Mount Leinster was very white on the car journey this evening hailstones or snow? Anyone can verify?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,726 ✭✭✭endainoz

Quite possible, Carlow weather showed a video of snow in Wexford this morning.

Last chance of a decent frost for a while tonight, probably more inland than me though. Have heard anecdotal evidence of frost being able to kill recently cut rushes that can get down to the root.

Sneachta. Lots of it. Had over 60mm of rain here today with sleet mixed in. Few miles away and higher elevation it was snowfall. Temperature here this morning was 1 degree when all this heavy stuff was falling.

I travelled from Dublin to cork today. It was like 2 different worlds. Lashing cold rain in Dublin until far side of Portlaoise.
blue skies and sun down in cork.
Back home now an dfeeezing this evening

Ground temps are still above normal, 4 or 5 days of cooler weather won't change that. What growth needs right now is rain, and luckily we're about to get sh1t loads of that. 🤣

Strong Easterly wind, raining sideways, cool enough. Bring back the dry weather!

Real spring weather. Bouncing from moderately warm sunny dry day yesterday after a savage frost. Now a total washout.

total washout here in the midlands today.

But the ground is thirsty, needs every drop of it. Could do without that cold wind though.

    Tis pissing ted

problem is getting so much of it at the one time. Seems to be changing now for the worst and extending to heavy rain well into next week. If it keeps up, cattle will have to be housed again which would be some disaster

Just finished milking here, put in a few bales rather than let them back out. Plenty silage left so don't mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,932 ✭✭✭✭whelan2

Left silage in passageway for cows here, they nibbled and off they went. Was in hospital, drogheda united game on across from it, hardy evening to be standing watching a game.

Heavy spells of rain each day since last Thursday in West.Hard to understand for those with ‘good’ land but a good few of my fields are not up to carrying a tractor now……even though last Wednesday they would have taken any 4wd.

Bloody cold as well……..damn all growth.

beautiful day here in midlands .was fencing cattle and was glorious. Went for a game of golf with friends in afternoon for first time this year. Lovely day to get away from the workload of the past month lambing and feeding calves .

Cold heavy showers yesterday left a lot of ponding about the place, good few soft spots alright.

Just gotten cold and overcast in the midlands. Rain not far away I'm guessing

some rain this afternoon. Pools of water and cold driving rain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,724 ✭✭✭✭Base price

Had a herd test in my herd this afternoon. The Vet had only arrived and dipped the boots when it started raining. We worked on through the driving rain as it was breezy enough at the time. I'd love to put an overhang roof on the outdoor crush but the roof is too low at that point iykwim. Fingers crossed for a clear outcome on Friday.

Went to a football game in Dublin last night, rained the whole way there, rained at the game and rained the whole way home

Seriously heavy rain in Clare tonight, looking at the radar it looks to be clearing by early morning. Cautiously optimistic looking forward into the week ahead though, looking like a bit of warmer air is pushing in and much less rain forecast. Long range ME forecast looks mostly positive as well.

Made some rain here today, think we've had enough now for a while, place is gone sloppy again.
