OP what weight are you? Would weight make that much of a difference?

ticks all the boxes and under budget... leaving room for wheels ...though not sure what options you have wheels when you commit to discs.

    Hi all,

Looking for feedback good or bad on any of the bikes below or any alternatives
Currently have a canyon endurace CF (dura ace) and a Boardman team carbon.

Definitely want disc brakes on new machine groupset - ultegra not looking for a race geometry more relaxed and weight important as tend to do a fair bit of climbing.

Any thoughts / recommendations very welcome

    Thanks in advance

Rented the cannondale synapse (non disc version) in Girona back in October and absolutely loved it. The geometry is very relaxed and similar to my Giant Defy. I'd deffo consider one when getting my next bike.

The Canyon at 7.9 kg for a medium isn't exactly heavy and i think it looks the best and best spec bike there.

7.3kg, Di2, Hydraullic discs, in your budget.

Also in budget, 6.9 kg, SRAM red rather than di2.

Personally if a mate of mine paid 3 to 4 grand for a road bike and it weighed near-as-dammit 8kg he/she would be taunted and booed until my throat was sore. :p

It should be possible to do a lot better.

Haha. I think most average cycles should concentrate on losing weight from their own sorry frames rather than the bikes, in my experience like :p:pac:

Well, absolutely yeah, but if you're happy with an 8kg bike, you'll get one for 1500 quid.

Also do you really want your ass kicked by a person on a 1500e bike when you're riding a 4k bike... oh the embarrassment.

When i've no more poundage to loose I'll become a weight weenie!!

BlaaMan obviously yes im aware their will be a weight penalty going with Discs but just im weight conscious I know Ill get nowhere near my current canyon which is under 7KG's with Rim brakes.

Jon The Giant Defy 1 looks great value and as you say leaves plenty of room for wheel upgrades. Yeah the Ultegra colour is awful but the 105 looks good in the flesh. Im 74Kgs

Terry good to know thanks for the info re Syanpse

Irish Rover in my opinion 7.9Kgs at that price with disc brakes is not heavy until i saw Fians post with Rose bikes they look like an option. Dont know much about Rose in terms of quality?

Fat bloke take your point if i forgot about the Disc brakes most og these bikes would come near or under 7KGS.
So in terms of disc brakes I like the comfort in terms of stopping power and confidence on decents the disc brakes would give you particularly in Ireland with bad roads alot of wet weather.

Most bike brands for 2017 seem to be carrying disc brakes as standard so id say the trend will continue.

    This makes me sad :(

I like the simplicity of rim brakes, no hassle maintenance.

Something a bit different with a Bianchi?

    http://thebikestation.ie/bianchi/

Intenso Disc with 105 at €3,500

But the extra weight is from the disc brakes so that should be normal weight?
I'd imagine the non disc version would be closer to the 7.0 mark

I'd have to play a similar card there again. 105 is a cheap groupset. Available on a deal for less than 400 quid. 3,500 for a bike with only 105 on it is mental. You can and should do waaayy better than that for that kind of money.

Yeah lets face it weve all been passed on climbs by some skinny young guy on an inferior bike.

Never gets any easier :( still soul destroying

Nice bike but agree for 105 paying a premium for the brandname!

If you jump straight to the weight discussion in relation to disks, then you are missing some of the main points for using them. I see 2 benefits of running a disks not normally discussed, 1) if you pay a grand for a nice carbon wheel set, do you really want to use it as an abrasive break surface? 2) they easily allow for the use of wider tyres, which in Ireland in invaluable for comfort and also should have the benefit as well of protecting your expensive rims.

Typical of the Italian approach to anything in that they think everyone should be honoured to pay extra for the made in Italy 'cache'. My hole.

I love mine, but granted only previous road bike I had cost me (second hand) about 10% of what I paid for my rose so I guess it is to be expected that I would be delighted with the upgrade. My previous bike was an aluminium ridley with tiagra 9 speed gearing.

I have a Xeon cdx di2 rose, which is very comfortable to ride. Not as light as the ones I linked, I am 90 kgs so I really don't care about an extra kg on my bike. My focus was on comfort for longer spins.

That's a bit harsh. Wholewheat Barilla pasta is half price at the moment in SuperValue. :)

    My life clearly isnt complete!
Ive owned theor motorbikes, and believe me, the 30-40% premium on them over Japanese bikes is to say the least unwarranted.

Back in the day (up until about last year) 3000 would get a nice frame, high end gruppo, a respectable set of wheels, would look the business and come in around 7 kg.

You'd still have a chunk of folding money left over.

You're not wrong. There's a serious creeping up of prices happening where now every manufacturer's top end bike is 5 figures 10-12 grand. Plenty of bikes now for 5 & 6000 euro with only ultegra and cosmic elites. God bless Canyon and their finishing kit ethos. High end groupsets and the best of wheelsets. None of this "Here's how your bike would look like on carbon clinchers" **

**Actual spec may not match picture**
