Always amazed at the variations in this. I have 5. 2 sorta good, casual ones. 1 good pair. 1 pair of converse and 1 runners.

What do you do with old shoes? Use them for housework, roughwork? How long do you get out of your shoes

I have far too many pairs of shoes, I always assumed when I reached this age i would have 3 pairs at the most. Currently have 20+ and only 4 get worn at all regularly but I still refuse to throw the others out.

    Actually worn regularly or semi-regularly:

Formal (cap-toe or minimal broguing): 8-10
Casual (chukka boots / loafers / other shoes): 3
    Runners / Trainers: 5

Plus a few I need to throw out.

I always thought I don't have all that many, but thinking about it :

4 pairs of sandals in different colours
    2 pairs of flip flops
2 pairs of boots (ankle and knee high)
6 pairs of mid-heeled shoes in various colours
    2 pairs of trainers
1 pair of slippers for around the house

    So quite a lot, really.
I would expect to get 5 - 10 years out of a pair of shoes, so I haven't actually bought any at all for over a year now.

I have plenty of old battered pairs of shoes that are only used for old wear working outside etc. Of actual shoes suitable for wearing or worn semi regularly at least:

1 pair Dubarrys (my main shoe worn every day from work to nights out and replaced like for like when worn out)
    1 pair casual runners
1 pair runners for sport/running etc
1 pair good boots (for wet days)
2 pairs suit shoes one black and one brown (worn less than 10 times a year between them)
    1 pair wellingtons
    1 pair working boots

I think we need more options in this poll. 15 pairs of shoes is not much for a grown up. I'm not a super fashionable kind of person but I easily have twice that many. Between boots/winter shoes, sandals/flip flops, trainers, work shoes and going out shoes, it's really not a huge amount of shoes to have.

    1 casual shoes
    1 casual boots
    1 formal shoes
    3 work boots

    Oh jesus, millions.

2 pairs of mid to long distance runners.
    1 pair of racing flats.
    1 pair of trail runners.
    1 pair of hiking boots.
    1 pair of cycling shoes.
    1 pair of weighlifting shoes.
    5 pairs of wedges.
    2 pairs of flat sandals.
3 pairs of stiletto ankle boots.
2 pairs of chunky heeled ankle boots.
2 pairs of flat ankle boots.
1 pair of knee high leather boots.
2 pairs of over the knee boots (1 flat, 1 stiletto).
1 pair of ugg biker boots.
Countless pairs of stiletto court shoes in various colours.
Countless pairs of stiletto pumps in various colours/styles.
    Countless pairs of stiletto sandals.

Aside from the sports shoes and the boots, which I wear regularly, I only wear a handful of the others and some of the rest might only go with one dress or something :o

The poll options end way too early at 15+
I've about 40 pairs of shoes, including sandals, flip flops, boots, runners etc
And I don't even consider myself a shoe person.

No - I find them extremely uncomfortable.

7 or 8. Two of them are still on the shoe rack only because I haven't got around to throwing them away yet.

Apart from 2 pairs of work shoes, and one pair of heavy boots for stomping undesirables, the rest are kind of runner/hiking hybrids.

I had to laugh there - I honestly don't know the brand of any pair of shoes I own. :pac:

Maybe 4 or 5 pairs of work shoes
Another half a dozen pairs of casual shoes
    3 pairs of boots
    2 pairs of runners
A couple of pairs of sandals
    3 pairs of slippers
About 12 pairs of cycling shoes (you can never have enough cycling shoes....:P)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,590 ✭✭✭theteal

    2 pairs of shoes shoes

6-ish pairs of runners shoes - it's funny how these accumulate when you grow up and aren't ruining them running around playing football all day every day

    1 flip flops

    2 football boots :D

Of course not - I've got black ones, and blue ones, and silver ones, and grey ones, and green ones, and I'm currently looking for nice purple ones.
I just don't remember what it said on the box when I bought them.

I have a pair of trainers, mostly Onitsuka Tigers but some Gazelles, in every colour of the rainbow - Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Navy, Purple. I've also a white pair and another Yellow pair that I couldn't leave in the shop when I saw them.

I also own a pair of black leather shoes and a pair of brown desert boot style shoes, and a pair of tan leather boots.

I buy a new pair of trainers every Xmas and then again in June when I get my annual bonus, I really like matching my trainers to my shirt or t-shirt, so like to have a pair of every colour in decent nick.

I have about 80 pairs at last count I think. I actually do make a regular effort to get rid of old shoes clothes (charity shop) but still, I can see value in all the ones I still have.

For me they'd fall into the following categories, although I wouldnt know the exact breakdown.
    - runners for casual wear (think converse, Sugperga etc)
    - runners for the gym
    - runners for going to the park when its mucky (these are usually old gym runners that have been relegated).
    - work heals
    - work flats
    - going out heals (this is probably the least utilized area but I NEED them to complete outfits)
    - wedges
    - flat sandals - probably have about 10 pairs of these and I try to buy them in as many different styles as possible. I get blisters quite easily so I like to rotate different sandals so I can give blistered areas a break.
    -flip flops
    - boots with heals
    -flat boots
    -over the knee boots
