Yeah . A bit of the Blanch side of 220 route will be transferred to the L61 local route that will be brought in as part of the B-spine

    N4 & N6: January 2022 29 May

    G spine, W4 & W6: June 2022 August 2022

Southside Orbitals: September 2022 November 2022

How does this impact next year's roll out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 243 ✭✭Heartbreak Hank

Any idea if the south-side orbitals will just be the 4 S's i.e. S2, S4, S6, S8 or numbered routes that are somewhat non radial will also be launched e.g. 74

Im guessing the F-spine might be pushed a couple months, and maybe Inner Orbitals too if the delivery for those single decker electric buses is pushed back (again)

The southern orbital phase should see the introduction of the S2, S4, S6, S8, L25 and the 74. You have to have the latter two due to the 17 and 75 being replaced.

    They will replace the 17, 18, 61, 75 and 175.

I would hope that there'll be an extra bus on the 44 between City Centre and Dundrum to replace the 61 on that section, as the rest of the route is covered by the S6 and 74.

The 35 will link Corduff Estate with the Blanchardstown SC, which will be part of the B-Spine, and the N4 and N6 will cover much of the 220 route in Finglas and Ballymun, but again the 220 can't really go until the E and F Spine changes are implemented as well.

I'd expect it to last until 2024 as I said above.

So I was looking at the proposed map the other day, and can't help but wonder- how will the N6 terminate at Kilbarrack? After all, the map simply shows it as ending as soon as it turns right onto Howth Road, yet there doesn't seem to be space for any turn-around facilities at that road

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,209 ✭✭✭Citrus_8

Possibly, a nearby roundabout. But a bigger question where is it going to stand for a break.

I had the same question about its terminus in Finglas, judging by the map, it will terminate southbound on Main Street, however there's no real spot for it to layover

Similarly, the N4 and G spine are all meant to terminate at Spencer Dock luas stop. The network map shows them doing a loop around the block from the quays ...but does that mean the busses will share road space with the Luas at the Spencer Dock stop? That's the only road space available for busses to loop from what I can tell.

Terminus will be on North Wall Avenue adjacent to the 3 Arena I believe.

The N4 should loop via New Wapping Street, North Wall Quay, North Wall Avenue and Upper Mayor Street to New Wapping Street again.

I would imagine either the northbound stop 1513 on the bottom part of the Main Street or the old 40 terminus at stop 4592 on Jamestown Road would be the likely locations?

Both can be accessed by doing a loop.

    It’s a puzzle all right.

Either it’ll stay at the entrance road to Howth Junction or maybe do a loop via Kilbarrack Road, Howth Road, Greendale Road and Thornville Road, with a terminus near the church or shops on Greendale Road?

The only other option is to continue to Raheny and lay over at a stop near the village.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

I'd imagine they'd have to construct somewhere around that area that's suitable for buses to layover it's quite tight using a housing estate to terminate. Raheny village might be a better option although that too is quite tight to turnaround a bus unless you removed some of the on street parking.

The other issue I see is where do driver handovers and breaks take place. GAIs airport outbase is probably the nearest place suitable.

So when buses operating the N6 reach Finglas or Kilbarrack, will they just go back to Clonshaugh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

If the driver is finishing his/her shift or going on break yes if not the bus will turn around and go the opposite direction like what currently happens in any bus garage the world over.

Would it be an option to continue down James Larkin Road and turn at the roundabout on the Causeway Road?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,209 ✭✭✭Citrus_8

Which roundabout are you talking? On the Watermill Road?

Not sure it's a good idea for such location. Buses could get stuck in traffic there. Also, empty kilometres.

I think, turning around a green area at Thornville Drive would be an easier option.

There is around 1 month till they publish the brochures for the N4/N6. Only time will tell how they’ll manage the termini of the N6…

Btw, do yall know under which phase the N8 falls into? I was assuming it would be under the outer Northern Orbitals with the N4 and N6, and yet I haven’t heard anything about that route

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 26,415 Mod ✭✭✭✭Peregrine

Definitely not with Northern Orbitals N4 & N6. The N8 route was only added to the plan around mid-2020 well after the second consultation. It'll probably be at the end in 2024.

There’s a small roundabout on greendale road / foxfield just off the Howth road turn from the James Larkin road that I assume would be most likely. There is not necessarily any standing points but it could potentially take a few different routes to start at a terminus in and around the old Mint shops (hamburger bar / centra etc). Also, there are a couple of routes where buses currently stand practically outside peoples houses (eg. the 11 in hillcrest), so it’s not an insurmountable problem

It always puzzled me why the 17a stopped at Naomh Barrog and left the stretch to the coast road unserved. The station is served as such from the Kilbarrack road as it is (albeit a walk, but the current first stop is a decent walk to the platform as it is). It would create a nice little link with the old 31/32 and new H routes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 965 ✭✭✭d51984

I would of thought extending it to The current H1 terminus in Baldoyle or even Red arches would create new links with places like Beaumont hosp etc for the people in that area.

    Its a disgrace Joe!

Clongriffin will be getting the L80 to dcu through Beaumont in time, and I believe the 29a/H1 is to continue up the red arches road in time when the roads are good enough to bring a highish frequency bus up to the station that way.

    155 to harristown

    15 to broadstone

exodus of maintenance staff, 50+in the last 2 month to intel, much better pay, this is causing problems as you can imagine

training center struggling to get new drivers, about half are coming from GA

the well is running dry of people who want to drive a bus, it going to get worse

all new hires for DB are told the job they are going to do is the night shift, 2100-0600, this will shrink the number of applicants further

training center had hoped to get 450 new drivers this year

250 expected to retire or quit

GA and DB both struggling to get staff and it is getting worse, like many here, a lot drivers live in so called dublin commuter towns, the price of fuel is going up and the cost of getting to and from work is for some i€100-150 per week, this is unsustainable, the slow trickle of drivers leaving is only going to increase

Pension is yet again held up, so no movement on pay rise until that's sorted

not hyperbole when i say palatable anger over pension, we are being dicked around, drivers who are retiring while pension not settled are losing money, no pay rise until pension sorted, already approved by drivers so what's the hold up??? , a few more cost of living rises and we could see fireworks.

Fare evasion through the roof, many just walk on dont even attempt to pay/scan leap card, many scan and have no credit, say will top up but just walk off.

Ukrainians travel for free, every one with a east european accent is now claiming to be Ukrainian, so have had irish say iv paid plenty of tax unlike them so im traveling for free as well, no RPT so.....
