Fair play to you. That's unreal. I wonder is there any neural network or machine learning that could be added to recognise patterns for your daughter.

Maybe, but for her the simple threshold type alarm is working well, so I'll keep it simple. But others may have to rely on more complex algorithms to detect their seizures so machine learning will definitly be very useful in many cases. There is a project already headed that way https://github.com/orgs/OpenSeizureDetector/repositories . I have been in contact with the owner of that project and he was very helpful with some aspects of mine. I was originally just going to use that project but there were a few issues including finding a device to fit such a small arm and I wanted heart rate only as she doesn't usually have the classic Tonic Clonic type seizures (But she can be active in her sleep so movement sensors only lead to false alarms for us).

Sorry to anyone who came here expecting a discussion on Home Assistant 🤣.

Hi folk's, anyone running a Plex server or similar for streaming movies locally to TVs? I've ripped my ultra blu rays to a usb drive that I play through Kodi on one of my TVs but id like to be able to share the content to a second.

    Cheers,

    Mick

I did in the past but don't bother with it these days. There is a Plex addon to run a Plex server on your HA Device, there is also a Plex integration to allow control of Plex Clients.

I use a Chromecast with Google TV on one TV with the Plex app installed to access media on my NAS or laptop. It works well for the most part.

I have Google TV on both TVs I want to watch the content on, where are you streaming your content from?

fI bought a second hand micro form factor PC to start with. Replace Windows with Linux, either TrueNAS, Unraid, or Ubuntu are the most common suggestions.

Hook up a normal external USB to start with and see how it goes. Perhaps even a "DAS" (direct attached storage).

Otherwise you can look up devices like the below. I've linked to an expensive one relative to my other suggestions and they themselves have cheaper options.

    hi folks,

giving plex a go on HA.. i installed the addon and configured it. I plugged my usb drive into the Intel Nuc and mapped it via prox mox and restarted HA.. HA can see it as under the system / storage settings it gives me the option to move HA to the external USB drive.. i dont want to do that… but I can't seem to find the USB drive when i try to browse to it via plex config.. i guess i need to mount the drive?

    Cheers,

    Mick

What have you HA installed on?

    VM, Proxmox container etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 549 ✭✭✭MickH503

It streams from a NAS on my home network. It is not connected to Home Assistant in any way though.

Can you map your USB drive as say T:\ drive and then in Plex Media Server set up a new library looking at the T:\ drive? Plex prefers if you separate TV Shows and Movies into separate Libraries.

You might be better off so adding Plex as a separate container on Proxmox and then linking it to HA. I've found it better to separate services out of HA when possible, when they can run independently. If HA crashes, then Plex will still run.

Either way though, you'll need to map/mount the external drive to access it.

I use jellyfin rather than Plex. Not great for live stuff. But I found it good. Proxmox container

another Jellyfin convert here - has a native app on my lg telly and all. Not a plex fan

Are you able to stream 4k hdr content locally with 5.1 audio etc with no issues? I've tried a nas before streaming to kodi and found stuttering with higher bit rate content

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 914 ✭✭✭WildCardDoW

I think the device specs will be important here otherwise the main difference I'd put between Plex and Jellyfin is that Jellyfin is free for all features and Plex you need to pay for certain features.

Both, in my experience, are capable of playing high bit rate content in terms of both audio and video.

There are specifics to look up to ensure that specific to the device running it - GPU pass through, drivers etc.

Fully wired or do you use WiFi for the streaming? I presume it was true 4k and you weren't transcoding at the time? I have my TV's wired to the same network and I don't recall issues.

Just looking it up, 4k HDR with H264 requires 32Mbps, so even a 100Mbps in theory should be able to stream it, except WiFi might stutter if there is contention or a weak signal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,921 ✭✭✭Wossack

my old htpc used to suffer trying to decode h265 - but the native lg Jellyfin app seems to do ok. Unless the Jellyfin backend is transcoding for me (?)

Sorry, went this route as previously it was like another job running the media server & htpc(s), so have dumbed it right down now with Jellyfin - so can’t tell you too many specifics these days

If you had a lossless rip of a high bit rate 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray it might hit 144 Mbps but probably very few discs out there that are that quality, I think typical ones will be below 100 Mbps and lower still if re-encoded for streaming.

Recently picked up a few of the new Sonoff S60 smart switches as replacements for some old S26 devices.

Very impressed with the energy monitoring etc. that integrate well into HA for around €12 per unit.

Where from? I liked the old Sonoff devices for their simplicity, but it's a different landscape out there now.

Is 12e really good value for a simple plug?

    😎

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,859 ✭✭✭10-10-20

Its an advanced technology device with digital wireless communication and remote control capabilities. So yeah, it is in my book! 😝

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,966 ✭✭✭✭Ha Long Bay

I find them very reliable and work well with my HA automations so in my opinion yes they are good value.

The added energy monitoring and overload protection features on the new devices compared to the old S26 is something other posters might have an interest in so that is why I posted about them.

    HA driving me potty again...

I have a ZigBee sonof 3.0. connected to my HA mini computer.

Had two thermometers on it for ages though their batteries are gone a while and there has been some power cuts, now I have no clue if it remains setup correctly

I remember taking ages to pair the thermostats

Now I have an energy meter, which is meant to be WiFi and zigbee but can't seem to connect via WiFi so back to zigbee.

How do I get this going? I can not get MQTT and ZHA to work

    😎

Hi ya. ZHA acts as the software bridge between the zigbee network and HA, so you shouldn't need MQTT in the mix unless you have a specific need for it. You should just need to go into the zigbee dongle and click "Add devices via this device" and then place the zigbee device into discovery mode and ZHA should pick it up.

Is that not working for you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,863 ✭✭✭poker--addict

Ok so I used ZHA and finally it spotted a device, although I see no data read out entity

In the end I also need this on SmartLife app, which seems not straight forward?

When I try to pair via WiFi the device is not seen

    Model is PJ-1203A

Seems like that energy monitor isn't fully supported on either ZHA or Z2M, so it needs a "quirk" (a plugin) to work. I see that it just got added to the device support request queue last week.

    https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/3152#issuecomment-2175429312

    Support Request:

    https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues?q=state%3Aopen%20label%3A%22device%20support%20request%22

The quirk from github case 1768 seems to resolve it for the moment.

Here's a method of installing quirks on ZHA (you just need to substitute the quirk for this one) :

In the meantime I somehow managed to get it showing back in the MQTT approach

I do not know why the WiFi option isn't working for Smart life but I see there is a way to use Google assistant or Alexa as an indirect bridge back to SmartLife , any advice,?
