Subscription is optional, its for the geofencing and window open gimmick. You can get around it if you need it as you still get away alerts, you can use other smart apps to trigger homecoming, or just do it manually.

One major problem with Tado is that you can't manually set away/home. It is an absolute pain in the arse if you have underfloor heating. You can set your phone to be the geo fence trigger and you get a text (or email, I've never used it) when you move away from your home (or it will happen automatically if you have the subscription). The problem is you can't turn it back to "Home" without the phone being back in range. For underfloor heating that might take 12 hours to get back up to speed it is completely useless. I actually couldn't believe it didn't have a simple home/away switch from within the app. I had to reset all of my schedules for each zone to an away temp and then reset then them all back to normal the day before I came home. Not good!

You can add an IFTTT applet to run the zones on/off by hand regardless of where you are.

may be store specific, but philips hue gu10 single packs were marked €24.97 in Currys waterford but scanned at €19.97 + 30% discount = €13.98. None left now though!

    Hue e27 - marked €24.97 + 30% discount - about 7 left

    a few Hue e27/b22 starter kits are either 119.97 or 149.99 + 30% discount

Thanks for the above, I was holding off for a while waiting for a price drop. For anyone looking for 4, I got them for £27.99 as there was a 30% off voucher from Teckin applied at the checkout.

curry's have a promo of 30% discount on some of their clearance product, but it varies from store to store and i don't think it's available online (sometimes it goes to 50% off the clearance price).

the gu10 bulbs are the older range by the way, which i only just realised after taking them out to put them in gu10 lights that they are too bloody big for.

luckily, i have a differnt place for them.

These need individual plugs I assume?

How is the app etc? Do you need to pay for the cloud storage to have any of the functionality?

Plug or usb, app is clunky but ok.

Don't use cloud as you get a free 6 second clip when motion is detected and i have a SD card in each camera so i'm able to view the entire event which is 2 mins unless motion is detected again, windy day would have continuous recording that you can see without paying if you have a sd card in the camera, you can adjust the setting so it doesn't easily activate by a leaf blowing.

For €40 for 2 i'd buy it just to test it out, the alternative cameras is mad money, in the hundreds on top of having to get a subscription, if i was throwing that money at it i'd get a real wired camera system and cut out that subscription crap

I have one of these too. Great wee camera especially for that price. I’m using it with custom firmware, to stop it calling home. Integrates with HomeKit via Homebridge also. Really handy.

Do you lose the ability to review the video then?

No need to use the cloud. They have local storage. Full functionality in the app regardless of cloud or not.
They have changed the app to try a hard sale of the storage.

Not really a bargain as such but if you're with Energia for electricity and you switch to another provider they will offer you via email a free Google Home (not a mini) and a discount to stay with them.

How so? Do you have to physically sign up with someone or just threaten to leave?

Also does it renew your contract?

We had just switched to Electric ireland. I didn't pursue it but I would think you will be saddled with another 12 month contract if you avail of it.

You could chance ringing them and threatening to leave and they might give you the offer.
