Kill Your Babies - PS1 Edition 1.0

Because seantheman introduced us to the first one, it's only fair to give him a break and take the reigns for one. These are not my top PS1 games, i used a Google search, so again all subjective, so apologies if your favourite game, or a game you think should be on the list, isn't on the list. So, a quick recap of the rules:

Rule #1: When you make a kill, give your reason why you are killing. Just taking it out isn't all that inspiring. Whether you truly dislike it, you strike out of revenge, you feel that there are other important titles that should have made it, or you have legitimate critiques, explaining your kill is necessary to validate its death. Yes, even to those of you who kill because they're good (Because that makes sense =-D)

Rule #2: Please keep the updated list for the benefit of other players. Cross through your kill to identify what's been chosen.

Rule #3: You may kill another game after only four other people have made a kill OR if 12 hours have passed from the last overall kill (not necessarily your own). This should be plenty of time for others to get involved.

Rule #4: If you fail to give a reason, make a 2nd kill without allowing the time to pass/proper amount of players a turn, or if there is an unforeseen issue up for potential review, your kill may not be recognized. This rule is subjective to the situation and hopefully will not be implemented.

Rule #5: We will have a straw poll for the final two. Please vote for the one you want to win, not lose.

Cheers PotentialMonke, yeah, this list looks like a few people will kill off games I love pretty early.

But...to be kind....I'm gonna kill ISS Pro Evo.
I was always a Fifa Man. Pretty easy and hopefully non-contentious kill to start with :P

I actually like 90% of the games on this list. Never heard of Klonoa though.

And I know some of the games are pretty popular among boardsies from threads back in the day, Soul Reaver, Vagrant Story etc

Taking out Wipeout because even though it had some fantastic sequels and amazing packaging from Designers Republic, the original game itself was a bit of a turd sandwich. Don't ever get nostalgic about wanting to play it again - it is the ultimate letdown.

Removing Silent Hill which is on the list twice. But im going to kill Parappa the Rapper. Was a hard choice on which to kill as i have fond memories of all these PS1 games that i played, until i saw Parappa. I hated the art style, i hated the songs and i hated the gameplay. I can't say a single good thing about it.

I know exactly which game is your favourite Potential-Monke and i was tempted to kill it, but i just cant. Too many fond memories from the PS1 era that game included. It might be nostalgia or that at the time i didn't look at games with such a critical eye as i do today but this is a really tough list of games to kill. Outside of killing games i didn't play ofcourse...

I'm going to kill Spyro. Just never caught on with me, found it boring, repetitive and didn't think it was half as iconic as those who make it out to be some form of mascot for PS1.

Disgraceful behaviour knocking out Driver at this early stage imo. I've nothing but fond memories of it, but sure what can you do.

I'm putting a bullet in Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. It annoyed the hell out of me, couldn't find the fun in it. Even the sound effects were irritating.

Two of my most fondly remembered PS1 games gone in two shots. You people have no souls!

G-Police was the first PS1 game I ever got. I was 11 years old. One day when I was at school my then 2 year old brother came in and trashed my room. In the process, he shattered one of the G-Police disks into pieces somehow. I was a broken child.

I posted the shattered disk to SCEE with a letter explaining what had happened. They posted me a brand new copy of the game. I played it for a million hours.

Pour one out for the fallen.

Was just about to kill Vagrant Story, tried playing it recently and it's a nightmare to play today. So I'll kill Twisted Metal 3 instead, wasn't as good as the second game ( which didn't make the list somehow)

Took out Klonoa, which from the remaining games was simply my least favourite of the lot. Not to say it's a bad game, it's a classic platformer, I just don't hold the memories for it as I would for the rest.

There's a few others I could take out but Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back is the easy pick for me. Try as I did, I never thought that the Crash games were anything other than mediocre. The gameplay was simplistic – run into the screen or away from the screen and jump the chasms. Even at the time I thought they were well behind their contemporaries like Spyro and even Jersey Devil. It was just so constrained compared to true 3D games where you could go explore.

I get the nostalgic buzz over the rerelease of the games on the current consoles but the gameplay was just so dull and basic. They did look good though and there were some decent set-pieces – much like what Naughty Dog would go on to do in Uncharted, but like Uncharted, I always felt the gameplay was lacking.

Taking out Crash Team Racing. Sorry Millenials but you need to take off the rose tinted glasses. CTR was never that great and even at the time reviews were decent but not spectacular. It's good but even the kind of lame Mario Kart 64 was better and it had nothing on Speed Freaks which CTR killed.

I would *KILL* for a remastered Legacy of Kain series, even the iffy Blood Omen sequel. I have them all on PC, but the controls are really bad.

Was going to go for Tomb Raider 2 as it's not a patch on the first game but then I saw Syphon Filter. Some people would say it's a was a good game for it's time. I'd say it was always a simplistic and kind of **** shooter.

It's basically Megaman Legends but bad.

Just let it go. In a world where Valkyrie Profile, Suikoden 2, FF9 etc. exist it has to be put down

Metal Gear Solid. A lot of great gameplay ideas, but sometimes the solution to a problem was spelled out a little too clearly. Instead of "Quick, Snake, hide in a box!", the message would say something like "Quick, Snake, press the square button!". Way to break the fourth wall! Also, way too short a game.

Much preferred Tenchu Stealth Assassins, which, ironically, has disappeared from view at the top of the list. What a great game, the amazing music, calls from the samurai to "Show yourself!", and that really quite alarming arterial blood spray sound effect when you slashed some unfortunate with your ninja sword.
