What brand hurt when it failed you?

    For me it's Ecco Shoes

I've worn them since I was a kid and wore each pair into the ground - they'd last for ages, keep their shape and be vaguely black.

As an adult they've been my go-to work shoes, as I walk around far too much to have any of that designer nonsense.
Also, in a world where Aladdin-pointy shoes seem to be inexplicably in fashion in every shop, they have a nice normal round shape.

I bought the latest pair only three months ago, haven't worn them much...and they've turned grey and streaky - I'm using the care cream thing I got with them (they warned off any polish) but they look like they're three years old already.

I'm completely disproportionately gutted that my Ecco shoes are such low quality - I used to love clomping around in them thinking I had a sturdy, robust, comfy shoe on.

What brands are you unreasonably attached to?

I'm a diabetic who has a reaction to foods containing a high proportion of sucralose (Splenda). In the US, basically every "diet" drink contains it, and most "sugar free" foods. When I moved here a couple years ago, I was so happy to see that sucralose is used in far fewer "no sugar added" foods and drinks, but there are still plenty of things that contain it that I would otherwise love to buy, and it's very disappointing to see something that looks perfect but that I have to put back on the shelf. What really hurts (literally) is when a brand that used to not contain it and that I used to trust switches to a formula containing it, and I don't notice in time.

Dolmio stir-in pasta sauce. When they took Anna, Giovanni and Luigi off the packet, it went to the dogs. Very watery now.

Nokia for me. Always liked their designs, their focus on actual innovation, as opposed to the guff peddled by Apple. I'm hoping that they can make a return in the future.

ditto on Ford. Had numerous Mondeos from the 1.6 to the 2.5L V6. Had a few different cars and then got a 2007 Mondeo. Got rid of it within twelve months as I really really disliked it. I actually feel a bit sad about that old Ford relationship. We were great together for so long and then... well in this case it WAS you, not me.

If you hate the product and service (totally agree btw) what can you possibly love about the experience?

AIB used to be a decent bank.
Ulster bank used to be pretty alright.
All I can say now is that if there was any half decent bank available i would move.
Bewleys used to have tea in their cafes that i could drink.
ECCO City was a good shoe when it was available. No adequate replacement.
MBT shoes were OK for a time and then started to fall apart within weeks.

ALL the irish banks , they all had be rescued by the government ,
we will be paying the bill for 20 plus years .
Irish charitys ,alot of them seem to spend most of the money raised on executive pay , pensions
Do you really need to pay some bloke 100k plus to work for a charity.
Any big tech company that makes billions and pays 1 per cent tax ,through
    various tax dodges .
Any company like nintendo that takes down videos on youtube or abuse,s the dmca process as a form of censorship.
TO take ad revenue from all those evil people who just want to
    review a game .
Does anyone in japan know about fair use .

Most brands of shoes fail me the the medium/long term. All the soles (including Ecco) wear down at the outside of each heel after a couple of months.

cadburys creme eggs and most of their products are pale shadows of their former quality, also loop the loop ice pops by hb ice cream , when they were a fully irish brand they were long lasting and gorgeous , when bought out by Walls or whatever they shrunk and became tasteless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,477 ✭✭✭Oops69

my UCD degree , the brand just keeps falling a few notches in the university placings every year.

    Pacers.*

Really liked them, and then they weren't there any more

    *Veiled Boardsie vintage check. :D

Edit: Also, spice burgers. Remember the panic a couple of years ago when there was a threat that the humble spice burger was to be retired? I'd never had one. So, to support this bastion of Irish late night cholesterol shots, I tried one. One bite and in the bin. Feckin' rank. I felt very very let down, given the fuss that was being made at the time.

Cookie Crisp used to be my favourite childhood cereal. Loved everything about it. Bought a box a couple of years ago and to my horror they completely changed the cereal. If theres any way I could describe the previous recipe I'd say they were kind of powdery(?) in texture whereas now they have a glossy sheen on the outside. It completely changed the whole experience of the cereal in regards to soggyness, milk sweetness, crunch, finding a ball of chocolate chips. They definitely don't taste the same as well. Bought a box recently and unfortunately the ****e new recipe remains.

It's all different..... the normal Dairy Milk is alright, but the Golden Crisp is gone to the dogs, same for Turkish.

But yeah they really screwed the Creme Egg.

    High end fishing reels.
When they were made in the USA and Sweden they were the dog's bollx now that they're being made in the other side of the world, they are poor quality.

Falling apart and made of cheap alloys....

    +1 they're Gank now.
Sour cream and onion Pringles have changed too, rotten now. Not that they were great to begin with (Tayto ftw) but certainly more edible....

Marvel comics, every 3 years any comic can be rebooted ,
everything changes , a character can be married or single or replaced by someone else .
A reboot means start from zero, anything that happened before can be changed or forgotten .
Every few years theres a no1 spiderman or a no1 xmen just to get a sales boost, from collectors .
i remember when comics used to go on for 300 or more issues .
Characters will also be changed to fit in with the movies .
Every english sweet ,chocolate company is being bought by american corporations ,
so sweets don,t Taste as good as they used to.

seconded on Creme Eggs :( Mc Donald's Shamrock Shakes. As child a St Patrick's treat was being allowed to have a shamrock shake for breakfast, minty ice cream deliciousness. I bought one recently it was disgusting. Mc D's had changed the recipe and it tasted awful.

I'm with the OP re: Ecco shoes. I got a pair about a year ago for €110 or €120 and wore them to work for 2 or 3 days a week. I work in an office with a carpeted floor and I wouldn't exactly be the most active so I wasn't doing much walking in them except going less than a mile to and from work. After a few weeks I noticed the rubber sole on them was crumbling but I thought that was normalish wear and tear. After 3 or 4 months I noticed that if the ground was in anyway damp they would let water in. I wore them for another couple of months but only in dry weather. Finally one day at work a big chunk of the sole fell away and my foot was on the floor with only the insole and sock between. I took them to a cobbler who pronounced them deceased.

Anyway, since then I've been wearing a pair that I got for €20 in one of those discount shoe shops and not a bother with them.

Cadbury's, first it was replacing the foil on the Dairy Milks, then gradually the chocolate in the Dairy Milk itself was changed (long after their chocolate in other bars was changed). It's now awful.

Brunch ice creams. There's absolutely no coating nowadays.
