    S.T.A.G.S

Shooting Target And Game Sports .

This is an advanced Hunters competition course of fire that will be held on the MNSCI range on Sunday the 28th May.

The idea behind this type of competition is to replicate exactly the type of shooting that takes place in the field when hunting game and vermin ,i.e. Using any possible natural aid available to you when obstacles are in the way for you to shoot at your quarry. Its rare for a hunter to be able to shoot their quarry like a target shooter shooting paper targets on a range.

In this competition there will be ten (10) details with ten (10) different scenarios to shoot in. Natural aids and obstacles will include trees, bushes, rushes, high grass, drains, wooden gates, ranch railings, round bales, logs, etc.

Targets will be life size deer, foxes, steel plates, etc. (before the cranks start ringing me again ,the deer and fox targets are paper targets not real life animals !!!! ) There will also be running deer and McQueen's style targets. Enough to challenge everyone.

The distances will be unknown, with the max distance of 300 metres and minimum distance of 40 metres.

This shoot should prove to be realistic to hunting in the field.

This is an open competition, (non members please bring copy of insurance and firearms permit )
    • Any Rifle
    • Any sights
    • Any calibre
    • Magazine fed rifles only
    • 20 rounds needed
    • Bipods can be used in certain details or an artificial rest.
    • Muzzle brakes allowed
    • Moderators allowed
    • Stalking Sticks are allowed in certain details.
Bring your own wet gear and Mat if you need one. Remember we are replicating what you normally bring and carry in the field. (no need for f Class front rests ,100lb tripods or anything else that might need planning permission !! :D)

Entries must be text in advanced to JP on 086 8232641.

Registration, on the day, at the main office at 10 am with the Competition to commence at 11 am

More details will follow. Follow us on Facebook to keep up to date.

Hope to see you there .

The weather for tomorrow is to be good. Overcast, but no rain and relatively calm. So should bee good shooting conditions.

    S.T.A.G.S. competition results.

I think most would agree that todays competition was the most challenging and enjoyable.

Weather conditions were perfect with just a little wind blowing across the range.

The match started off with first shots fired at 10.30 am and last shot fired at 12.30pm.Inside these two hours saw some really outstanding shooting in particular to R.English who only dropped one shot from scoring a perfect score

    Positions and distances were,
    • 300 yards prone rested with 3 shots at the 10",8"and 6" square plates inside one minute.
    • 300 yards resting off a round bale with two shots ,one at the pig and one at the turkey.Inside one minute.
    • 200 yards in the standing position resting off the timber fence with 3 shots at the 10",8" and 6" steel plates inside one minute while standing inside a bunch of claypigeon.Break one or more will cost you a point off your score.
    • 200 yards kneeling resting off a rope fence with one shot at the pig and one at the turkey inside one minute with same scenario with claypigeons (tricky).
    • 200 yards resting on a mound with 5 shots at the KYL inside one minute.6",5",4",3"and 2" square steel plates.
    • 100 yards prone rested with 5 shots at 5 claypigeons inside 1 minute. 25 shooters lay on the line with 125 claypigeons sitting on the backstop with the shooters number marked on the claypigeon , but the clays were all mixed up leaving the shooter to having to find their clays and shoot them all inside 1 minute plus loading.
That particular event was impressive to watch (bit like a mad minute )

Only 24 clays survived being shattered. The unbroken clays were retrieved to the shooters. One or two were shattered by a boot .

As usual the scores were hard earned and the Top 4 shooters today were as follows
    • 1st R.English
    • 2nd R.Gibbons
    • 3rd D.Gibbons
    • 4th M. Fay
Well done all and many thanks to everyone for competing today,it was a great turnout.

Full report and pictures available from the MNSCI Fb page.
