    I find it odd that some people set a target each gameweek of let's say 50 points. That makes no odds when the real average is mid 60s like this gameweek.

    Yup. Having a GW points total target is completely meaningless.

    Aiming for hitting at least the global average or average+10 would make more sense as a goal.

    Trying out my first ever proper multi quote on a PC. Fingers crossed.

    I'm kind of one of those people that if things aren't going my way, I happy to be in between 40 and 50 points.
    In that I know that I'm hitting them scores consistently it'd all but guarantee me winning my main private league. if I have a stinker and get 30 in one week, if I get 50 the next week to offset it I don't feel like my season has fallen apart.

    This sort of goes out the window on GW's like this with big scores across the board so as FHFC says being within reach or above the GW average is a much better target for a player who cares about their overall rank. I don't I just want to beat the people I know.
    I may like them as human beings, but by God I don't respect their fantasy football knowledge or skills. :D

    I also know my DGW preparation and use of the Bench Boost will gain me a lot of points over my main league rivals.
    I fully expect I'll make a balls of the triple captain chip again. Can't look by my 3 main men-Costa-Aguero-Sanchez at the moment. Lukaku won't sway me again.

    This is what makes my weekly minimum 'targets' stack up long term again in my private league, not overall. I'd gladly finish outside the top million as long as my rivals are below me.

    The point is, some weeks 30 wont be a stinker, it will be a very decent score. And some weeks (like this one) 50 will be a stinker.

    The total amount of points in the GW is irrelevant (both to OR and winning private leagues), what matters is how you score compared to everyone else.

    Yeah I agree with that point fully, that how one compares to the overall GW average is the best indicator.

    Just private league performance is my reasoning for being happy hitting 40or 50 on a bad week. My league has 6 or 7 serious contenders that will go the 38 GW distance, out of those 6 or 7, they could have an unusually high score one week and on the other hand forget to change their team or captain other weeks so I'd get away with below average scores more often than others in more competitive leagues.

    If someone is interested in doing well overall or in competitive cash or private leagues then a comparison to the overall GW average is the best performance indicator.

    I know its different for head-to-head leagues, but in the overall scheme of things, how you do in any individual week is irrelevant imo.

    Personally, I aim for 57 points a week as 57*38 = 2166, which would have won my competitive mini-league last year. So even if you have a "bad" week, as long as you're maintaining a season average of ~57 points a week you know you're in fairly good shape. A single 80 point week is not much use if you sh!t the bed the rest of the time :P

    Agreed and am assuming for a 65 average per gameweek as 61 was the average for winning last year's league. So far on course with a 62 average but long way to go

    79 points

    210k -> 136k

    I'm happy because captaining Lukaku over Sergio or Sanchez didn't end up breaking me like I feared it might on Saturday night.

    Both free transfers already used before I got around to posting my GW summary isn't so pleasing though (Mandanda -> Heaton & Shaqiri -> Allen for those curious).

    The flaw in your reasoning is the amount you're aiming for has no value at all this season. e.g. 2166 may be unreachable or may give you a £1m final rank depending on how the scoring will go this season.

    Last year I got 2174 pts for my worse season ever in the game (and by quite some distance! 69,776th).
    In 2011/12, I scored 2143 pts and finished on my second worst finish or shall I say 4th best :D: 19,111st.

    So really, the amount of points has no meaning. If you want a low aim, aim for the overall average every GW. If you want a higher challenge, aim for FPL discovery top 10k average ;).

    You mean aguero instead of Ibra don't you ?
    Team looks fine on paper (assuming you have aguero and not Ibra )
    Sell antonio and then Defoe

    Just seen you have Valencia to shift out first actually

    No I have Ibra. Had him a long time and got Aguero in GW9. He was dropped in CL. There were talks and papers about him not being a Guardiola type attacker. So got Ibra back for the Burnley game. Not only I lost plenty of pts but I also lost plenty of cash...

    Plan for this GW if there is still a plan is Ibra -> Agüero obviously and Walcott to a max £6m mid.

    But I'm prepared to take a giant hit to sort my team in one go. I'm on the back of two very good FPL seasons that got me 2 consecutive promotions in the FSA leagues. I'm last in the FSA L1 and by quite some distance. In a way that's the only thing that is keeping me playing this year...

    So I could do
    Ibra + Valencia + Walcott + Antonio -> Aguero + Daniels + £13.4m
    Or keep Antonio for this GW and have £6.5m for a mid. Gundogan? Redmond?
