90 or 100 indie roguelite / roguelikes every month seems to be the standard fare

Nintendo only really made a decent effort in the launch year and the year after in terms of quality first-party titles

What's the difference between roguelite and roguelike, or are they interchangeable? Not usually much a fan of them which ever way it's supposed to be said.

Pixelart rogue-y games are definitely over represented on the Switch.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

not really sure tbh - both terms seem to be used interchangeably a lot but there is this....

    https://screenrant.com/roguelike-roguelite-difference-permadeath-hades-rogue-slay-spire/

I'm not sure how correct that is tho based on off one definition from 2008 or whatever.

has to be turn-based? - definitely not the accepted definition anymore I would say.

to me the key features are procedural generation and permadeath

at this point I'm of the belief that aside from the few good ones that procedurally-generated permadeath games in many cases are a cop-out over putting the effort in on actual good linear design

I think the general notion is supposed to be that roguelites are less brutal (e.g. you might get checkpoints, upgrades or buffs that persist across runs etc) whereas roguelikes are, for me, almost like an answer to the question "How do we make a videogame that's not actually fun to play?" (permadeath, procgen, as little guidance & help to the player as possible etc).

To each their own, of course, but most of the time I see either of those terms attached to a game and my eyes start to gloss over.

Anyone ever get a Switch mount for the Pro Controller? I'm specifically thinking of getting this one - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fixture-S1-Premium-Controller-Nintendo/dp/B08JRVCP2M/

I have a Pro Controller which is so much nicer to use than Joycons and while the have the Hori Split Pad Pro for the bigger controllers and thumbsticks for handheld mode, I miss the rumble and motion controls that the Joy Cons and Pro Controller have.

    I have that one.

I have been using it for just under a month and really like it, it is very "posable" and the hinges are stiff/strong so it stays put when you find where you want it. I haven't noticed the weight being a problem.

Having looked at the other (cheaper) options like the OIVO and Mcbazel ones this just seemed like better quality and do not regret the purchase.

I think it was originally listed for more than £26 (or out of stock maybe) so junmped when I saw it had dropped/was available.

Going away camping for a couple of days next week and bringing my Switch, are they okay to charge with a battery powerbank thing and standard USB C cable? I know some docks bricked Switches but I am under the impression it's the dock side of things rather than USB C that caused the issue, but maybe I'm wrong.....

I have used a powerbank that I would usually use to charge my phone and it wasnt strong enough to charge the Switch. I have also used the USB C from a phone charger to charge it from the mains and its the same, it just takes longer to fully charge

I've used a powerbank with the Switch since launch, usually used it plugged in while playing, was fine on some long flights

Anyone ever buy from the Argentinian store or others? Noticed some games are ridiculously cheap on there… wondering if it’s a straight forward enough process to purchase.

Some are pretty straightforward to buy from, unfortunately Argentina isn't one of them. Very difficult to get that one to work I think. But maybe others here might know a way I don't.

Here's an annoying video to explain the general process:

Thanks for that! Wonder if there’s any store that works for us then? Was planning on using Revolut/PayPal and seeing whichever payment is accepted. Have read before of people managing to get into the ARG store but they’re all US-based and the posts were from over a year ago.

I have stores for USA, Russia and South Africa.

Russia and South Africa work with our credit/debit cards.
For USA, I buy eshop cards from https://www.pcgamesupply.com/

Use https://eshop-prices.com to compare prices across all regions.

    Some examples:

    Mario + Rabbids
    https://eshop-prices.com/games/383-mario-rabbids-kingdom-battle?currency=EUR
    €9.99 here
    €6.33 Russia

    Ender Lilies
    https://eshop-prices.com/games/6837-ender-lilies-quietus-of-the-knights?currency=EUR
    €24.99 here
    €17.23 Russia

Thanks for that. I’ll give those stores a try… they’re more expensive than the Arg/Mex stores but still a good €5-€8 cheaper than the Irish store.

I think most South American countries are difficult to buy from.

Seems to be getting somewhat mixed reviews.

Nintendo are in dire need of a Rare type partnership. These Mario (insert activity here) games are getting old. Although I understand theyre huge sellers but we're getting close to Mario Cutting the Grass, Mario Goes for a Shít, Mario boils the kettle now.

    Reminds me of this

Waiting for a new Dr. Mario where he transitions to dentistry.
    Dr. Mario, D.M.D.

(I may or may not watch AEW)

Its like early 90s WWE where they just got the Yellow Pages out and rattled off professions as gimmicks.

Any one have issues with USA eshop cards, I bought a 10$ one last night but tobbed up my account with 5$

the "creative legends" at Nintendo are now very much at the least middle-aged and/or indeed just very aged men and a lot of them are still around in influential positions.

no surprise that absolutely dragging the arse out of existing IP's / rehashes is the order of the day.

Have played a few games. I really like it so far. Pretty Fun and easy to play.

Hmm, I don't think Nintendo are quite synonymous with trotting the same old gameplay out, I think Ubisoft have that honour.

EA Sport, it's in the game...
They're definitely always the same games (not just the sport).

Don't know whether to just go for lite....

    full switch vs lite

-> want to play games on big screen?
    -> local multiplayer/ party games
-> if going to be very much mostly handheld then maybe lite (altho joycons not the best control option for every game)

    games list

-> breadth of the wild - one of the best games ever for most people and the biggest draw altho could play on a modern laptop if you really wanted to....
-> if you like Nintendo-type games mainly where graphical fidelity is not that important
-> a lot of 2d metroidvania type games out there like hollow knight

lists - something like this will give you some idea

    https://www.tomsguide.com/round-up/best-nintendo-switch-games
    https://www.cnet.com/pictures/nintendo-switch-the-36-best-games-to-play-in-2021/35/

biggest strength is probably portability (even within a house / apt, quick turn-on from sleep)
downside if it's your only/main console and you want to play AAA games

Got it this morning. Curry's P.C. World didn't have the Lite so got the Switch that came with Minecraft and Animal Crossing.

What's the variety of games like? Hopefully it's not just childrens games and I can get a few decent ones....
