Silma M80 Barrel Selector

    Hi guys.

I just bought a Silma M80 and tried shooting it this afternoon. It is a second hand gun but I was told it had never fired a cartridge and it does look like it hasn't.

What I've found is that once I've fired the first shot, the gun doesn't automatically switch to the second barrel, I have to swap over the selector. From reading the manual this doesn't seem right. Am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Few things to look at:
    1. Is the gun a selective single trigger?
    2. When you fire the first barrel do you fully release the trigger before pulling the trigger again?
    3. Does the trigger feel heavy when trying to fire the second barrel?
    4. Does the second barrel fire at all? IOW if you pull the trigger a few times will it eventually fire?
    5. What load cartridges are you using? Do heavy loads fire it?
    6. Have you tried unloading the gun, closing it, firing on an empty chamber, then tapping the buttstock off the ground to mimic recoil then try the second barrel?

What loads are you firing through it ? This sort of thing happened a lot years ago when lighter 1oz loads became popular, they had not enough recoil to reset the mechanism for the second shot.

Cheers for the response guys. Got it sorted now.

The problem was that I was pulling the trigger with snap caps in the barrels which resulted in no recoil, a tap on the ground worked.

Sorry for wasting your time with such a silly question. It's my first shotgun and wanted to see how it felt before taking it out shooting tomorrow.
