Coming out of the Lower Glen at nearly 4 miles is going to be absolute carnage, especially if the day is anyway warm

Does that mean it's going to be hilly or just the hill in the last mile?

How would the course compare to the likes of the Terenure 5 mile?

    Thanks

Tougher course than Terenure for sure, but really other than that last climb its not too bad. That last climb is significant though.

There's only one climb, coming out of the Furry Glen and onto Upper Glen Road. Most of the course is flat.

Any race longer than 5k in the park is going to have at least one uphill and downhill

Fascinating to see what the numbers taking part will be like!

I'd be surprised if numbers weren't substantially down. Not being associated with the Race Series is a big hit, and numbers had been falling anyway:
    • 2011 - 5119
    • 2012 - 4056
    • 2013 - 2768 (big fall here, possibly due to reputation of overcrowding in previous years)
    • 2014 - 3119
    • 2015 - 2912
    • 2016 - 2588
Aside from anything else, I don't think the new route could handle the numbers of previous years. The Lower Glen is pretty narrow (although at least it's late in the race, so the crowds should be fairly strung out)

that's interesting, just adding other other races in the series -
    • 2011 - 5119. . . . . ....10mile 5100 half 6000
    • 2012 - 4056 10k 3200 10mile 7100 half 6300
    • 2013 - 2768 10k 2200 10mile 3900 half 5400
    • 2014 - 3119 10k 2700 10mile 4200 half 6100
    • 2015 - 2912 10k 5100 10mile 4000 half 6700
    • 2016 - 2588 10k 2900 10mile 3900 half 7000

was 2013 the year without a headline sponsor?

I really enjoyed this run last year, even though I went out too hard which meant the last climb was a major struggle. I'm not doing it this year as it's not part of the race series but love running in Phoenix Park run - a great place to run!

Phoenix Park is a very long way for me to come from just for a 5 mile.

But it was in the Park last year? Sorry, I'm just genuinely curious as to why you would choose not to do it purely because it's not a part of the race series

I did race series last year and was living nearby so park was easy enough to get to and because I had signed up for race series, obviously there was the incentive. I'm living further away this year so that's essentially why I haven't committed myself to doing it.

Apologies, you're right, I missed the important word in the first sentence of the independent article:
THE Dublin Marathon is without a title sponsor again for only the third time in its 34-year history

Completely different course to last year too. Profile is probably similar overall, but I'd prefer last year's given the choice.

Considering it's a week away tomorrow, they aren't giving people a whole lot of time to plan ahead!

I think the numbers have fallen because regular runners have found better races in around the same time now ie Dunshaughlin 10k is just one of them.

Has anyone who is doing this got their number yet. Is it being posted or is it to be collected?

Thanks for that. Interesting - they obviously assign you a number when you get there if they are doing in two different locations. Seems like a lot of hassle for them. Suits me perfectly think I'll sign up.

Also a lot of people giving out on Facebook as they thought they would be posted out. They should have really made it clear that numbers had to be picked up

They did the same for the recent streets of Dublin 5km race.
Fairly straightforward to pick up your number but I appreciate it won't suit everyone.

Thinking of parking somewhere local like Inchicore or Islandbridge and cycling to the start, prob a silly question but will there be somewhere handy to lock the bike?

I would park it by the gardai headquarters if I was cycling or else against one of the tree guards on the Chesterfield avenue. There'll be plenty of people around there.

I collected my number in Blanch this morning. They've no XL t-shirts and the large wouldn't fit an 8 year old. If you're a small, go for a medium at least.

Or an XL in Suffolk st. Snug is being generous - for comparison I took L at the Frank Duffy last year and its a perfect fit

I am off to Elverys in town at lunch time to enter (€25), I wonder if they will accept any codes at the store??

Is it worth chancing the auld arm, what do you think??

Don't really mind as I am delighted to have made the cut as I only decided to enter this week as I was on holidays last week eating pizza's and cornetto's (carb loading) :D

    EDIT:
Got sorted for 25 Euro (no discount) , but there is 20% off in the Store if you enter the 5 mile, so I bought some running gear and electrolyte tablets at a knock down price!
Went with the XL Tee Shirt as the Large was vacuum packed on to me ;)

Delighted to be running tomorrow as I have missed a few races this year....best of luck to any Boardies running tomorow

Where are people parking? Is the start line far up Chesterfield Avenue. For previous race series I've parked in Heuston and got shuttle bus to start line but I imagine no buses tomorrow. Will it be a bit quieter that can park in the park itself?

    Thanks

No according to the leaflet there is the usual shuttle bus from parkgate street
