We'll see price and spec in due course i suppose. Mates were telling me that it's a regular thing what happened. Software update messses up VF smart ultra 6, can't use sd card so they trick you into buying larger gb new phone

The V8 replaces the Smart Premium 7 iirc.

There will also be 2 other phones to replace the Ultra and Turbo/Prime

its looking like the new smart 8 phones will be disappointing like the smart 7 phones, unless the pricing of the V8 and some of its unknown details surprises us

the vodafone smart n8 is available for £85 http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobilePhones/phones/details/phoneDetail.jsp?bundleSkuItemId=sku49318809

There's going to be 3 phones released for Summer 2017, seemingly

They'll all be "8"s - with the V8 occupying the same market space as the current Smart Premium 7, the premium is the "top" level, with the Ultra 7 being the mid-tier - there is also an entry-level one, but I can't remember the lettering - the branding like Ultra and Prime is being discontinued.

Looks like it will be released in the next week or two judging by the fact it's already on the Portuguese Vodafone website looks like a very good phone, good spec and very nice design might be worth a look when it arrives here. https://loja.vodafone.pt/telemoveis/vodafone/smart-v8-cinza?src=CV&intcmpcode=hp1

The phone linked there is the V8, which is the "premium" or "prime" offering, replacing the Smart Platinum 7

The Ultra 7 was the mid-tier, which will have an 8 equivalent, but I can't remember the letter at the moment.

They should be launched early July alright.

Dont think so ... I'd imagine this is the mid tier phone 230 euro is a fairly mid tier pricing , they're probably changing the line ups naming around a bit ,don't think there will be an ultra 8

they are getting rid of all "ultra" "platinum" terms

    E, N, V

    entry-, mid-, top-level

the V8 has a brushed metal back, it's the top-end phone of the new range

Looks like it will be in Irish Stores on the 4th July based on a Fantastic Friday notification I got there now.

Looks spot on as far as spec. 3GB of RAM, 32GB ROM and micro sd slot. Coupled with Android 7.1 and the usual screen spec it looks like a pretty good option. Waiting to take the plunge on a replacement for my Smart Ultra 6 after 2 years.

Nice alternative to the Nokia 6 with same spec except the V8's slightly better 435 chipset. Nokia 6 is gonna be at the €300 mark, If this is €70 quid cheaper at €230 I'd buy it instead of the Nokia. Hope this may end up being a winner and a proper successor to the ultra 6 since the ultra 7 was total horse shoite.

It will land in our hands at close to 300 I bet. Argos had the Nokia 5 listed at €259 but have since taken it back down again.

Have it on very good Authority that the RRP Pay as you Go will be €249.99 for the V8 and €149.99 for the N8

    E8 is not listed

Free on all Billpay tariffs with a new contract.

That's seriously pricey. The V8 is 160stg in the UK which is roughly 185€.

Worth a shot I suppose. There wont be any issue unlocking. Vodafone could require a UK based credit card to purchase however, which could be the main issue.

Unlock codes are available on eBay for this now. I wouldn't pay €249 for this phone though.

I heard €249 odd, compared to €185 odd when you do the sterling conversation if you buy it from the UK.

I will be trying to buy from UK website so. Get delivery through parcelmotel. Hopefully they accept Irish visa debit card. Could you buy in Newry for same price. Might take a visit there in few weeks n get one if can save over 60euro on it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,691 ✭✭✭s3rtvdbwfj81ch

be sure you can get it unlocked, Irish Voda sims won't work in UK Voda phones.

I went to newry two years back to buy a phone from a well known operator and they refused to sell me a PAYG handset without a UK address, lad refused blank, his mate working with him agreed with him. They shouldn't have done that imo and it was a Sunday so no manager was there for me to argue with. Luckily I didn't specifically go up there for a phone and was up there for other reasons anyway. I'd confirm by phone first that they will sell you one before going up.

Anyone know if this came into any stores today. Rang the vodafone sales team and guy hadn't a clue about this phone.

Was in a Vodaphone shop in the Pavillions last night, they hadn't a breeze what I was on about when I asked.

Was in the shop in Tralee today and they said they were going to release the new Vodafone phones for this week but there were delays. These phones are expected to be released by the end of this month but no prices were set yet.

Vodafone have their own skin on android now so it won't be stock like the older handsets.

Luckily you can unlock this immediately on eBay should you go ahead with it. If its reasonably inline with the UK pricing I might go for one myself just so I can unlock it and use on meteor.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,691 ✭✭✭s3rtvdbwfj81ch

249.99 is the RRP for PAYG for the Irish Market.

Maybe the delay was because they want to re-jig the pricing, and maybe the price will end up being lower, but I can't see it dropping to under 220 - which is still above the UK price.

I can't see them dropping at all in fact, but if they do it won't be to knock any more than 30 off the RRP

If it's going to be that expensive people will just buy a brand name.

true enough, but it's free on all Billpay new sign ups or re-contracts/upgrades. Most branded phones of the same spec are not.

Maybe they want people who aren't going to unlock and go to another carrier, which is fair enough really, why subsidise a phone for another network.

The new Vodafone phones probably will be as expensive as you'd think.
    However; if you switch to Vodafone, they'll subsidise the V8 €50, N8 €40, and E8 €20.

Found in Vodafones PAYG T&C's under 'Vodafone Smart 8 Devices Pay as you go switching offer'

I think you get the same deal if you already are a VF customer and within 6 months of finishing your contract.
All, of course, mean you need to sign up for a further 24 months.

Not 100% sure about that shanemkelly, as it was posted in the Pay as you go Terms & Conditions. However; the smart 8 devices were supposed to be released on the 4th of July, so who am I to say they wont change their minds about this again too 😅
