Thor: Ragnarok

Seemingly a trailer was shown at Comic Con, in which it details what Thor and Hulk got up to during the events of Civil War.

This image gives an idea as to what supposedly is happening.

    T3BC7p3.jpg

I'm very excited about this, but mostly because I found out that Taika Waititi is directing, who is quickly becoming one of my favourite directors, with great movies like Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Boy, Eagle vs Shark, and, of course, What We Do in the Shadows.

The guy has a fantastic eye for comedy, so I expect touching moments and extremely quotable lines throughout.

    IMDB

I'm not going to look for the Comic Con trailer and will wait until we get an official release, because you're almost guaranteed that any footage will look like it was filmed on a potato.

Don't worry Marvel aren't releasing any of the Comic Con footage outside of the Doctor Strange trailer.

Never watch a trailer that isn't from an official source, or you'll more than likely be disappointed...

Do we know was it directed by Waititi? There we pics revealed of them filming in NY so safe to say Strange will make an appearance.

I think it was Waitti who shot the stinger for the credits.

James Gunn did a lot shooting on the Strange sets as well he shot Stan Lee's cameo as well as Lee's for the next 4 film cameos at the same time.

To save Lee from traveling to much over the next few years they said.

From where the universe left off previously I’m presuming that was a mid movie scene from Ragnarok (like the one after Ant Man) rather than a scene that occurs before it.

The colour styling makes me think they're going back to the style of the first Thor movie over the serious & greyness of the 2nd.

I still haven't gotten my head around Taika Waititi as director.

    Different planets.

    Different planets.

People in the TV series such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones etc have no idea they such advanced civilization live on other planets in the same universe. The bad guys on TV would be swatted like fly's by the mega villians like Thanos

Looks like it will be too much of a comedy for my liking.

Surprised there wasn't a record scratch at the beginning of the trailer there.

Looks like a lot of fun to me, especially after how boring The Dark World was.

Not sure of the name but is an xmen in there? The one that absorbs power to use in his gun?

I doubt it... great character though.

Nope, it's Idris Elba playing Heimdall once more, albeit looking a little scruffier than usual...

Thor getting dragged around like a ragdoll for most of the trailer. Seems they've completely underpowered him once more, just like they've done for the whole MCU so far. Going by the trailer and what we've seen of the universe so far, are we supposed to just assume he's on par with the Hulk in terms of strength without Mjolnir despite action set pieces continually showing otherwise?

Looks fun, was hoping we might get an MCU version of Planet Hulk but hopefully Ragnarok does a decent job its take.

The "event" and "those guys" gets mentioned in Daredevil etc. They leave that stuff to the likes of Ironman and co.

I've always thought the Netflix TV shows should stop being so coy about referencing the events of the MCU with these subtle nods. I get why they feel the need to, and some of the politics in Marvel between the TV & film divisions, but at the end of the day, New York was trashed by a full-on alien invasion through a wormhole.

It feels jarring that these series which supposedly emphasise the 'street level' view of the Marvel world wouldn't be turned upside down by those events. Hysteria, jingoism, paranoia, political strife should be everywhere; heck people should be crippled in therapy just from having a giant space-slug crash on their apartment, yet all we get at these winks & nods like it was any other week.

Haven't read the comics but is this incorrect? Would Hulk just batter Thor?

They are supposed to be on the same level. But you wouldn't know it going by the films.

    Liking it so far

got that "guardians " vibe off it too. not a bad thing IMO.

LOL'd at the part where he shouts "yes" when he recognises the hulk.

    :D

Thor in the comics would be much stronger than the Hulk. Thor fought and beat the celestial Exitar the Exterminator. When he was fighting Beta Ray bill he hit Bill so hard he broke the planet they were on.

In the comics his hammer doesn't augment his strength this actually his belt Megingjord.

MCU Thor is a complete pussy compared to the comics unfortunately.

Liked that trailer. Great music choice too, and I'm confident that Waititi will deliver one of the best MCU films to date

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

its a stupid thing to be focusing on but i love the "logo effect" too.

takes me back to very early 80s Sci/FI stuff like battle beyond the stars flash gordon and the like, in fact im pretty sure the original transformers film used the effect in its trailer too.

    :D

man im still smiling at it. gotta give them top marks for a trailer that hooks without spoiling.

What I love most is that Taika Waititi's stamp can be seen throughout the trailer, especially with the "we're friends from work" joke. So damned excited about this.

I can understand it actually, if Thor was as strong as he is in the comics, it would suffer from the same problem that all the Superman films suffer from, namely a character that can solve any problem with brute strength.

At least Hulk has the down side of uncontrollable rage while he has his strength.

I thought that it was a very good trailer, very unusual for it to not show off the entire film.

I was expecting something more given the way James Gunn hyped it up. He was obviously just flattered by the Guardians Vibe off it. Think he meant to say best Thor trailer not Marvel trailer.

That looks awesome fun. Love the "I know what you're thinking, how did this happen" intro and the "we're friends" line. Really looks like this will be fun fun fun while at the same time changing the landscape of the MCU (Asgard getting blown away?). Also, I love how this looks like it'll seamlessly introduce the Avengers/Asgard 'world' to the grander of GotG 'world'.

Best part of this trailer is no sign of Natalie Portman and co.

I believe I remember reading once that Hulk would ultimately win in a fight between the two. Whilst Thor is just as strong as Hulk in terms of pure muscle, Hulk wins out because he is virtually unkillable.

It'll be great to see them actually go toe to toe in this as Thor really was held down for the sake of the movies to make it seem like he actually had a challenge in the movies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,852 ✭✭✭✭Skerries

well the Hulk actually gets stronger the angrier he gets so he would beat him if the fight went on long enough

    but Stan Lee disagrees

Looks great. This could be the best year yet for Marvel movies with GotG, Spiderman and this. Hopefully they deliver, all 3 look great from what I've seen so far.

I also loved the graphics :D

In terms of who would come out on top, Thor probably has the slight edge in the comics, and Hulk has had the slight edge in other media (as they tend to meet in Hulks own tv shows etc). Thor was made to be Marvel's answer to Superman and stronger than Hulk, but that idea was quickly dropped due to Thor's lack in popularity. People will debate all day who would win and there is no answer, Marvel will generally always stalemate them. The point is, Thor is way underpowered in the MCU and should be on parity with Hulk (it's not a question of who would win, just a matter of some instances of Thor being brought up to his rightful level. You could also argue Hulk is under powered to a lesser degree, no incarnation of Iron-man, Hulkbuster outfight or not, ko's Hulk or even Thor for that matter). I reckon the colosseum fight is Marvels attempt to rectify the issue, to show Thor matching/besting Hulk with no Mjolnir.

And what ever happened to Odin? A long time since Thor 2, and no mention of what Loki did to him in the MCU since
