I wonder what the motivation is, I have a good idea. But don't want to be torn apart here for speculating.

Could it be a disgruntled employee on the Champs Elysees

Could well be. Unlikely though seeing as the victims are policemen, and they are usually targeted during terrorist attacks for some reason.

Also good work to the police they seem to have responded very well to the incident and were able to evacuate huge amounts of people from that big area very efficiently

Can you blame the French if they do vote for her? The authorities aren't able to keep a lid on these attacks and murders of innocent people.

I was in Rome last week and the place was teeming with police, also with soldiers with machine guns.
It did pass through my mind the dangers these people are at as they try and protect the public.
So sad to see more senseless violence in Paris.

I think the effect that these terrorist attacks have on votes for right wing parties is highly exaggerated

Being cynical you would see Russia involved here perhaps through syria

They would love to see le pen in power . And the destruction of the EU.

Russia loves to play the long game between internet attacks and behind the scenes operations.

People think the states are big players .

Want EU to fall apart, act now. Special offer.

    Really?

How many women has Le Pen caused to be raped and murdered compared to Angela Merkel?

How many terrorist attacks has Marine Le Pen covered up, compared to Angela Merkel?

How many people has Marine Le Pen had run over by trucks, or attacked with an axe in Duseldorf and on a train, compared to Angela Merkel?

How much additional pressure has Marine Le Pen heaped on the Irish welfare, housing, healthcare and child services budgets, compared to Angela Merkel?

FYI, by years end 2016 it stood at 24 dead and 128 injured. That excludes a handful of suspected incidents early this year.

What is Marine Le Pen's corresponding figure, do tell.

So far the violent aspects of Merkel's madness have been largely contained to victms within her own borders. Ireland has only had to pick up the tab for the preferential treatment of the guests Merkel decided she didn't have enough room for after all, in terms of preferential access to housing, healthcare and child services.

Time will tell about the rest.

Seems we can't deal with terrorism in the way Europe has been dealing with it. Perhaps it's time to take a leaf out of Trump's book

Plenty of reports ISIS have been flooding into Europe the last few weeks on the run from having their arses handed to them in Syria and Iraq. All this was flagged up from various security and yet Europe stands still stunned like a dear in the headlights.

    Does this surprise you?

Look at how mainland Europe reacted back in 1992 at the outbreak of the Bosnian war. Rabbit in the headlights. Let's talk and talk and talk and talk. And wring our hands.

It was up to the Americans and British to clean up that mess.

The financial and political benefits could be astronomical.

Maybe Putin didn't have anything to do with it, but he is doing one of those Russian knee dances right now, guaranteed.

No, how could they possibly get through those REALLY secure security checks... I mean they check dental records... the system just can't be cheated.. impossible..

BS. I'm sick of it, lets call Islam what it really is; a religion made up of a portion of peaceful, law abiding citizens but contaminated by a mass of extremists with views that can never and will never be compatible with modern democracies...

It's only the blind that can't see Russia has been spending hundreds of millions in its quest to spread fear and cyncism across the world via the internet.

The state of Emergency in France is the new normal, the low level of painful attacks now will be remembered fondly as better times in years to come.

Walked down the Champs Elysees just a few hours ago. Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere but when we got off the metro at the Arc De Triomphe earlier, one road was closed off with soldiers redirecting traffic. There was a huge bang, and 10 minutes later the road was open again. We figured it was a controlled explosion that might be fairly common.

What does religion have to do with an armed robbery?

What armed robbery? This won't be marked down as crime, robbery, drug related, mental illness, whatever the standard is across the border. We aren't in Germany, the French authorities tried covering up the very first lone wolf attacks back in 2014 and haven't tried since. Unlike Germany they have a population and an investigative media that hold them to account.

Shouldn't you be throwing stones at synagogues or something?
