Mine is in that Paul McCartney, although no spring chicken at 74, is still with us.

Are any of your heroes still alive? Or did 2016 and previous years take them?

My hero's are the voluntary home carers that give up their own lives to care for those in their family unable to look after themselves, and the disabled people that struggle 24/7/365 for their entire life to live as best they can despite their disability. These people are the real hero's of this world.

Bet none of them could write The Frog Chorus.

You do have valid points but the way it comes across it's like David Brent has hacked into your account.

Quite a few of them actually but I'm almost afraid to tempt fate by naming them. Here's a few:

    Clint Eastwood
    Eric Clapton
    David Jason

    Ian Botham
    Bob Willis

    Gareth Edwards
    JPR Williams

    ROG
    Jonny Wilkinson
    Dan Carter
    Richie McCaw

    QE.II......................I'll get my coat. :D

I don't really do hero worship. But I'll be gutted when Dylan goes. He seems like a bit of an arsehole but, christ, the songs are legendary.

I dont really get the Dylan worship at all. He's made a living by mumbling incoherently.

    Each to their own though.

My 90 year old father is a hero to me.

Still-living people who have meant a lot to me at stages in my life...hmmm...

In sport, Roberto Duran was a huge hero of mine growing up, and when I did amateur boxing, I ended up boxing like him.

In film, Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese are two directors I really admire and think write great films.

In music, Springsteen and Tom Waits were the soundtrack to a large chunk of my life - they should have at least another decade left in them.

In literature, J.M. Coetzee - made me think more than any other writer I've ever read.

Stephen Hawkins, Richard Dawkins, Brian Cox - I do worry about Richard Attenborough, though.

Any and All of the surviving Irish soldiers from the siege of Jadoville, Elizebethville and The Tunnel. They did in real life what Arnie, Stallone, Willis and Segal dream about in Hollywood. True and Worthy descendants from Na Fianna.

Sports Sean Kelly harder than the cobbles in Belgium, John Tracey - first time ever to run the marathon and he got a silver Olympic medal and twice won the World Cross Country Title, Stephen Roche Cycling triple Crown winner and only man other than Merckx to do it, Eamonn Coughlan World champion and first man over the age of 40 to go under 4 minutes for a mile, Barry McGuigan because he would not stop at anything to regain the belt, Eddy Jordan - is there anything he wouldn't try and how many F1 Champions did he discover? , Sonia and Katie.

Can't say as I've ever had a " Hero ", as such. But, people I've greatly been impressed by would certainly include Jack Hargreaves ~ a TV personality who made real countryside life a legendary, prime time viewing phenomena for a nation and more than one generation.

Then, there was Brian Plummer. In truth? Probably more full of sh!t than my manure bay. But, f**k me, could he weave a tale in a book?!

Still alive, today ~ and, hopefully still next f**king year? Have to be Ian Anderson and The Boss. Because both have consistently turned out brilliant songs. But, more than that? I've heard little stories, about each of them, that just bring a tear to the eye. They're just f**king nice people.

    Morrissey.

Some may call him a miserable git. I've always found him to be very witty and a great entertainer. The greatest frontman that I've ever seen live.

Long may the Moz continue...helped me through my youth....and I for one am happy that he has a life of luxury in Los Angeles.

Although I am just in from the pub, and a life of luxury in LA will do nothing for his song writing.

I loved Christopher Hitchens also, I used to chain smoke like he did. And take whiskey in the early morning. He was a real man.

Where we did differ on theological matters I did respects his right wing political views, he was a classic conservative in many ways.

A large part of the reason how I switched from the left as I matured. His brother Peter might a bit too far for me but I'll always love Christopher Hitchens.

    God rest him.

Yes, real men put themselves in an early grave.

Hitchens was a legend, but an addict.

I used follow the BPL closely as a young lad. Peter Schmeichel, Gudjohnsen, Solskjaer, Hasselbaink and Henry are still relatively young, as I am myself :pac:

Although I was born some time later than his prime years, Mohammed Ali is a hero of mine who has passed. Both his story and his personality are utterly captivating.
