The problem is the iris scanner does not work reliably outdoors in bright light and even Samsung warns about this. Hopefully your phone won't start lagging like my s8 plus.

Sammy lag is like the OnePlus jelly effect. Some people will never notice it, for other people it will drive them crazy.

Don't agree entirely. The one plus lag is all about what your eyes/brain perceive. The lag on the S8 i am talking about is actually measurable in real time and is not really to do with frame drops when scrolling through home screens, app screens or web pages (which I think it what most people refer to as the samsung touchwiz lag). The lag I am referring to is more to do with transition delays inside and between apps. Example, when sharing a link on youtube for example I have seen delays of up to 3 or 4 seconds before an app opens. I have also seen the same issue in the google photos app though not as bad where swiping across will cause the screen to judder and then sharing a photo will result in a delay before the app opens. The camera app can take an age to open sometimes. Or the dialer can take a few seconds to disconnect. Most annoying is this is random.

Last ****ing time I bother with parcel motel. Still waiting on these covers told me this morning was out on order. Then gave me estimate time 7pm.

After 8 now. 11 ****ing euro delivery as well.

Can't remember if I posted in here or not. Mine arrived on Saturday. How come your delivery is so expensive? I paid £8 for next day delivery which was refunded.

The Amazon delivery was delayed so it wasn't out for delivery with parcel motel till today.

I had to pay the standard fee and extra to have it delivered to my place. Never again.

Ok so delivery finally comes tried both cases first major issue is both covers push the screen protecter s up slightly which creates bubbles and must be raising the glass protector to.

    Don't use screen protectors. Fixed.

    Not risky without one?

The one I have on is actually really good as well for once!

Never came across any screen protector ever (at least glass) which was worth a damn on curved glass. Full screen ones only have adhesive along edges and ruin touch or pop off, others don't cover enough of screen and lift and let dust under, others just mess with the clarity.

Is the back of the U11 more at risk of scratches then the front. I assume the back is gorilla glass 5 ?

Also Sapphire blue or Solar Red ? will use a spigen liquid crystal clear case if I decide on getting the U11.

Mine scratched first day which I found surprising so I reluctantly put one on. You need one that covers only the bare screen and not the curved bezels.

Did you find one yourself that fit fine?

I did, but after trying a glass one that lifted on the edges I went with a plastic one.

I used plastic on all my phones before this and found they worked fine.

    Which one did u use?

I got the same brand in a gel case too which for pretty nicely and has separate cutouts for the flash and camera which I preferred, though it has loosened over time which I never found with the Spigen on my old phone.

The blue is so sexy and the phone feels great with no case but I had the fear. Too nice a back to put a dbrand on too.

Ya there's no way I'm using it without a case! Ha.

The two spigen cases seem like great cases so be worth changing screen protecter.

Going to post in here as I feel if I post in the S8 thread people are going to be biased after paying so much for a phone.

Moving away from iPhone 6 during the week, have narrowed it down to 3 contenders:
    Samsung S7 Edge - €250
HTC U11 - €300 (comes with RE camera also)
    Samsung S8 - €400

What are peoples suggestions? Have never used HTC or Samsung so have no idea what to expect, done quite a bit of research into the phones and finding it hard to decide. Samsung definitely looks like a nicer phone but I don't care too much about the appearance, I'd be more concerned with how well it works and how practical it is to use.

HTC seems to have a better camera and sound from the headphones (although lack of jack is annoying), the fingerprint scanner on the S8 is putting me off and the fact that it doesn't have a home button, but maybe these are trivial things that I will get used to. Which phone has a nicer interface to use? Presuming same apps are available on both as they are both Android but generally does Samsung or HTC have better features? Girlfriend has a Samsung S6 and it seems to have some cool features that I don't have on my iPhone 6.

Any advice would be appreciated! Struggling to think of a time I have been so indecisive.

Cheers for that post, exactly what information I was looking for. I found the more I read reviews online and watched comparisons on youtube the harder it was making my decision. Went for the S8 in the end!

Question for Basil3 - just ordered the U11 solar red from HTC Ireland. Can't wait for it. On my HTC 10 I really enjoyed the viper rom and think I will be flashing again.
    http://venomroms.com/downloads-htc-u11/

After the usual unlocking bootloader, install twrp and backing up stock, is it just a matter of flashing ViperU_1.3.0_MAGISK.zip. Does this automatically root the phone as well ? What are the implications of not having soff ?

    thanks

I personally don't use the Magisk ROM, I just use the standard ROM. Of course, the main reason is that my theme isn't Magisk compatible.

No S-OFF only really means we can't update firmware, so you need to return to stock and take official OTA. I guess that's a benefit of running stock with Magisk ROM, you can easily return to fully stock to take the HTC OTA's. Myself and most of the venom guys are still running the original firmware, with the latest ROM based on newer firmware and there's no issues.

Actually, seems you can flash the new firmware as long as it's signed, so I'm gonna update my firmware to 1.13 base now. I think it will wipe the device, though.

I'm trying to find a simple guide.

    Basic steps are:

    1. Unlock bootloader using HTC Dev here: https://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/

    2. Flash custom recovery: https://twrp.me/devices/htcu11.html

    3. Install custom ROM.

Your device will be wiped during the process. I can help via PM or hangouts if you need it, but it's pretty straightforward.

Basically the firmware part of your device is protected by security, so flashing a ROM doesn't touch this bit. If HTC send out an OTA, it will usually update this part of your device. When you're rooted and have an unlocked bootloader, you don't receive these OTA's any more.

In my case, I was still on the original 1.03.401.x firmware, even though I'm running a 1.13.401.x ROM. It's not a big deal, but my firmware isn't matching the ROM. I actually just flashed the signed OTA now, followed by recovery and ROM again to get my up to date with firmware matching the ROM. Took 5 mins max.

In your case, it won't be a problem, because you've already updated to the 1.13 firmware from HTC, so you'll already have matching fw and ROM. It will only be when HTC push out further updates where you might have to worry about it. It's actually quite easy to update the fw separately, though. I've just done it without having to return to stock or wipe my device.

Quick query guys. Is there such a thing as a Macro mode on the U11 Camera? Or, is it just a case that the camera just detects what mode it needs to be for any given instance?

Also, is there an option to 'Tap to focus', or, again, should that just be automatic?

    Ta.
