Lots of people do, hard to know what the best strategy is, if they were just scoping around and saw the keys they might decide to steal the car, if they intentionally are looking for that particular car they might break in and seek the keys from you through force, a car isn't worth your life but then again putting them on display for easy theft is not a good idea either.
