Kettles usually wont function with a sonoff. In the off position the switch shouldnt stay down for safety.

TBH I've the 16 amp unit too
Not sure it'd trust it on a kettle or an immersion. At 13 amps (behind a 13 amp fuse on a plug top or spur) it's protected but I'm still not sure

After that message saying upgrade all my devices are working again for the first time in two months, previously only working on wifi.
If you have a look at the puny little relays in the th10 you'd think twice before connecting to a kettle, maybe a travel kettle like we have 0.9 kw

Yeah had mine for about a month or so and this is the second time they went down. TBH im going to throw them in the bin

    I'll take em!

Still waiting on mine from China. It'll only be to turn on/off some garden lights so availability isn't going to drive me mad.

I did a bit of testing on a TH16 and it survived up to about 26A at which point the relay burned out, no other damage to the connectors or traces and it works fine with a new relay.
The onboard replaceable fuse was 20A rated but it didn't blow interestingly enough. I replaced it with a 15A one.

For immersion use I'd be inclined to use a contactor with them for peace of mind but they certainly seem to be well up to handling their rated current.

I'm thinking of picking up some Sonoff devices to play around. I'd want to flash custom firmware but I see a few people online saying the new versions have issues flashing. Anyone have experience with this? Any recommendations for firmware?

for those that use these whats going on with them?

I bought a pack of 8 at a nice price from china. wired 1 up to a lamp, downloaded ewelink, ewelink app says "aws unexpected issue will be back in an hour" . Been saying that for 3 days.
I can connect to the "ITEAD****" wireless on the sonoff switch, connect to it, put in my home router and password, pairing fails.

dont know whether thats to do with the ewelink issue, anyone know?

reading that theyre really hit and miss from multiple forums, facepook postings.

Is there anyway to make them reliable?

Try the "Quick Pairing - Touch" option in the app, I added about 8 devices this weekend and they took less than 15 seconds each. This is a vast improvement from the early days.
The service has definitely been flaky over the past 6 months, however a lot of the issues you see online are related to user error and / or not being familiar with the app - which certainly has had elements that were not intuitive.

My 3 devices worked again for a few days and now they are back to working on the in-house wifi only.
    Any ideas.

It could be an issue with your firewall on your home broadband perhaps.

This is the thing, there's no issue with the servers at present but when a user like yourself has an issue with their local setup, they complain online even though it may have nothing to do with Ewelink / Itead.
This is why commercial suppliers generally only used GSM based devices, to eliminate issues with the users internet provisioning.

I have 6 and they're working fine - in home wifi and remotely.

My home bb has just an out of the box vodafone router for home use, no firewall adjustments have been made but if I have to do something to it to get ewelink to work, is there a checklist somewhere I could refer to?

just to clarify, the ewelink app on my iphone is showing that error independent of trying to pair with the sonoff. Soon as I start the app and get past the startup page, on wifi or mobile connection.

The ewelink app said "Because of unexpected problems of AWS, we need to upgrade the server, and all service will not be available for about an hour."

    all steps.
Wire sonoff switch on to a lamp. Lamp switches on and off with lamp switch and sonoff switch, happy switch is wired properly.

Read that the sonoff needs to be beside the router to pair properly so plug lamp in beside router, Im sitting beside router to try the pairing

iPhone 6. Download "eWelink - smart home control" app from apple store. Open app, before I even try to register I get the above error about AWS..

Proceed anyway, I register, login to app.

Hold pairing button on sonoff, wait 5 seconds, flashes, hold for another 5 seconds, the "ITEAD*****" wifi shows up on the phone, enter 12345678 default password, I connect to it, get an IP.

Go back to ewelink app, click + to add a device, try quick pairing mode, my home wifi comes up, password entered and correct, sonoff pairing light still blinking. Tap next.. goes to next page where it says can take up to 3 minutes to pair.

    Wait 2-3 minutes, pairing failed.

See I dont know whether its the sonoff or the ewelink app, the error on the app connecting to AWS may indicate that its that.

Sounds like the issue is on your phone, the Ewelink app can't access the Itead AWS servers. Have a look at the permissions on the app or whatever.

There have been issues with the servers though which throws in a bit of confusion.

Not to anything like the extent that the user is reporting though. I don't have any issues in my app and it's not doing anything unusual.

As I said I've added and used nearly 10 different devices across 2 networks in 2 locations over the last few days and not had any issues.
I'd recommend deleting the devices from the app and adding them back.

I have one TH16 that seems to require this periodically for some reason or other.

Appreciate any help here, though it's not firewall or app or app permissions.
Also probably nothing to do with Sonoff/itead at this stage.

Try controlling them with another phone, if that doesn't help, try installing one temporarily on a different network - at a friends house or whatever.

    Will do, thanks again.

I dont have an android in the house but do have windows. Used bluestacks android emulator, isntalled ewelink, first thing it gives me is the AWS error, I cant get further than that as the wifi it tries to connect to is the internal bluestacks widi which wont work on the sonoff.

I setup a hotspot on my phone, got another iphone 6, connected to my hotspot, installed ewelink, before doing anything I got the AWS error, proceeded anyway, detached from the hotspot, connect to the ITEADxxx wifi of the sonoff, enter the hotspot password to pair, wait 2 minutes, pairing failed

Wired up one of the other sonoffs, power ok, ITEADxxxx connect ok, pairing failed.

Will get a loan of an android, if doesnt work, expect to see 8 switches going up for sale.
