nutter sorted out OP. Just a shame you can't post your page - you'd have a Boards militia backing you up to hunt down the b0llix!

    I don't know if that's a good idea.

Your feeding the troll if you do that

OP, you have got to take action one way or the other. This person is not going to get bored and go away - even if they did, there's no guarantee they would stay away indefinitely. You've tried ignoring it, but it's clear that's not going to work.
I've seen countless channels picked apart over the years, and don't be surprised if that person is actively trying to phish/guess your password. Google and YouTube will be do nothing by the way, even the biggest YouTubers struggle with false copyright claims and malicious impersonators.

I personally think you should take action by linking your channel here - I don't see what you have to lose. Collectively we could try to help work out who the person is. In response to a suggestion a few posts back, what if you were to create another account that served as a second fake troll and get to know your perpetrator better? I personally don't think the perpetrator would fall for a person pretending to be a boy/girl, but they would love nothing more than having a partner in crime that would help troll you. It could be a case of short term pain, long term gain.

OP I'd bet my life saving that this person is someone who has a rival/similar channel on YouTube and is trying to eliminate the competition

Are there many similar channels out there? I'd start with them.

What if the OP is actually the impostor? Heh? Heh?

    Plot twist.
