Not impossible. Would be great to have the option.

Just played through the demo twice in a row. Once on home router and once on OK ish 4g connection. Ran really well both times. I'd say on home network it's actually smoother than it was when I played it on base ps4. Amazing if it stays like that during the more intense scenes. Looks amazing too.

So after a little bit of a saga I can confirm Nintendo UK is repairing JoyCon drift for free, out of warranty.

Sent it off a few weeks ago and it was checked earlier this week. But ended up getting a bill for around 30 quid. Called up support to see what the story with that was and couldn't really make out what they told me as the person on the line was speaking so quietly.

Eventually decided to just pay and get it over and done with (cheaper than buying a new set), but then the payment link they sent me wasn't working. Called them up again and this time got someone helpful. Turns out the drift is being fixed for free, and the issue I'm being charged for is to do with the connection rail - to be fair, the physical connection to the console has been a little loose I think after a small drop a year or two ago, so not going to object to getting that fixed.

    We had something similar,

after getting 6 out of 8 joycons repaired with no issues with costs, all fixed for free and 2 with rail issues (which seems to be another common issue), the last pair sent i got a world pay link sent to me asking for €30 for broken rail and drift issue,

i e-mailed customer service who tried telling me it was because they were out of warranty (bought in 2017), so i said i wasn't looking for a warranty repair but a repair of the well known fault under consumer laws, and that it's looking like the broken rail fault is quickly following in its commonality but that fault didn't bother me enough to pay €30, sure enough, a few hours later i got the "your joy con is being repaired e-mail"

annoyingly one of the red neon ones (left) sent for repair and returned repaired only in September is drifting again less than 4 weeks later :( (we sent the controllers two by two so the two switches wouldn't be unplayable while repairs were ongoing)

Just to point out... In Ireland, if something has an inherent fault (was faulty from the moment of purchase / was destined to break), we are covered for 6 years warranty. In the case of the drift controllers, mine haven't failed yet (shit, shit shit shit shit shit - I bet I just jinxed it :o:pac::mad:) but I would be fairly confident that it would be easy enough to prove.

EU law is 5 years I think (not sure about that)
The difference between inherent fault and developed fault is often covered, but it is widely published that there is an issue with the joycons drifting, which would/should be considered an inherent fault if anyone was to take them to court, which I am guessing would open the floodgates.

And to add to this, these laws are applicable to the retailer, not the manufacturer. They then need to go through their distributor to recover any cost from the manufacturer.

It's scary how close to BOTW this game is.
    It looks interesting.
Will wait for reviews and ubi soft sale :)
Certainly it should do well on Switch, if only to ease that BOTW2 pent up demand.

Even the menu system looks like its directly lifted from BOTW. Will definitely wait for reviews and more than likely a sale. Enjoyed the gameplay but the story telling was a bit annoying.

I've been playing Genshin Impact on my iPhone/iPad for the last week or so, and it's definitely scratching that BotW itch, and a Switch version is due next year, Q1 being the current rumour. It's free with IAP, but I've not spent a penny so far, and I don't feel like I've been restricted in any way.

It doesn't have the BOTW scale, beauty, subtlety, space, drama...damn ... Nintendo did magic with that game
How many more sleeps until BOTW2 ? Xmas 2021 ?

[sarcasm] It'll end up being delayed... and released as a launch title on the Switch 2, along with Metroid Prime 4, which will also be delayed for the new console.
And then it'll be angry Ninty fans on here, gnashing of teeth, betrayed, howling at the moon... just like last time... [/sarcasm]

If it's as good as the first they can take their time. But not too much time :)

Retro studios still hiring, so MP4 will be a long way away. A tropical freeze 2 would be nice too.

Not asking for much now :)

Did you email them? What address did you use?

Just applied through the standard web process: https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/Contact/Repairs/Console-repairs-1766956.html

I phoned them to chat to them when the bill came through via the number they provided.

Incidentally, still waiting for the fresh payment link so might have to make a third call now :pac:

Just tried the Control demo. Worked well for me in performance mode and mostly well in graphics mode, though a couple times it kept moving after I stopped pressing the stick.

Anyone buy it? I assume it's to keep and not just renting like I think the Japanese streaming games were.

Of course this is the opening so how would it cope in action sequences?

    Hi all,

Looking to replace an old but loved Wii with a Switch for general family use with games like Ring Fit Adventure and whatever games 16/18 year olds typically play.

Would someone mind recommending the best model and place to buy? Is there any advantage ordering from somewhere like Smyths Vs Amazon?

Are there any particularly good bundle deals available?

I've purchased it and I'm about an hour into the campaign. Looks no different to any game I've played on my Xbox One. Runs well, looks good even in busy parts of the game.
Only downside I've come across so far was last night I was put in a queue to play the game. I was 18th in line. Only lasted 30 seconds but a bit annoying. Said the server was full. Leads me to believe the game might have sold better than they were expecting.

They also say that it is yours to keep but that they reserve the right to shut the servers down, but won't do it without giving you a month warning.

cheeky bit of a cop out making you pay for the loose rail (which is also effectively a design fault but one that most people can live with unlike the drift)

effectively they are saying "well feck this but we can get some money out of them this way"

Finally got around to booting up Outer Worlds. It can be a little hazy with distance but it still looks good. Plays really well and it is great to have a game of this calibre on the Switch so I can hide away on a great 20 hour long adventure.

I tested the performance and graphics modes demo. Performance mode worked very well, no noticeable lag bar possibly a bit on lip syncing in the cut scenes. Graphics mode was not as good at all.

The queuing system is ridiculous though, imagine buying a game and then queuing to play it? It's now happening. Fair play if you are OK waiting but imo it's especially mad if you bought the game.

The tech is impressive though. There is potential for a Netflix for gaming service on the Switch and it would make more sense on the Switch than a home console with more power and storage.

For me it's the same problem as Stadia - I can get a Gamepass style service where your sub gets you long-term access to some games and higher-profile titles rotate in and out. But paying full whack for a game that requires streaming support? Not for me, and I don't imagine it's anyone's preferred setup.

Having said that, if your Switch is your only gaming device, then streaming AAA games is still a better option than not having them at all...

Personally I'm OK with it. I don't have access to this game any other way and I've only been put in the queue one time in the 7 or 8 times I've started up the game.

Personally I prefer the Stadia model over Gamepass. €15 a month for games im not bothered about. I'd rather put that money towards a new release game like Cyberpunk or AC Valhalla on Stadia and not be tied into a subscription service for older games.

IRL my day job has been a nurse and nurse manager for some 30 years in the field of intellectual disability, and I say this because this device from Hori is absolutely brilliant, a Switch controller with ports to allow the use of a totally custom control setup, imagine joysticks controlled by the movement of a jaw or sensors where the person has voluntary movement control, very impressive indeed

Looks like Pikmin 3 is underperforming. Such a pity, it's an amazing game and this puts the franchise's future prospects in doubt.

Time to play it on my Wii U while the gamepad is still working.
