Overpaid Jobs

There's so many overpaid jobs in this state. The obvious one's like politicians and that but who else do you think is in an overpaid job?

Some people who sit at desks in offices on 50+ thousand a year. Crazy. What occupation deserves to get paid over 100k? None in my opinion.

What jobs do you think are overpaid? Are you in an overpaid job? I personally think my job is overpaid by a few thousand.

Is that why you've spent $20m on trips to your own resort? Seems like a solid business plan.

Ah in fairness, there's different types of researchers.

There are the ones trying to cure cancer and then there are the ones ringing your house phone unsolicited to find out how many people in the nation watched Fairly Shitty last week

The people who work in government departments do **** all work. I used to work/know people who work in there.

As for teachers, well they get their four months of holidays and pretty much can't get fired. For a pay scale that starts around 30k, that's a damn good deal imo.

Well I didn't spend anything. Wasn't my money to begin with :D . Take it up with the little people who actually pay tax that goes towards these things.

There's some people who sit on their holes on the computer all day who get their pay raised to 70k plus over time and then there's some who break their backs doing manual labour for years and are on pittance. Is that fair?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 864 ✭✭✭neverever1

I think the dole works out at around 9,000. It's not a lot really is it? Could you live on it?

Why does it have to be fair.

For as long as I remember the message has been if you don't get an education then you'll end up in a minimum wage job.
Those that work hard and get an education get better jobs and in general earn more money,
It may not be fair but it's a really simple life lesson.

Sorry, I was being tongue in cheek, because usually when I see a thread like that, I find that I hear or read about the exact same topic on radio or Journal and such a few days later.

The researchers you're talking about deserve every bit of funding they can get.

Is it? How many years and exams are needed in order to be a fully qualified surgeon?
Are you talking gross? If yes then it isn't massive when the state takes near on half.
    Live in dublin?
    Drive into dublin?
    Have kids?
90k is not a massive amount of money if we are talking doctors and surgeons.

Are you having a laugh? Im a young teacher. I cant afford a morgage yet, so i have to work another job alongside teaching to make ends meet. Ive 5 years in college spent to get where i am today. Hundreds comes out out my pocket over the years for materials i use in my profession. I love my job though, love teaching my students so it is worth it. But don't assume something you clearly know nothing about.

If you feel so strongly about it then tell your employer you want to forfeit a few k. I'd say they'd be happy to agree.
Can't do that? Hand it over to some charity for sick children.

Ok take a voluntary 10k pay cut and then you'll be underpaid in relation to your peers. Better?

Do some people on 20k not live in Dublin? Drive in Dublin? Maybe they don't have kids either?

Doesn't matter. Gross pay is the salary.

Why would I? I've got a child to feed, cars to pay for, mortgage payments.
Why would I decide to forfeit a part of salary?

Doctors and surgeons are people like the rest of us, they shouldn't need some pumped up salary. Not to mention the deferential attitude people have to them. It's only a job, surely they can eat normal people food?

I can only guess but the work is harder to train as a surgeon versus a lad doing a safe pass course to work as a labourer.
