Seamus has started the 2nd fewest tournaments(15) of all those in the top 125 atm. Only Garrick Higgo(7) has played in less

Solid round of 1 under today. Needs to make a move though if he's going to be around for next week. Currently projected to drop a couple of places from 73 to 75. Top 70 to qualify

Good start today, -3 for 7 holes to be tied 22nd with Lowry. Top 25 would get him into top 70 for next week.

Power is showing great consistency. Fair play to him. He’s finished on -4, same as Lowry.

    Not finished yet, 11 holes

Just picked up another birdie, he's -4 for his round and -5 for the tournament.

But theres something off with his score as shot tracker shows he bogeyed his opening hole but he's down for par on the leaderboard.

Weird. I'd probably trust the leaderboard info over shot tracker

Looks like Drive, penalty drop & hitting 3 to the green so putt for par? which he got.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,240 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

Yes I'm an idiot, he dropped nearer the green. I auto thought he reloaded from the tee and therefore couldn't have had a putt for par.

    30ft birdie on 16 :-)

-6 now, excellent! He really is showing fantastic consistency since April or so. Hope he can maintain it.

Apparently the 18th has been a nightmare so 2 pars would do nicely.

    Inside 5 feet on 17

  • Registered Users Posts: 708 ✭✭✭loadwire

Gets the bird. -7. Par on the last would be a great round

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,508 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Superb stuff from Seamus, leading Irishman.

  • Registered Users Posts: 708 ✭✭✭loadwire

Has a 5 footer for bogey on the last. Hopefully he can hole that, still a very good round

Edit: he missed it, finishes with a double

  • Registered Users Posts: 305 ✭✭Scrabbel

Ah, that’s a pity. A bogey would have been ok - the 18th is playing difficult

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,508 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Sloppy double from bunker to finish, only his 2nd blemish in the 2 rounds. Projected 69th.

  • Registered Users Posts: 305 ✭✭Scrabbel

Good to see him being interviewed on Sky.

A significant few players who were just ahead of Seamus in the FedEx table at the start of the Northern Trust have missed the cut. Which has helped Seamus and pushed him into the top 70. In the projected FedEx table (link below) after two rounds, Lowry is down to 68th (from 66th) and Seamus is up to 69th (from 73rd). All to play for.

Anyone who started at 59th or better is projected to survive and stay in the top 70 even if they miss the cut so I'm only listing people who were 60th or lower at the start of the NT. Here are the casualties who were ahead of Seamus at the start of the NT but who missed the cut and are now projected to be out of the top 70 (starting FedEx position in brackets) .....

    Tyrell Hatton (63)

    Martin Laird (65)

    Troy Merritt (69)

JT Poston (70) <<== the guy Seamus beat in the marathon playoff at the Barbasol.

    Bubba Watson (71)

Pity about that last hole finish, but all in all I'd say he'll be happy with making the cut and giving himself a great chance of getting into the top 70 for next week. At this stage you feel that everything is a bonus for Seamus but brilliant that he is under no pressure and can just play his golf. He has been brilliantly consistent over the last few months. Fingers crossed for a good round today to put him in a strong position to make the cut for next week.

35 footer for another birdie. -2 thru 3

The fourth round of the Northern Trust has been bumped to Monday, based on a weather warning regarding the projected path of Storm Henri.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,341 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Seamus let a few go out there today. Probably needs a 67 or better in the last round to have a chance of making it to next week based on how well others behind him are doing

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,717 ✭✭✭abff

Yes, he’s made it difficult for himself with yesterday’s mediocre round. It’s still all to play for and a 67 or thereabouts would probably be good enough to get him through to next week (assuming scoring conditions are similar to yesterday).

  • Registered Users Posts: 708 ✭✭✭loadwire

Seamus currently 71st in the live standings. Just birdied his 15th hole (he's coming back on the front nine). If he can pick up one more shot on his closing 3 holes it might be enough. The 8th hole is a par 5.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,749 ✭✭✭Motivator

Up and down from the bunker on the 8th would get him in to next week. Needs one more birdie so an up and down on 8 or birdie the 9th which is a bastard of a hole.

Who are the TV directors at these things? The whole reason of this system is for this kind of drama and they're not showing the guy with a putt to get in?!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,868 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

    Got it!
