    Hi guys,
    Had a weird one today.
Called to the local station and was told that my request to be allowed possess and use a sound moderator with my hornet had been refused. I had submitted a letter along with my licence renewal requesting permission. I'd already received the licence without the s on it, so just called in to the local lad to see what the story was.
He showed me a response letter from the local super, ( I had a brief glimpse) and one thing stated on it was that Mr ACV only has permission to shoot on the land owned by Mrs .... (I had submitted a letter previously signed by a family member giving me permission to shoot on her land).
I thought I could shoot on anyone's land once I had their permission? Subject to the usual safety/legal requirements, not within the required distance of a public road etc etc

But if you have that, then you already have been granted the moderator permission, so it wouldn't be a refusal, but a revoking? It sounds like a paperwork mess.

    So;
    1) If and only if they had the sporting rights to the land; but if they did then yes, subject to the usual safety and legal requirements; however
    2) If you had permission from twenty people to shoot on their land but the Super only knew of one, that might have affected his decision and if so then you might show him the other nineteen permissions when discussing it with him.

A renewal? Was it the FCR?

If so then Sparks is right, it was a revocation rather than a refusal. IOW you had it, now you don't.

I'd go back to the Super and chat to him/her (make an appointment). Bring your other written permissions, and see if they'll change their mind.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

OP said "I'd already received the licence without the s on it,"

    Doesn't that mean 'no suppressor'?

It means no suppressor, but he also said:
.........I had submitted a letter along with my licence renewal requesting permission. ...........

Seems it was an FCR renewal. Thats why i asked was it, as they're usually straight forward enough and you usually get what you had again.

Doh, read that as "with the S" for some reason.

I'd imagine he had a licence without suppressor & decided to add a suppressor to his existing licence, at renewal.

    Possibly.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. sorry I wasn't back before now. Had a big family thing all weekend. Anyway.... I caused a bit of confusion. It was a renewal for a licence with the pre populated fcr. I've never had the s on the licence before.
When I submitted it I submitted a letter also, requesting permission to hold and use a moderator.
Permission was refused and on the letter that I got a glimpse of the super mentioned that I only had permission to shoot on one particular piece of property.
I found that to be strange. Never heard of such a thing before. No conditions in relation to it attached to the licence, so decided to check with ye. The situation as I thought is pretty much what sparks came back with too.

. No conditions in relation to it attached to the licence, so decided to check with ye. .
    Nothing on the grant letter?

Did yo get the refusal letter? If not i'd seek to have it issued to you.

Hi Cass, I got the usual grant letter for the licence for the rifle itself, with the usual conditions on it in relation to storage and number of rounds allowed.
My own belief at this stage is that as I didn't make a formal application on a new separate FCA1 (I only requested permission by letter when submitting the rifle licence renewal), then I didn't get a formal refusal letter.
The letter I got a glimpse of in the station was I think an internal letter informing the local member of the decision on my "informal" application for the mod.
Spoke to the local guy there again, met him on the road. He advised me to wait a few months and that super will be moving on and I could be luckier the next time.

So the box on the grant where they add additional conditions to the standard ones was empty?

Its terrible to think you have to wait for someone to leave to be "luckier". No such thing as "well this has merit" or "i don't grant it because of these legal points".

I'd suggest you apply again as there is no minimum time frame to wait, but unfortunately your FO is right. Its down to the person in the uniform. If you've struck out already chances are poor that you'll be successful if you apply to the same person again.
