Gone off nova. Have they ever even heard of names like elliot Smith for example. Another station sunshine fm I think it was called, that was the biz before it closed

    :D:D:D

Sure they haven't even heard of Einstürzende Neubauten

Ain't that the truth. As a matter of interest, has anyone been listening to the show at all? I imagine it's still on its trajectory towards total absorption into mainstream breakfast radio?

I turn nova back on in the evenings on my way home. Pat doesn't seem so bad anymore, so usually there'll be a half decent tune on when I get into work in the morning and one of them comes on then and I immediately switch it off.
Even the ads for the show at other times of day are annoying. Thankfully my commute is very short so I've lifted my newstalk ban as thats better than listening to those two.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. My morning commute is now a silent one (but it's less than a twenty minute journey, so it's fine). The radio at work doesn't go on until 10am for Marty at Work and remains on for the duration of the work day. I always stick on Pat for the drive home. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but he does play some decent tunes and comes across as a genuine music fan, unlike Colm and Lucy.

Yep same here. I've given up radio in the mornings. Its infinitely better than C&L. Then back to Pat for the evening commute. its funny how Pat grows on you when you hear the alternative!!

Just so you know what you're missing, they're doing a competition to win tickets to culture club and Thompson twins now.
    Talk about identity crisis.

Playing Style Council now for Paul Weller’s birthday, poor fare, the breakfast show is getting worse.

    I've moved the dial....
The radio used to be permanently on Nova, now it's permanently on Newstalk.
Meaning that the crap that is the breakfast show has lost audience for Pat Courtney too

Shame how one poor show appears to be dragging the rest down with it. I could tolerate them if they played decent music but this morning is the worst so far imo

I was subjected to the breakfast show in a mates car getting a lift to work recently. It has gotten worse rather than better. My normal commute is now newstalk or dub city in the morning and nova any time after 10!

'Classic Rock Broadcasting Ltd T/A Nova'

I wonder if I started a company called Daily Fresh Organic Produce Ltd T/A Nova, would people be nonplussed when they found out that I actually ran a fast food restaurant? They need to re-brand, it's gotten ridiculous.

I've gone from listening every day to only listening on Sunday. If John Clarke ever left I doubt I'd ever listen to it.

Failing to see why playing the Style Council is an issue - well within the remit of their licence and certainly music that would meet the majority of their listeners tastd

Heard him saying that, I have a suspicion he may be reading here as he also made reference to the breakfast show playing Style Council which a previous poster had a pop at.
It appears that Nova have made the decision that they are interested in bigger numbers for jnlr's.
There isn't a huge market for a rock/classic rock/Indy based station and certainly not much potential to grow your audience beyond your original listeners. The only way they can increase their listener numbers is by appealing to the masses by softening their playlist and having celeb gossip segments.
As much as we all love Planet rock style playlists if Nova stuck to that they probably would lose half their listenership.

They have an identity crisis at present, they think they play rock (sorry guitar) music yet they run promos form anyone from Chemical Brothers to Culture Club. They want to compete with 98/104fm listenship wise yet claim they don't play the crap others do.
It be nice if the BAI made them stick to their remit or even made it even stricter as they as slowly but surely turning into the same as the rest.

Ps. As I'm typing Rory Gallagher is on Planetrock.

Nova have been playing The Style Council since the station started

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,984 ✭✭✭Max Headroom

They started off "different" from the rest..but now they're just the same, any tunes you hear on Nova can be heard on any other station, in John Creedoms case ..better.

Theyre stuck in a rut now and there's no way out..they can continue to move people around all day long but the station is rotten now...they've lost any respect from anyone who doesn't like mainstream chart rubbish..
If they had concentrated on the music rather than presenters things could have been so good for their listeners and ultimately the station...

The breakfast show is awful. Barely any music played and when it is it’s mostly sh1te.

Hayes is awful and so smug. He actually makes Kennedy bearable.

    Such a shame.

And if I hear that ad one more time saying Hayes is up to “12 followers on MySpace..” I’ll ****ing scream.

Can’t face going back to Newstalk in the morning. Banned myself from listening to all the depressing stuff on my way into work and that was before the likes of Williams were presenting it.

Spotify seems my only option now for my 40 minute drive in the morning.

Hayes is awful. Did I mention that?

there's obviously a niche here on the radio dial....RTE Classic Rock? its our license fee

RTE Gold is not going to make the grade

Anyone manage to hear the pizza routine this morning...?

It was impressive in some ways that have nothing to do with entertainment... Other than that it was a new low for ireland.
