    Ms

My Yorkshire Terrior loves to eat some apple sometimes when I a having some and she is fussy too. She likes red ones more than green ones.

So what unusual things does your pet do?

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

My cat miaows for me to lift her up to her food even though she's well capable of jumping. It's like an attention seeking thing. :)

My dogs go crazy for carrots. When they see the bag of carrots coming out of the bag they go mental with excitement

My dog smiles to greet me and other people that he knows and likes. Big cheesy grins :D

My friends dog will come over to you if you are sitting one kitchen chair. She will turn around and reverse between your legs and sit down with her head up looking for a rub

When we're out for a walk, our dog (that's a female) will mark her territory but shes quite acrobatic about it, rather than just squatting down and doing her thing- mid stride she'll bounce up and balance herself on her front paws and do her business while spinning 180 degrees. Then when she lands she'll keep walking barely breaking stride

My dogs love carrots too. Especially my terrier. If he hears the peeler he just assumes it's carrots we're peeling and starts bouncing around our legs. We often have to bend down and show him the potato we're actually peeling so he'll calm down.

He also loves apples and melon and cucumber. He's a bit of a health nut!

Maybe it's a terrier thing, terrier here too! And I agree, it's hilarious and never gets old!

Opie is sexually aroused by human feet.

You can't go barefoot, even with socks, in our house. He starts by smelling them, then he'll lick them, and then he'll roll all over them and rub his head against them making real creepy growl-type noises. That's when you need to move your feet, because its not his head he rubs off them next!!!

Yeah, bit weirder than most :P

Since the day our dog came to live with us (only a puppy) hes 7 now he has never done his no2 in the garden People think it's very strange.

JacobJJ cat is the newsst kid here. He came from a small new cat rescue and was handed in by his family who were moving and someone there was allergic to cats.... While they had neutered and vaccinated him ( thankfully. ) he had no name, they called him Kitty and my buddy..

When I met him I saw he was a total clown. Mouthy with it! A clumsy clutz ( a year old then) , a character. I really did not have room for him but....

In the car, he kept trying to change gear from the cage and yelling.

He has aged me! Spent hours trying to sneak out but then when I opened the door and said OK , go out. his green eyes changed colour to gold in sheer horror at the sheer horror of the idea. so I sussed him out then.

His favurite trick of many, counter surfing being his speciality which he has now taught the other cats AND THE DOG to do... is really really cute,

When he wants a cuddle. he aligns alongside you.. then he closes his eyes to slits, and puts his head on one side and slides his whole head and body onto yours, sideways. Just that. Never seen the like.. you get the all of him lying on you. Sideways. Purring to bust the ears...

he gets whacked by my bosscat frequently but just shrugs and tries again..

and now he finally goes out

And if there is any noise in the house? LOUD CRASH? Yep. jacob..... He would not survive long out there as he is so NOISY.

But that purr!!OH My What a charmer!

    Where do I start...
Cat one age 16 next month, gives high fives for cuddles
Cat two is a dreamiest addict, I mean we can't have them in the house, he will sit and beg for them.
Cat three, runs inside and shouts for attention, loudly, must be greeted correctly within minutes or she gets louder and grumpy, correct greeting include saying hi and cuddling right up to drying completely with a towel if she's wet!
Cat four, slaps the other animals to say hi, is only cuddly when you wake up.
Dogs both greet us when we get home by bringing us gifts, toys, socks, whatever they can find, one dog stands on peddle of bin while the bigger one raids it, also bigger dog can open ring pull cans, and can tell which cans are which, only steals sardines in tomato sauce, or rabbit cat food.

A story from my family in Canada

She rescues and rehomes when she can; has two big whippets and a fairly "new" cat.

Found a good home for the cat.

When the new folk came to take the cat?

Took cat out. The whippets went crazy and one... leapt through the closed window, to get to the cat.

Put cat in car while mopping the blood up.

Cat tears the leather seats to shreds trying to get out to the dogs.

They had not realised that the cat and the dogs had bonded so much that separating them?

Dog to vet for stitches; people seeking to take car damage to their insurers..

    Cat stays home with whippets..

Max likes to drink water out of a sports bottle when he is out for a long walk. We get a lot of stares and comments :)

Both cats play fetch and love watching TV. One loves chickpeas and the other is a dreamies addict. One has an internal clock and knows exactly what time they're normally fed at, god forbid I'd be 15 minutes late because she'll start pulling at things to make noise or knocking things off the counter.

4 cats and two dogs here.
The youngest cat is about 2 he can use the letter box he taps it once but is starting to get really good and it's getting louder , I didn't believe my youngest when she said "Mam Leonard is knocking at the front door" he comes in the front then back out the back door ☺.

The 2nd oldest cat is huge and prefers tall people mainly men he jumps off things onto thier shoulders and they walk around with him just standing there, very funny if it's not someone familiar with our mad animal house😊

Oh our Yorkie can also say/bark my eldest son's name

One of Jacob's tricks is to close the bathroom door so he cannot get out through the window.

So in the middle of the night when I am snug and fast asleep, he starts shouting. He has a loud voice! And he goes on and on until I get up and go down.

Or to get shout out and yell outside. He is one of those cats who can get from a to b without being seen... YOU know...

Tyger my ginger cat loves garlic mayo.

Jade-Martha my black cat is just bananas. When I'm coming she stands up on her two back paws and taps me with her front paws until I let her smell the food

My dog is obsessed with sweeping brushes. He will drag the brushes from one end of the house to the other and God help you if you try taking it off him.

My wee dog used to do that. daft as a brush we called her. Does he growl too? Hilarious!

Ok today was a new one. In addition to her standard 180 degree spinning handstand wee, today SHE cocked her leg and marked territory like a male dog.
Is that as unusual as I think it is?

My female cocks her leg if she wants to mark over a high spot another dog has peed on. She does it a lot to pee on walls and bushes our terrier has peed on.

We had a girl that did that. It only started when we got a boy dog and after that she would always lift one leg while peeing like she was copying him. Though it could have been that she had long hair so was just trying to avoid it

My cat Corey will lie with his chest in the waterbowl. He sticks his whole face in sometimes, but regularly likes to lie with the water lapping around his chest. It's usually after I've refused to feed him again.

My dog and my biggest cat are now in tandem..Dog digs a hole in the grass and cat rolls in it. Teamwork!

( is ok; informal grassy area.. I did stop dog digging by the stream as it was eroding the bank... )

Cats are the masters of the unusual... but:

Loki - grooms my hair (this sounds loving, but she plants both front paws on my head and digs her claws in to hold me still)

Willow - collects up all the bread the neighbors leave out for the birds and leaves it on my kitchen floor (this is her version of hunting)

Moriarty - greets me at the corner when I come home from work and races me home (this involves me walking on the footpath and him vaulting through all the gardens on the road, sometimes we have an audience!)

The Pepper cat likes to stick his tongue in my ear to give it a good cleaning. Its not overly pleasant to wake up to.

My old cat, Tabby Abby, would only knead me when I was asleep and only my right arm. She would stand over it, gripping it between her hind paws and start kneading away with her front ones. And if I tried to move, she'd stop and really cling onto the arm before starting again.

When my mother's two dogs are play fighting, and the younger (bigger!) dog gets hurt and yelps, the older dog will start snarling at everyone, attack one of us and then attack the younger dog!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 656 ✭✭✭AryaStark

My husky just loves to take peoples socks off and lick their feet. If she sees somebody in socks she gets very excited and the socks come off in 2 seconds flat. She will then hold the foot down with her paw while she goes mad on the toes!!! Freaks some people out!!!

Our dog is exactly the same you can not go in your stocking feet. And shoelaces when he was a pup
A lady used to come to visit and he always made for her shoelaces we laughed but she wasn't amused :)

Oh god, I hate a foot licker! We had a foot licking dog when I was a kid, might be why I never take my shoes off ever, as an adult! I don't like being licked by dogs, which is unfortunate because my ma's Lab is a licker. we were lucky for about 15 years every dog we had wasn't a licky one. But Reggie is.

I don't know if it's unusual but out puppy won't stop eating my shrubs in the garden. She has one of them near destroyed. When I tell her no she'll stop and walk away but the second I go back inside she's at them again.

May be boredom, find something else for her to destroy, a friend put treats in papers inside boxes, shoe box then more papers with treats into bigger box.
This was for a small breed dog, and she used some of her dog nuts.
Or try a kong or two.

However some dogs just like attacking stuff, they go through crazy phases as pups too.

Cleo my 8 year old cat goes funny when I'm chopping carrots.
I'll give her a piece and she'll roll all over it, heabdutt it and go into a weird trance like state.
    Similar to catnip!

Also when I wash the kitchen floors with bleach I have to put her outside as the smell has the same effect as carrots - she starts rolling around like a mad thing!

Thanks mymo. I doubt it's boredom because the garden is full of toys and that's the first thing she does when she goes out. So long as it does her no harm it'll be grand.

Bleach is a thing for some cats all right - a colleague of mine has to lock her cat out when she's cleaning the bathroom as the cat will lick the tiles.
And I can't stroke one of ours when I've been to the local pool. The smell of bleach off my hands makes him try and eat them....

It's strange that's it's only some cats, my other 2 aren't bothered at all by it. Or the carrots.

Don't know if Pepper is a dog or cat but yes my old dog used to always do that. At first I thought there was no water in his bowl but no it was full to the brim, he must have just like the taste of chemicals. :)

love the stories! the joys of animals... Mr. B has many quirky ways, one would be he plays fetch (he is a cat) he goes made for those bulldog hairclips, you thow it and he will go get and bring it back to you. He also goes into a bit of a trance when you rub his nose and he likes when you file his nails

Our 10 month old male kitten Zaza will growl at the other cats if anyone comes near him when he is eating veggies (cooked broccoli and sweet potato are his favs). He also goes mad for vanilla ice cream (when he gets it).
