Been stalking this thread for a while now and have decided to bite the bullet and Switch!

    Have a few questions!
    • Where is the best place to try and pick up a Switch in the next week or 2?
    • Recommended case?
    • Anyone recommend a tempered glass protector?
    • Recommended memory card? I am going to go all digital download

My friend bought one in Smyths today. They don't have them in store but available for home delivery! He got the neon Switch...

Not sure about where to buy, there seems to be stock shortages in Ireland with some saying no stock in Argos/Smyths until June

I bought these all from amazon:
    Orzly Tempered Glass Screen Protector
Orzly Carry Case (there was an offer buying the case and protectors together)
    Sandisk 64GB Micro SD

    Very happy with them all

Thanks for the suggestions! Think I'll go with a bigger card so I dont have to delete games as often.

    Keep the suggestions coming! :)

No price though. It's $90 in the US.

Is it just me or is that price bonkers for what it is

It's still live on the site but it's flagging low stock. If you have an AIB Visa card, they have a loyalty program that offers 8% cash back on purchases from Smyths online. Can't see any of the usual Ts&Cs excluding consoles or games. Worth a look in :D

The 128GB one worth it at £37.19?

For plastic and a USB Type C cable? Its fairly mad alrighty. It will sell anyway.

I'd be curious as to when we'll see standalone switch consoles for sale. Like, just the tablet part, no joycons or cables, for if you damaged your console somehow.

Yep, it's pretty expensive for what it is. I believe there's an option to buy it without a HDMI cable or power adapter for $59.99 in the states so conceivably bring it down a good bit using 3rd party cables.

I'd jump at having a second one if it came in under €50 I reckon but wouldn't go for it at the US prices.

128GB Toshiba Class 10 Micro SD card
    - £37.89
When I got mine, was as low as £33.31. Seems like a pretty good card.

I got the official Nintendo case, which came with a simple plastic screen protector.

Absolutely. It's a rip-off but then that's what they do. It's a glorified plastic stand with a few HDMI ports and a couple of leads. Wait and see this'll get slapped with a €90 price tag when it releases here.

I have that case. Tell me - do you put the flappy bit in the middle over the screen as a protector or under the body to equalise the depth of the tablet part to the shoulders of the joycons?

    It's over the screen isn't it? That's what I've been doing. :-/

I think that might be the case for every single console I own :/

Could be worse, i have more games than i can play for the Switch because I don't even have a switch yet.

    ^ This!
Protects the screen and means the bits for game storage etc aren't rubbing against the back, and allows space for the control sticks and buttons so they're not mashed against the other side of the case.

I think I've been doing it wrong... there's dents from the sticks in the top of my case!

Interesting little bargain alert for you.... but don't get excited.
If the Switch Stand retails for around 90 quid as expected, here's how to save a tonne on Switch accessories :
Get 1 Joycon pair (value 84 quid), 1 Switch stand, including AC adapter and HDMI cable (value 90 quid), 1 Joy Con comfort grip (value 13 quid) plus a Nintendo switch (apparently only worth 143!) for only 329.99 - bargain!

Part of me is thinking that any repair will cost more than 143, might be worth waiting for a bundle with cool themed joy-cons or a game I really want and put the spare switch in the attic...

speaking to investors in a financial call, EA CEO Andrew Wilson noted that the company is now very bullish on the Nintendo Switch, expressing excitement for it bringing an entirely new ecosystem into the fold. He noted that EA is considering bringing more of its games to the system, in addition to the previously announced FIFA 18.

EA being mentioned prompts venom on every forum in existance but only an idiot would be against them bringing more titles to the system. Other 3rd parties will follow, building momentum and selling more consoles, it can only be a good thing.

More EA games would be great definitely, the more support the better. The problem with EA is you rarely take anything they say about the 'future' seriously. They would be better off not saying too much along the lines of the infamous 'unprecedented partnership' and just show their hand.

It was an unprecedented partnership. Just unprecedented in a bad way :D

No venom here, they didn't lose their shirt supporting the WiiU but their lack of support for the 3DS in recent years is odd, given how popular the device has been and that they made plenty of money on the DS, back in the day.
It'd be nice, beyond nice in fact, to see tailored Switch releases of their big games franchises on the Switch, rather than pitiful ports.

NBA Playgrounds looks terrible in handheld mode. It's like there's a layer of vaseline over the screen on something. It's a bit better in TV mode, but not by much.

I have a code for orzly if anyone wants it. There are no t&c so dunno if it'll work with any product or whatever.

Got it with a 2 pack of screen protectors. It's 15% off

(This means pm me if you want it)
Did anyone send their left Joy con back to be modified by Nintendo for desynching?

I e-mailed Nintendo a while back to ask what the procedure was doing this, and I got an automatic "We are super busy" e-mail back, and heard nothing since.

I couldn't find anything online on any of Nintendo's official sites, so was hoping someone knew here.

That AIB thing will be a fair whack off the price if my Smyths order goes through — cheers, Banjo.

I placed an order an hour ago, and no cancellation email yet. I'll be surprised if the order is fulfillled, though! The Smyths website has returned to "out of stock" again.

Meanwhile, Amazon — who weren't selling the Switch at all last week — are now at least accepting orders to be fulfilled when they get more stock, which they say will be May 20th, a date that's a little more optimistic than the "June" statement by Smyths and Argos.

Does anyone know where I might find a Switch for RRP? Either here or in the UK., I said I'd help my buddy find one since they seem to be out of stock everywhere till June. He can wait if there's none to be got like, I just don't want to go traipsing over to places if there's nothing to find.

Edit amazon says they'll be in stock next week, hooray.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,113 ✭✭✭Danonino.

Not RRP but I guess if he's really wanting one right now CeX have them for €30 over the RRP Boxed grade.

Good news = he'd have it immediately, a two year warranty, won't get stung by parental locks and nonsense like that. Boxed means it has to be mint with everything it originally came with (leads, extras etc) and can probably trade in old ****e against it to bring the cost down under the RRP.

Bad news = It's second hand and so won't have that minty new feel, and its €30 for what's essentially an extra years warranty over buying t new.

Still though, the ones on adverts are €320 so it's not that far off the second hand prices at the moment. Amazon new is grand, and a week is nothing to wait.

Probably a bit obvious, but make sure you're enrolled in the awards scheme (there's a thread in bargain alerts about it) as it's opt-in, not opt-out and make sure it's an online transaction, not click n collect. Don't think you need to do anything special to use it, there are no codes or vouchers, just use the enrolled card. If it works, let people on that thread know.

Buying one retail : anyone looked in Head in Liffey Valley? They had one behind the counter since launch for a tenner more than RRP, was still there last time I was in.

There seems to be a famine of them on adverts, least in Dublin. Cheers though.

I'm gobsmacked that the system has sold out tbh.
Too early though to chalk it up to popularity and buzz, perhaps supply problems again?

Smyths site says June for stock The Neon is €390 boxed in cex outrageous price, through some leg work and homer simpson mind tricks I could get €390 cex credit for about €280 cash or there abouts.
