"This time"... you based in Ireland? 'Cos John Wick definitely made it to the cinemas here - I saw it in Cineworld :D

It was a strange release. It was already out on dvd/bluray in the US and "other sources" ahem, before it was finally shown here.

6 months after the rest of the world and it had been out on VOD months before it hit the Irish cinemas.

To be fair, no one expected much from John Wick and it had all the trademarks of a direct to disc release that just happened to be that one in a million.

It was good but it was no equalizer.

Who died this time, as my brother asked me about the film & i told him it as about someone killing his dog, i forgot to tell him the rest, he passed on it

Trying to Deadpool the marketing. Not sure if it works for Wick.

The first film was very tight and enjoyable for that, that trailer has a feel of Transporter from it. As much as I love The Stath, I'd rather not have Wick try to become one of those films (with what looks like pointless and bad CG car action)

The first one was like watching a computer game advertisement.

    Walked out early.

Going to this tonight with my wife for Valentines day... Really looking forward to it!

Seen this earlier tonight. I won't say much. But I loved it. I don't think I've enjoyed a sequel as much as this in a very long time. Not one hint of a cash grab about it and is a great successor to compliment the first one. It's also beautifully shot. After watching I've spent the past hour looking up training videos of Keanu Reeves. The guy is so dedicated to nailing action scenes and it shows on screen.

If you loved the first. I don't see how you won't leave this one feeling the same way.

Very enjoyable sequel.... whatever stories you have heard about John Wick have been watered down...

Just non stop action. Reeves owns the role and you can tell the work he puts into his martial arts. I loved the ending, really had an epic feel.

My wife really enjoyed it aswell, that's a good endorsement cause she wasn't exactly chomping at the bit to see it...

    Loved it.

There were a few times I thought they were going a little too silly with it but then it reeled me right back in, enjoyed the story and the action is fantastic.
The whole set piece in the hall of mirrors is amazing

Can anyone tell me if there was any non English dialogue in this? I don't live in an English speaking country so subtitles will be in the local language which I'm still learning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,209 ✭✭✭maximoose

There were small bits of Russian and Italian

Is this being shown in most cinemas? The IMC in Galway don't even have it listed...at all?

Seems very strange. The eye cinema in Galway have only two different time slots for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

I saw it in an Omniplex after I rang my local IMC and they said it wouldn't be showing on this week's schedule and couldn't answer if they were going to show it at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,435 ✭✭✭pumpkin4life

    Saw it today. My reaction:

    64935240.jpg

Outfùckingstanding film. Just two hours of non stop, out and out relentless, incredibly intense, darkly funny brilliance. I was grinning like a mad cùnt coming out of the cinema truth be told.

    Where to start?

Man ahoy, that's the best action movie to come out in years. A pumpkin classic. I'm definitely seeing this again.

It's also got to be one of the greatest sequels ever, if we're talking relative to the first movie quality. I mean the first movie was grand, but this one was just on another level like.

See it. It far exceeded any expectations I had going into it.

Loved it! Great action scenes, some amusing bits too (
Keanu and Common taking silent pot shots at one another
    ), and incredibly visceral.

Like others here, definitely recommend it if you enjoyed the first.

I thought The Raid 2 was an epic sequel, this was insane. Leave your nitpick hat at the door and you will be smiling from ear to ear watching this.

Fantastic movie from start to finish and well worth a watch. Personally I would rate it a tad lower than the first movie as that was just mind blowingly cool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭Optimalprimerib

I watched the first one the day before and it was the definition of whelming. Good but a bit over hyped. So I was a little cagey if this one would be as good.

Delighted to say I was proved wrong. I was giggling like a school girl throughout. It was nuts. The dialog was so brilliantly terrible with huge pauses between each delivery. You are expecting a witty punchline, when all you get is.... yeah.

Keanu Reeves gets slagged for being wooden and he is, delivering lines, but he is one of the best physical actors out there. He is amazing to watch in full flow and unlike cruise as Jack reacher you genuinely believed the fear he put into his enemies and rooted for him throughout.

Also for such a "dumb" movie, there is a great world being built with zero exposition. The story is in the visuals. In 2021 when John wick 7 comes out, I may be getting bored though.

Great film. Talk about turning the dial up to 11. It's all so nonsensical, far fetched and ridiculous, but it knows exactly what it is and does it extremely well with very little padding. Just when you feel it's on the cusp of getting a tad stale, it hooks you back in with insane, crazy and inventive choreographed sequences. Great film and a superb sequel.

Really enjoyed it - well worth a late night cinema trip :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,535 ✭✭✭joe123

Really hope we get a third film. This was just so so good. That opening sequence set was brilliant. While I hold the first film as near untouchable (that nightclub scene), this was bloody excellent.

Its how all action films should be done. Its not afraid to poke fun at itself from time to time either.

There is so much potential in the Wick universe. Honestly I hope it doesn't even end at a third film but I do appreciate that its hard to maintain this level of quality as a franchise goes on.

By the way, if anyone who enjoys the Wick films is interested, be sure to check out The Man from nowhere.

Saw this last night. Really enjoyed it, pure nonsense but enjoyable nonsense all the same. I thought the fight/stunt choreography was truly fantastic. This movie really opened up the whole assassins world that was just glimpsed in the first movie. a solid 5.5 out of 7 :D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭Optimalprimerib

The little nods to the matrix were brilliant too.

  • Itching to see this, great to here everyone enjoying it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,123 ✭✭✭eviltimeban

I liked it, though it felt a bit longer and slower than the first movie. It does feel like the middle movie of a trilogy, especially how it ends.

At times it got repetitive, after a while I found the amount of killing to be just a little gratuitous (do we have to see every single shot to the head?). I get that he kills everyone and doesn't leave anyone alive
(with the exception of Common - see you in John Wick 3!)
, I began to feel sorry for all the henchmen getting nailed within seconds of appearing. :)

Anyway, good action, great set pieces, amazing physical performance from Keanu. I thought
Lawrence Fishburne didn't really add much to the movie, it felt a little forced, like "hey we were in the Matrix together!"
    .

    I liked
the main bad guy and the fact that he had no escape at the end. The "hall of mirrors" climax was good though equally confusing for the audience as the participants I'm sure
    !
