Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah considering so many people loved The Wire you'd have thought there would have been a lot more watching.

I think perhaps the fact that Franco was getting metoo'd in the middle of it's run hurt the show a bit, combined with the subject matter. Of course, if you actually watch the show you know there is a huge pro women thread weaved through the show, and it's done really well, as in it's realistic and well considered (the scene where Andrea Dworkin calls Candy out for example)

They also moved the time slot in the States which always screws things up. It was on Sunday and they moved it to I think Monday. Sunday is certainly a better night to get ratings. I think a show about porn and prostitution though is always going to struggle a bit as not every household is going to feel comfortable watching it together, especially in the US where HBO is one of only 2-3 channels that show nudity even to this day, and you have to pay separately for it. Whereas here we have shows like Naked Attraction on our free channels.

I hate to say it because I love her work in the show and elsewhere but perhaps having a more conventionally attractive actress as Candie would have brought more viewers in. I only say this because a friend who I suggested the show to said he didn't want to watch it because he didn't like her (he's an idiot of course). But not a lot of actresses would be brave enough to play that role, let alone be good enough to be as believable as she was. It's not like real life hookers actually look like Julia Roberts anyway I personally think it's lame to have them be all perfect looking.

I'll probably end up rewatching it all this year some time. It was so underrated.

Finally got around to finishing this. David Simon does it again!! A total gem. Franco and Gyllenhal seemed hugely involved in production too, so massive credit to them and all involved.

It really is mad how generally unknown this appears to be. Deserved huge success but it didn't suffer at all quality wise.

    I gotta start Treme.

Big fan of David Simon, Watched over half this show now and am waiting on any dramatic tension.

The show just meanders along with no real shape other than all the main characters are being more successful. I don’t know, just kind of an empty room.

I quite liked it but felt too it wasn't very cohesive

Not mad gone on the the porn angle, bit tedious

I could be wrong but I don’t think it’s has much crossover appeal with Simon’s previous work. To me it would appeal to fans of shows like Glow perhaps.

As someone who has been a fan of Simon's work since Homicide: Life on the Street and the book it was based on I wouldn't agree at all. Right up there with his best.

Have never seen Glow so can't comment on that.

Series 3 episode 2 had hard cocks and facials seen on a tv screen in close up. Not sure how that got left in.

    Why not?

Its ridiculous censoring things these days when anyone can see the same thing on their laptop.

As far as I know you can’t show erect penii ejaculating on faces on television but I’m open to correction from experts in the field.

The US is probably covered by the 1st amendment and the UK can probably show it at a later time. So long as kids wouldn't see it then fair enough.

There is a movement that is trying to introduce teaching porn to 5 years olds in many schools across the Western World (which is absolutely scandalous) so I'm not sure why showing bits on screen would be genuinely an issue especially after the watershed.
