    Raspberry Pi 3 Model B

Shipping to Ireland is free using DHL express Worldwide or Fedex.

I chose to use Fedex International Priority as DHL may decide that you need to pay tax and then their handling, which could be an extra $5.20 + €15 handling :(
They have stung me on similar items before, so i avoid them when possible.

To get this price you must use the code RASPI30 at checkout

€22.32 at checkout if you choose Euro

A Pi 3 with a retro controller and retropie installed makes a fantastic gift. I've given them to 4 people for christmas/birthdays recently and they all love them. Looking at about €35 for everything (pi3, microSD, controller, USB stick to store games, case for the pi 3) and a few hours of your time to set it up.

Just a suggestion for others like me who buy stuff from this forum they have no need for :pac:

noob question but how its powered ? know most of them require 5v ,which imagine could be delivered via simple usb or does it require getting power adapter separately.

good deal, hate the idea thou that they always seem to go way cheaper in US compared to EU.

The USB 3.0 port on my TV was powering my pi fine but when I started connecting other USB devices and playing games it wasn't enough. I bought one of these to make turning it on/off easy (power supply on wall behind entertainment unit) and power it from a plug now.

can't see any issues, esentially its like kodi box setup, once you do config to say on startup to launch kodi id imagine there wouldnt be any issues using remote, since its essentially same as keyboard or controller, granted some keys might need to be manually binded to functions they would perform.

Yes i can use the power on the TV anyway, with remote sending CEC signal using the HDMI port to power off Pi properly.
I was just wondering if anyone had tried any of them and if they were programmable etc.

I guess i was thinking of something like this, that was also programmable.

Thanks for sharing. Has FedEx already delivered this to you & were you charged any VAT & handling fees?

On a related question, I am considering buying an orange PI board from China that is less than $20, however I'm not sure if that would attract VAT. Would you know what are the customs & VAT rules around these boards?

    Thanks!

You're a few cent over the €22 limit, however I believe they don't collect VAT liability amounting to less than €6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,211 ✭✭✭✭Suckit

I have only ordered it today, so not got it yet.
As mentioned above, i cannot imagine it would get charged, but i have been charged by DHL incorrectly on more than one occasion, so now i just avoid using them to avoid any surprises.
Orange Pi may take 2 months to get here, and if getting the Orange Pi PC version, make sure you get Heatsinks. (probably best to get them anyway)

Am gutted too as I'm currently in the process of making this..

$6 Ikea Lack Table + Raspberry Pi + Cheap Second Hand Monitor + Arcade Pack = Arcade Table

    PIK3ATable01-500x500.jpg

Could easily be done for less than 100 quid.

And am currently attempting to source a Pi3 using CEX as I've a few spare vouchers. But this would have been far better value! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,211 ✭✭✭✭Suckit

Yes it is over unfortunately (i was going to order a 2nd one). They are still doing free overnight shipping though, Message on homepage - https://www.arrow.com/

    ^^^
@Basq, i made that table last year - great fun :D.
I am looking at making another one, two player and much lighter. With (hopefully) retractable joysticks (I want them to sink down, instead of slide in like a drawer).
I also want to build this Magic Mirror (instructions at bottom of the page) and i am really looking forward to it. I have the latest copy of Magpi also with the personal assistant, but i think i will leave that for another time.
Fun times with Pi :) but i am now also annoyed i did not buy a 2nd one from this promotion :( I was not 100% sure we would get it with free shipping etc. and was afraid i may get hit with hidden charges. Raarrghh.. I should have just gone for it. Not going to get hit.

The link to the instructions are in the article which is linked in the Basq's post, but you need to be a member to view them

Many different versions available, some are different and some have instructions but most are just slightly modified versions of the one in Basqs link.

UPS just tried to deliver it to me, and told me i had to pay €44.64 customs charges.
    I refused it.
It is definitely a mistake. He gave me a copy of the delivery invoice from UPS.
He is still outside rearranging items in van, i am trying to figure out where the charges come from.
It seems that the item was valued at €34.99 (which is incorrect, i paid €22.xx)

I had this issue before.. the item is valued at €34.99 but you got it for €22.xx with a discount code. But the declared value of the item is still €34.99.

I got in contact with UPS, and he gave me his email address to forward him my proof of purchase.
He said he will make ammendments to it and see what the issue is and ring me back within the hour.

My total was USD$24.49 and i paid €22.82 (I had not realised it was possible to pay in Euro before i purchased it).

It happened to me before with DHL, and they refused to budge on it, and charged me €50+ or my item would be destroyed. They refused to acknowledge that there was a mistake.
It is cheaper to have it destroyed and buy a new one.
Hopefully UPS are not as bad.

That sucks, when did your item ship?

I ordered one and got a shipping notification just after midnight this morning. I certainly won't be paying €44 charges on it, you could buy a brand new one from the UK for less.

My understanding is that the value is what you paid. The limit for imports is €22 - you are over by 32c. However revenue do not collect VAT liability under €6 which means in reality there should be nothing due on this item (€22.32 x .023 = €5.10)

So nothing should be due at all on these and if they try to claim it is fraud because they will be likely be pocketing it themselves rather than giving to revenue. I would not pay and I would report the shipping company for attempted fraud.

Yes, he seemed reasonable enough, so  hopefully will come back in my favour.

I am reading the invoice at the minute, and it does not add up unless i am missing something.
    USD$34.99
By my calculations should be 21% = USD$7.35 + UPS handling charges of €15.00
But they wanted to charge me  €44.64
I will upload a picture of the invoice, maybe someone else can make sense of it.

Are you sure it is for this item? You said you chose Fedex shipping but you're talking about a UPS delivery?

I ordered mine a few hours after the deal was posted and it has not left US yet, it is due on Monday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,738 ✭✭✭scamalert

now this has me worried i picked fedex standard delivery, got email yesterday it has been shipped, does fedex deliver in ire or is it passed to UPS ?paid via pp in USD which got me invoice for 24.xx$

Since it would be ridiculous to pay extra 20 on top.

As i recall didnt see UPS mentioned for shipping think it was dhl, fedex and USPS<american post.

Suckit if it doesnt work out lodge claim with paypal, not sure they can destroy it given there should be return address on it,since imagine if its not accepted it should be sent back, and if you provide non delivery on tracking paypal should stick with customer side on this if it goes that route.

Yes, it is definitely for them. Maybe UPS handle them in Ireland?
Here is the invoice, sorry for the crappy camera, my lense bust and i am waiting on a replacement  from China :/ and trying to decide on new phone.
You will need to zoom in to see it

Edit - @scamalert, it is an extra €44.64 on top  not an extra €20

well in 10 years ive only seen fedex planes parked at dublin airport and never seen a van with fedex sign on it,dont live in Dublin, but always only run into DHL or UPS never seen fedex pull in

Just to be clear which one did you pick for delivery was if fedex or another one since the list was like 8-10 options for shipping choice, also opted for standard delivery and not priority myself .

heres mine invoice,so hard to tell since price is stated 30$+ but then payment is different.

I picked Fedex International Priority (It is the default selection when buying something).

The free overnight shipping is still being offered on their site, and it specifically says International, so i doubt it is a mistake.

I can't make heads nor tails of that. The €3.45 appears to be VAT for the clearance fee of €15. The €26.19, I have no idea where it is coming from.

There should be nothing due on it as revenue don't collect vat liabilities under €6. (see the online buying & actions section of boards.ie)

I chose FEDEX International Priority and I can track the item on Fedex website (mine is still in MEMPHIS)

The other thing I would note is that my confirmation shipment email says
    Carrier:
Shipment Method: Delivered Duty Paid FOB1
DDP means the seller is responsible for everything, duty, delivery, clearance fees.
