I'm planning on buying it, hopefully tomorrow. I really want stereo speakers and waterproofness, that is what has attracted me to it over the S8, the U11 or the iPhone. It's also currently more affordable for me compared to those.

The Carphone Warehouse have had it available for pre order for the past few weeks on their website (for Vodafone, Meteor and Eir) but as of this evening it's vanished from the site. Possibly because it's due for release tomorrow. The Vodafone website has it available though, for free with a 24 month contract at €80/month.

I have 2014's Z3 for the past two years and I've loved every minute of it, except for the speakers which are heartbreakingly low volume, which is apparently due to the waterproofness. That can be quite irritating if you value good speakers on a phone. But it's a trade off.

I went in to both the Vodafone store and CW today to ask if they'd have it in stock tomorrow but they were unable to say.

Do you mind me asking what deal you're getting?
And what issues we're you having with the v20?
    I've only heard good things.

I'm itching to sell my S7 edge but I'm worried I'll miss the VR and wireless charging.

I'm thinking about the one plus 5. What made you go Sony?

I'd go for the XZ Premium based on the slowmotion feature and the excellent photo and video features primarily. Realistically I think I'd struggle to notice the advantage of a 4k screen though.

I've a Z5 for the last 20 months or so and it's pretty great; the camera shutter button is a great advantage, and I think the fingerprint reader in the power button is the best possible placement of a fingerprint reader on any device. However the Z5 gets hot really quickly and the battery is dreadful at this stage. The XZ Premium is reportedly very cool in operation and the battery life is back to the all-day standards set by the X Compact, XZ and other recent Xperia phones.

The XZ Premium is a little bit too big for my tastes so I'm anticipating an XZ1 or similar toward the end of the year that might be a little more compact and doesn't have a 4k screen. I'm aware of the XZs but it has a slightly older CPU so it doesn't really appeal.

Can anyone tell me when they have confirmation that this is in stock somewhere please? Either online or in store. (Not pre orders.)

Well I bought my xz premium the other day. It's an amazing bit of kit. I love the look of it, the screen, the camera, the battery, everything. It's proving tricky to get a nice case for it though..

Sony's official cases are always snazzy and high quality. I think there's only the one official cover for the premium and it's book-case / stand style.

I'm in two minds between the premium and the U11. Just think the premium is a touch too big

So how do you like the U11? What did you have before it?
Just sold my OP 3t to get either a U11 or XZ Premium

I'd an S7 edge up to now but it's absolutely wrecked with screen burn from navigation. The U11 is very nice, really looks the part and the speed, camera, and battery are all excellent and as advertised. Not without it's faults (wacky button placements, some screen weirdness, and dated looking sotware) but overall I'm pleased with it. If I ever have a doubt I look at the back (I got the blue) and play some audio though the headphones and all is forgiven :D

How close of a decision was it for you between the two of them? I've got the HTC on pre order with cpw and it should be with me early next week with the delay. But they did offer me a 50e voucher towards the cost of the HTC if i waited. Or i could have switched to the Sony and received the free headphones :-|

I had actually cancelled the HTC but they sent it on and I ended up keeping it. I'd been looking for unlocked XZ's but with the lack of them initially I'd done a bit more reading up on them and still heard too many bad reports about the camera and that they still hadn't sorted out the image processing. I probably would have waited to see what the OP5 was like if I hadn't kept the U11.

For me i just didn't like the way OP where so relaxed with the security updates.
Might not be big thing for most, but for me it was sitting. Plus the fact that i was constantly having Bluetooth media syncing issues

It's not just their image processing, Sony persist with tiny pixels. HTC showed way back with the M7 that bigger pixels mean better low light photos and faster shutter speeds. Everyone else has gone to bigger pixels, but Sony is dragging their heels.

This means that Sony will struggle taking photos in average to poor light, but will deliver great photos in good light. The problem is that pretty much any phone can do decent photos in good light.

Can you tell me if the messaging app and phone app on the HTC is the same at the ones used on the nexus/pixel?

This is worth a listen from about 17 minutes in. Seems the only real downers are the price (which is a lot higher in the US anyway, so irrelevant), the lack of the fingerprint scanner (again, only applicable to US) and the camera. They go into what Basil mentioned above about the way they're still doing cameras compared to most of the other manufacturers.

That helped me decide. I'm going to to purchase the U11

I think the biggest problem with this phone is the design of it, it just looks uncomfortable to hold and is quite bulky :(

My problem being a girl is a lot of the bigger phones like the Iphone plus range and S8 plus are too big for my small hands :pac: which is why the flat S6 always worked well for me.

Even if it's not even the top phone currently available, it's still good to see a decent offering from Sony. I wish LG and Moto had more of a presence here as well, so it doesn't always come down to mainly Apple and Samsung.

Not the greatest review for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. I'm inclined to agree after s tumultuous time with the Z3 over the last 18 months and Sony send the phones to some scobes in Dublin who shout down the phone!

I upgrade from Sony Xperia XZ5 to the Sony Premium XZ. A couple of things i have noticed. The SMS with WhatsApp and Default SMS not showing the message(s) count when you receive a new message. The other annoyance is the vibration is very low and you can't increase the timing on it. Is there an App someone can recommend to use?

The Xperia Z5 Premium was the first phone to feature a 4K (2160 x 3840 pixel resolution) display. However, despite the headline-grabbing spec, the 4K part of the phone could only be used with Sony’s media apps. The rest of the phone, including home screen and settings are all rendered in 1080p Full HD. The same also applies to the XZ Premium, although at least 4K video is supported through Amazon Video and YouTube.

However, what if you would like to take advantage of that 4K screen across all areas of your phone? Well a solution has existed for a long time, that involves the “adb shell” command to change the resolution and display density (DPI). Doing this means that you can run your phone natively in 4K resolution, however this does not come without perils.

While uses report that navigating around the home screen is noticeably sharper, some apps may have compatibility issues (particularly with text appearing smaller). A common complaint is that enabling native 4K will constantly crash the Phone Dialler app, although you can get around this with a third party app. There may also be some slight performance issues, however if you’re worried about battery life taking a bit hit, most people suggest that there isn’t a large impact.

YouTube user Damir Franc recently posted a simple tutorial on how to change the Xperia XZ Premium resolution, which you can check out below. You can also check out the source links below for extra information.

I upgraded to the Sony Premium but the USB connection is different to that on the XZ5, can anyone tell what the Premium usb is called? I want to pick up a charger for the car and work laptop, and one i had for XZ5 doesn't work.

    Usb Type C.

Look up Aukey quick charge 3.0 on amazon for chargers.

    It's USB-C.

You could also buy a couple of adaptors

USB C Adapter, Anker [2 in 1 Pack] USB C (male) to Micro USB Adapter (female), Converts USB Type C input to Micro USB, Uses 56K Resistor, Works with Samsung S8, MacBook, Nintendo Switch, ChromeBook Pixel, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nokia N1, OnePlus 2 and More https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01AHKYIRS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_js8BzbD1CS235

Have this and love it. But the WiFi is trash. The signal drops every 30 seconds. Shocking. It's a widespread problem, there's a thread on the Sony website about it but absolutely no solution.

Jesus, I was almost convinced, I was thinking Id go for the XV rather than the premium as even that is a big increase in size over my current iphone 5s. tbh originally I was looking to see where I could find a Sony Z5 new and noticed in this thread that the XV is waterproof/dustproof as I thought those were features that were dropped with the Z5 and M5, both of which are not available in the usual stores, I was thinking of buying an unlocked phone on amazon but the new prices are so high that it seems better to roll it into a bill I think than fork out for that or even one of the secondhand options, plus the RAM is higher on the newer phones.
Ive had sony phones in the past and only gave mine up when I was given the iphone, I hated it at first and while I got used to it, there are still features I dont like about it or that dont seem to exist at all compared to my android sony.
