And I don't think the Pacquio fight was Freddy's first crack at Mayweather. Wouldn't he have been there with Cotto?

A loss doesn't necessarily mean the game plan was flawed. It's entirely possible that Mayweather was just better.

I'm open to correction but I think Manny was the only southpaw he trained for Floyd. Cotto mostly fights orthodox though he has switched on occasion obviously.

Whichever way it's flipped the logical reasoning didn't make a lot of sense to me.

More to the point, I couldn't see Roach coming out to Ireland for an 8 or 12-week camp, which makes it even more perplexing why he even raised the issue.

One thing I did like from the interview was the recognition that there's no point trying to turn Conor into a traditional boxer in the span of 3 months. The fact they're willing to at least try come at this from an MMA striking perspective is encouraging.

I don't know how effective it can be but if Conor does fight from a wide-karate-based stance and focuses on roughing him up in the clinch, it might at least unsettle Floyd for a round, maybe 2 rounds. Won't make for much of a spectacle though.

Of course there's always the possibility Floyd just KO's him in 30 seconds. I see many positive outcomes to this fight for Conor, none of which involve *winning*, but I also see the possibility he takes a lot of head trauma so I hope there's no foolishness regarding throwing the towel in. If it's going very badly even after 3 or 4 rounds I hope they'll protect Conor from himself.

Imagine the memes if he gets knocked out in 30 secs.

My god this is tedious. He said on Paddy's day that they were "very very close". That was almost 3 months ago. Such a shame, it's been 7 months since UFC 205, prior to that (apart from the injury vs Holloway) he was one of the most active fighters on the roster. It's just so disappointing for MMA fans in this country, and around the world to be fair. Hopefully it falls through and he can get back to MMA but I can't see that myself. It also doesn't look like he's doing a whole lot of training in general, I can't remember the last time I've seen a post of him with John Kavanagh or partaking in any MMA training. Even if he does come back he'll surely be rusty. It's just a huge shame in my opinion.

Wasn't too rusty after the ACL, he came back a better fighter altogether.

Jon Jones - 4 fights in last 4 years.
Khabib - 5 fights in last 4 years
Jose Aldo - 6 fights in last 4 years
Ronda Rousey - 7 fights in last 4 years
Amanda Nunes - 8 fights in last 4 years
Michael Bisping - 8 fights in last 4 years
Demetrious Johnson - 9 fights in last 4 years
Stipe Miocic - 9 fights in last 4 years
    Conor McGregor - 10 fights in last 4 years (& 2 months)

Even with an ACL tear and having a baby he's still managed more fights than just about any champion and/or top ranked fighter on the entire roster.

He was in bits ahead of the first Diaz fight yet he still showed up. Aldo and RDA pull out, no problem he still rocked up. Wrecks his leg rolling with Rory McDonald, still makes the walk.

It's crazy that people are begrudging him some time off to do absolutely feck all or moaning that he hasn't got a fight signed (boxing or MMA). He's 28 going 29, rich as fook and just had a new child.

He's allowed to take a break. He deserved a long break. He was still carrying injuries picked up in both Diaz fights throughout the Alvarez Camp into the fight itself. I'd much prefer he took a long break than pull a Cowboy on it and push one fight too many, too soon.

We need to start recognizing that most champions only fight once, maybe twice a year and we are blessed as MMA fans that Conor likes to fight so frequently.

You're missing the sentiment of the post I think. Fine he deserves a break. That doesn't take away from the fact that 1. He is missed. His MMA fights are a spectacle and 2. If we do see him again it'll be in some exhibition boxing match.

I agree he deserves a break but when he does come back I would love it to be in MMA.
This Mayweather crap has rumbled on forever. It.....is.......tedious!

The sentiment of his post was it's frustrating it'll be at least a year between his last MMA fight and his next MMA fight.

I don't find that frustrating at all after the journey he's given us the last 4 years and the fact that's a fairly common gap between fights for a champion.

He needed that break. His shin was banged up, his right hand was banged up and he just had a new baby.

If he wants to dance around a ring preparing for Floyd or sit in a VIP area at Forbidden Fruit enjoying a few tunes, I'd much prefer he goes and does that because I'm in a small minority who believe Conor will fight in MMA until he's 33 or 34. I think we'll see another 4 or 5 fights from him because a) he wants to leave a legacy and b) he loves MMA.

A good long break will extend his career (if he wants it extended).

    I can't help but notice you missed the featherweight champion. Let me get that for you;

    Max Holloway - 13 Fights in 4 Years (& 2 weeks)

Future hall of famer and 145 Goat Holloway, currently McGregors best win too I think time will show once he mauls Edgar hes wiped a division out as much as possible.

    I also left out

    Joanna - 12 fights in 4 years
    Cerrone - 16 fights in 4 years

I did clarify more than *most champions/top ranked fighters*

You said more than any champion, that's why I mentioned Max but not Cowboy.
    I wasn't counting Joanna's non-UFC fights.

This is what I was trying to convey. Not that I'm angry about him taking a break from MMA, of course I have no problem with that. If I felt he'd be rejuvenated after it then I'd be buzzing, but sadly I feel he's probably fought his last fight in the UFC, and that's disappointing. Just like it was disapointing when Roy Keane and Ronaldo left Man Utd.
I am unashamedly a huge fan, I miss the excitement of flying to Vegas for the fights. They were genuinely some of the most memorable weeks of my life, and memories I'll look back on until I'm old and grey. The fact that there probably won't be another chance to do that is gutting. The tediousness of the Mayweather discussions, having dragged on for about 6 months, all to lead up to a nonsensical exhibition event, that is the disappointing thing. Not that he's taken a few months off.

But that's *exactly* what most people on this thread think too?

Everyone thinks it's a gross mis-match because they are 2 different sports.

John has now taken pops or digs at the following list of people in the past 12 months:

Meryl Streep (for being a rich liberal)
    Khabib (for missing weight)
    Ferguson (for turning down opponents)
Floyd Mayweather (for being a dirtbag who hit a woman)
Jon Jones (posted multiple syringe emoji's after he popped for UFC 200)
Anthony Pettis (Trolled him for missing weight)
    Tyron Woodley (lack of skills)

You can debate the Meryl Streep one but the rest are all Conor's business and it's pretty clear he's only getting involved because of all these articles that result from it:

When you google Firas Zahabi, the first article suggested under 'News' is Firas demonstrating how to do an inverted triangle from guard.

When you google Greg Jackson, the first article suggested under 'News' is how he's advising the cast of Kingdom on realism on the tv show.

When you google Rafael Cordeiro, the first article suggested under 'News' is about TJ Dillashaw training in his gym for his next fight.

When you google John Kavanagh, the first article suggested under 'News' is "Conor McGregor's Coach calls Floyd Mayweather a lowlife and a woman beater".

IMO a Coach should be focusing on improving the skills and results of his fighters and not consistently taking digs at other fighters. He's going to get slapped one of these days by an Elite UFC Fighter.

In fairness domestic violence is an extremely disgraceful and abhorrent act and a bit different from all the other digs.

Nope I had it covered :)

Reading between the lines, Dana at the end of this clip seems extremely confident the fight is close to being made.

impressive stuff, still tho then fights in the same time period isn`t bad.
so i dont get why you make it sound like he did something underhanded with the "let me get that for you" comment.

Fighters don't fight frequently enough. Unless you have major injury problems aiming for three fights a year is reasonable. At least five in a two year period. This eight plus months between fights is too long. Especially if you've only fought one or two rounds and taken very little damage.

Maybe if the weight cutting rules were changed and they didn't have to put their bodies through that hardship they would be able to fight more often.

Hardly a big announcement if he's moving t a new house for 3 months?

Could be something to do with SBG opening a larger facility

That's only 10 weeks away. Surely the so called "biggest fight in history" has a bigger build up than that?

Wouldn't it be in the T-Mobile and not the MGM too?

Is Mcgregor even licensed to box in Nevada yet?

This thing is so dumb.......I cant wait.
