Aldi has this coming up on Sunday for €30. Where alot of the bigger names can go for €100 or so.

Is this any good, has anyone ever got one before?

If it's the same one I have I'm very happy with it. Been using it for 3 years to wake me up

Have one last couple of years. Misses and I find it great, you can set the light to start coming on 5,10,15 mins before main alarm come on which may be birds chirping or sound of waves(I know groovy hey) anyway, the light starts to get brighter the nearer it gets to main alarm going off.

I find it gradually wakes you up instead of a sudden jolt. The led light gives off some brightness

    Hope this helps.

What's this now? An alarm clock that wakes you with light rather than noise?

Tries to. If you don't get up it blasts noise.

Some people find they wake up, erm, cleaner is probably the best term. I can fall asleep and sleep through full brightness due to flying too much and at crap hours so they are useless for me; as is anything but loud repetetive noise - others basically become background noise of annoying kids / Americans / whatever on planes.

Will this be an item that will sell out quickly. Do i have to be there at opening time or will i be able to pick one up in the evening? Really want to get one but not sure about getting up early.

A sunrise alarm clock would help you with that.

See this wouldn't work for me. I have to put the alarm across the room as it is cause I'm a slave to the snooze button. Even at that ive seen myself walk across room hit snooze and get back in..... more than once! A light would just require me to hide under the duvet.

Lol that's so funny! Can you imagine the profanies as u chase it round the room trying to beat it to death!!! It would want to be durable or it wouldn't last a week!

that would be the same as a toddler coming in and jumping up and down on your head first thing in the morning :D

The natural light bulbs are usually expensive, do they do a set of bulbs also? Any word?

For anyone who can't get up in the morning, try one of those alarm clocks that shreds your money if you don't get out of bed.

Personally I'd prefer once that I can feck at a wall when it goes off !!

What happens if you had this on a locker say to the left of your bed but slept facing the right... probably would need the sound to ask you or would it be bright enough to light up all the room?

Yes the whole room lights up on ours, but better safe than sorry I put it beside Mrs Mad m as I don't want her to sleep in....:D

Worth flagging that it is battery only.

    It's not battery only.

Does the job, doesn't light the whole room but it's bright enough. I use it to read.

Sound quality on the "waves" and "birds chipping" etc isn't great.

    Sorry. My bad.

Looks like a new design. Mine is different

It seems to be modelled on the Philips wake up light in terms of the look.

It is very good value for what you get, but if the previous version is anything to go by it has an LED bulb which some may find harsh. Lumie use a halogen bulb, I think Philips are LED. Both Philips and Lumie regularly come up in Amazon sales, e.g. Black Friday. I got my Lumie 250 for about e67 on sale.

Using the wake up light in conjunction with a radio alarm or some other sound is the most effective way to use it if you're a deep sleeper, I find.

These apps do similar job on your Android smartphone. Few features are free and have to pay around 4 euro for pro version but free app does the work for me.
Gentle Wakeup - Alarm Clock: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.changemystyle.gentlewakeup
    Glimmer (luminous alarm clock): play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vuxia.glimmer

Got one in Wexford around 11am. Couldn't find any at first and thought They were all gone since it was a bit late. But asked a staff member and she turned to her boxes lined up for loading shelves with and opened a box for me. She explained the delivery was late so they were only loading the out on shelf at that stage.
It looks nice, can confirm cable and plug in box, plus 3 backup batteries. Seems like a good product for the money. Now to test it...

It's a very good clock for the price. Now to test it tomorrow morning.

For anyone who purchased one today, are the LED lights strong? .... Strong enough to light up a room in the morning?

Very tempted to purchase it later this evening

All set for the morning 6:15 should be easier I hope...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,177 ✭✭✭DANNY2014

Had the bird's chirping and light came on Gradually was more relaxing than anything else deeper sleep here I come. Couldn't hit the snooze so ended up unknowns to myself turning it off!!! Will try city life sounds tomorrow morning.... That should be a shocker of a wake up...

The light didn't wake me up this morning, the alarm did. Thought that was the whole point of the light.

I have one from a previous Aldi special buy and use it in the winter time. It seems to help a bit because I don't like waking up in a room that's very dark this time of year. Whether it's better or worse than the dearer models I've no idea. I don't use the alarm though but use my phone.

But how did you feel? Was light on your side?

I have the old one from a few years ago - put it on my bedside locker.
Got to the stage I walk up from the light alone and can turn off the alarm before it goes off!
Very helpful during the dark winter months.
I usually programme it to come on gradually for 20mins before the alarm would do it's thing.

Tried to buy one in Aldi Limerick (Castletroy) and they knew nothing about them.... they didn't think they came in.

You get one bulb with it, I think? The halogen bulb I got for my Lumie costs a fiver, but I've had it 2 years and replaced the bulb once, and that's because it was dropped.

As to whether they work, I can't speak as to the Aldi one, but mine regulated my sleep cycle, and I have very bad insomnia. I would guess this one might have similar results used consistently.

Here's a tip: programme the FM alarm to Marty Whelan on Lyric FM. Sheer rage will catapult you out of the bed. ;-)

I have a little Braun clock that's been hopped off the wall many a time, still going strong, the annoying little fecker. :D

Got this yesterday and tried it out for the first time this morning. Definitely made a difference. Great little yoke for thirty quid.

    Def worth it.

I've been using it since Monday, definitely think it makes waking up smoother

The thing I find is when I used a bog standard alarm Id get shook out of my sleep, then nod off again. With this alarm I gradually wake up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,782 ✭✭✭SmallTeapot

Could anyone who bought one tell be able to me the strength of the LED lights? Watts/lumens? Thanks :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,433 ✭✭✭The Raptor

I must say i thought it would be rubbish considering i had a better bedside light. But the light on this gradually wakes me up and I'm awake before the alarm goes off and don't feel like snoozing.
