No signal to monitor after new GPU

I get no signal from anything now, no signal with old GPU, new GPU or integrated graphics. I've tried all with 2 different HDMI cables and all where applicable with DVI/VGA, also tried all with a different screen, no luck. Other than no signal, the PC seems to be running fine.

Old GPU: AMD Radeon r9 280
New GPU: GTX 1070, both are MSI
    Processor: Intel i7
    PSU: Corsair RM 750
    Motherboard: Gigabyte asrock z87 extreme4
Windows 10 if that makes a difference.

I'm pretty lost right now, and very demoralised, any help/advise would be great, thanks.

Can you enter bios? and you can't connect via the motherboard?

No, I get no signal at all, so can't get in to bios, and yeah, I get no signal from motherboard output either, with or without any gpu connected.

Have you tried a different monitor?

Always worth checking - power is going to the monitors? No unplugged or switched off cables.

Have you tried defaulting to internal graphics and resetting the CMOS on your motherboard? (See manual clearing bios settings).

Nothing else got a knock? No internal power cables are loose? Check to make sure their are no bent pins in the PCIe slot. RAM reseated?

If all that fails have you tried pulling the MB out of the case and doing a test build on something non conductive to eliminate a short?

Can you put back in your old GPU and make sure it works?

Then put in your new one and make sure the fans spin when booting.

It may remove something from your problem equation. Hopefully you only need a new type of cable.

Yeah, power is on on the monitor, it says on the screen "DVI (OR HDMI) connected no signal" or something like that

I have tried using the integrated graphics, it doesn't work either

As far as I can see, nothing got a knock, no cables are unplugged or loose, PCI slots seem fine and I had taken the ram out and put it back in at one point.

I haven't taken the MB out of the case, not sure how to do a test build though

Already tried old GPU, it doesn't work anymore.

The fans and everything spins and seems to work on both GPU's when I turn the PC on.

I've already tried 2x HDMI cables, VGA cable and DMI cable

What happens when you disconnect hard drives, did it POST?

Make sure you have not dislodged a cable from mobo. Check them all.

Do a ram check ie Run with one ram stick inserted at a time.

I'll have another thorough look now, I've tried to run it with each ram stick individually before though

Board has a debug LED on it. Use it.

The assumption would be something has been knocked loose while changing graphics cards, usually a cable.

    Have you cleared the CMOS?

    Have you cleared the CMOS?

No, I don't know how, or even what CMOS is

Do you have the motherboard manual. It's the manual way to clear all the BIOS settings. It's a common thing to do when you're getting no picture, or the post code (00) tells you too.

    Clear CMOS
    Reseat the power cables.
    Reseat the CPU.
Pull the mobo out of the case, test it on a cardboard box.
    Assume the motherboard is busted.

I've got a quick installation guide, and a software setup guide

Ok, and should I just do it with no GPU in and use integrated graphics, also so I press it when the pc is on or off?

    HOLY ****, WE HAVE VISUAL

  • Registered Users Posts: 220 ✭✭xK Marcus

Ok, I've got B4 shown now, and on the screen I have some system info and then I can run setup or continue, which one?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,934 ✭✭✭MarkAnthony

Just load optimized defaults or even just continue.

Ok, so I've got b4 shown regardless of if I have an usb devices connected, and my keyboard and mouse are recieving power, but not doing anything, so can't get passed initial screen for now.

Could it be one of the usb related wires on the motherboard?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,934 ✭✭✭MarkAnthony

It#s probably having an issue with your keyboard, disconnect all USB devices apart from the keyboard. Try it in different USB ports. Let me keep reading your manual :pac:

Okay quick skim didn't help - try just having the keyboard connected to the red USB 2.0 ports at the top next to the PS2 port (the round port).

Is the wirless card connected to a USB header on the motherboard?

Doesn't work with just the keyboard connected, also, the light for num lock is on on the keyboard, and doesn't turn off, so I'm not sure if that's relevant, maybe nothing about the keyboard responds.
