it's ironic that the Republic's two leading railways (Stradbally and Suir Valley) are top of the league when lines on original trackbeds of ng railways (Dromod, Moyasta and Blennerville) are down in the relegation zone , even though Blennerville and Moyasta have original locos (Moyastsa's even works).

Not much of a list for the whole Republic is it?

No it's not, fortunately though the RPSI operations down here help to mask the true situation. There seems to be a lot of sensitivity and denial about too. Putting it simply there is no standard gauge preserved railway in the Republic, and I agree with Del Monte and others that there is not likely to be either in the near to medium future unless a miracle happens.

Sadly A39 will never see the mainline again. I find it hard to believe that the trains are as full as you make out in Downpatrick. I look forward to hearing the plans for extending the line.

you are right there, but who hundreds of thousands to certify A39 for the main line, actually A39 and 146 are in full working order so again your are talking crap and I'm tired of you slating others, you are clearly are a troll and have been reported to boards.ie

the only people with the stock available would be RPSI and I understand they have plans for their spare locos and wooden- body coaches

I was a member for a few years, but nowhere in any of their newsletters did I get the impression they had a 'Bluebell' type operation in their sights. What they want with so many locomotives and so much rolling stock is a mystery unless they intend chartering more stuff out. It would seem a neat fit with a preserved line operation though, perhaps some of the current membership could enlighten us.

Any particular stock in you would like to be enlightened about?
If the RPSI didn’t take it on what would have happened, scrap man.

    Insurance costs would be prohibitive.

Not the stock per se, but whether RPSI have any interest in a heritage railway line or supplying stock for one ?

No interest in operating a heritage railway, but no problem with loans.

Well they took back their wooden bodied stock that was on loan to DCDR last year, shame as they're lovely coaches to travel in.

So it's just your opinion rather than a fact.

The line from Ennis to Athenry was recently restored (by the state) as you are aware, so for me this is one of the highlights of the trip.
    .

I would not consider it restoration.

    Reconstruction, yes, but not restoration.
The stations were replaced with new, facilities, rather than restoring the historic station buildings. At Gort the platforms were moved. At all of them, the goods sidings were replaced with carparks, that nobody uses, because they are charged a fee, out in the countryside, so people go by car, throwing away potential rail users.

And we're done, because some people cannot behave like adults
