Was reading up recently about how Thatcher banned Gerry Adams' voice and basically anyone affiliated with Sinn Fein from being broadcasted on the airways in her "broadcast ban" act of 1988. So instead of hearing any of the lads, you'd get an actor dubbing over with a transcript of their exact words.

My boyfriend grew up in London during that time and basically never knew what Adams sounded like until years later and was like "wtf is up with yer man's voice!"

Shady shady move by the British government but I suppose given the amount of blood shed during those times you can see where it was coming from. Almost certainly wouldn't hold up to today's social media culture though.

to be fair that bann was the biggest joke of thatcher's time in power. pointless, a waste of time, and an absolute failure. the message still got out.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

This came up in the Election thread.

If you want an idea of how the internet might have worked have a look at just one selection of social media posts that are telling the British public just what the DUP stand for.

They will find out the hard way now.

So the UK government is made up of the DUP. A group with strong links to unionist terrorists. Moral high ground is lost here folks. The UK government has no problems with unionist terrorists.

An almost perfect storm of a day which saw the DUP introduced to the British public, who have almost to a man and woman, recoiled in disgust comes to an end with the news that somebody hacked 3 of their websites into Irish.

Sometimes the internet is perfect. :D
