Watched a sci-fi fiction film Red Planet (2000). It mostly fails to suspend my disbelief. Aside from that, the robot they took with them sustained damage upon landing on Mars. The human oversight programming was lost, and the robot went autonomous and militarily defensive, perceiving the astronauts as the enemy and attacked accordingly.

Makes me wonder to what extent damage to today’s killer robots could make them go renegade?

From a hardware perspective it's very easy to have your computing systems resilient to damage. Triple redundancy can be done at individual gate level for resistance against cosmic rays flipping bits or it can be done by having different systems using different types of hardware checking each other.

Software is the problem. You don't even need garbage in to get garbage out.

Airbus used Intel and Motorola processors AND two different non-interacting teams for their software when they started off fly by wire. And a voting system to decide which to trust.

This is ancient history in the Aircraft industry. Thee is no excuse for doing otherwise in life critical systems, especially considering military budgets.

Tank killing robots armed with the most powerful US missiles in US Military Times vid (one month ago).

Wonders if they are experimenting with generative AI and killer robots?

The Russian Ukraine war fosters the development of autonomous weapons systems. How autonomous will they become as the war continues into its third year?

    In other dystopian news

Robots crush career opportunities for low-skilled workers , They also boost support for populist politicians, study finds

"One additional robot per 1,000 workers decreased the average local market career value by $3.9K between 2004 and 2008 and by $2.48K between 2008 and 2016,

Poverty is a leading cause of premature death :(
