    About 75% of the population

Donal Skehan again cos I reckon he'd be sneaky enough to escape my clutches the first time.

The human capacity to hold baseless beliefs (takes care of racism, religion, homophobia, anti-vaxxers, homeopathy etc. in one fell swoop).
Celebrity Culture - only the smallest of minds occupy themselves with the inanities of the lives of people they'll never meet.

    (1) Notions that differences in culture, religion, race, sex, profession, are essentially meaningless, and which profess them to be 'equal'. On the contrary it's these very things that cause people to be unique and individual - hence how we gain our value. In the presence of extrme equality we are left with a samey, grossly conformist world.

    (2) The idea that a religion-free, secular world would solve anything, in light that the secular world has an equal number of problems as well as creates new ones for its participants.

    (3) Other popular, photogenic, and rather safe-edgy notions - including originator of most of them - advertising and the state-set curriculum.

    (1) People who think that getting rid of the 'baseless beliefs' of others (but not their own ones of course) would solve anything, who forget that such ideas in fact stem from human nature itself, which really makes us unique as individuals and groups when harnessed. To nullify instinct and belief would effectively render us quite 'unhuman', cultureless and grossly uniform.

    (2) The idea that a religion-free, secular world would solve anything, in light that the secular world has an equal number of problems as well as creates new ones for its participants.

If that's supposed to be a dig at my post, I think you have a very warped view of humanity if you think it's baseless beliefs are what make us special in this world. Baseless ideas are called dreams and they can indeed have a positive impact on the world, baseless beliefs form ideologies which rarely do.

A world free of religion wouldn't have experienced the Crusades or the Holocaust. It wouldn't be suffering the problems we have with ISIS now. Women and gay men in the middle East and much of Africa would be living immeasurably better lives.

The the idea that religion is a true evil will always exist

Ignorance is bliss, people prefer to blame religion for issues rather than blame people

Interesting how that works isnt it

Can I ask why are you giving your own eclectic ideology a free pass? Because I don't think it deserves one if I'm truthful. They are popular notions based on nothing substantial. At least be honest and confer other people's opinions the way you meant it - as 'stupid'. Yours are of course 'enlightened'. However I would term them as 'opinionated'.

The thing about religion is that is ushers forth a moral agreement within a society where otherwise there would be none. As we see with the advent of secularism in the West it has spawned a culture war - one which has being going on now for two centuries.

This culture war is indicative of a society that doesn't know what it stands for anymore, which is ignorant of it's own roots, and lacks agreement on a common future. As such it therefore has no future.. Refer to the Romans or the Chinese empires. As soon as common their moral and intellectual truths where abandoned they where colonised quite easily from without.

I will point out that if we understand demographics, Islam is projected to become very dominant in Europe by the middle of this century because of explosive birth-rates, strong culture and mass-migration policies - this isn't by chance. One has to consequently ask themselves: maybe our 'baseless ideas' which you're hammering so carelessly had actual value, gave us stability and long-term staying power on which to build civilisation. I equate your ideas (which are not your own really, switch on a tv, they are advertised everywhere) with a lack of practicality and cultural confidence.

Hipster culture has already come and gone. I don't know why people are still moaning about it.

Haven't paid much notice , what has taken the hipster culture's place ?

I'm curious as to what ideology you think I hold?

Is the theory that we should have supporting evidence for something before we consider it to be truth that eclectic? I wouldn't consider myself particularly 'enlightened' either, though, yes, I can admit that I consider believing something without a solid foundation for doing so to be somewhat stupid.

So, if I'm reading your argument correctly, we should all be good believing Christians lest the evil Muslims take over Europe?

Baseless beliefs* can of course be a powerful basis upon which to build a culture. The Vatican is, after all, estimated to be the richest state in the world on the basis of GDP and the Catholic Church's overall wealth is virtually incalculable.

(*not ideas, you seem to keep confusing the two)

Given your previous posts we'll say for arguments sake you're atheist (comes across as this, open to correction )

Atheism is a system of belief

And lets take an extreme atheist as an example

They have a system based on absence of evidence (faith) and proselytise about why their belief system is better, trying to convert others to that system.

But absence of evidence does not equate to evidence of absence

So you see its really quite simple

You've given the perfect example by displaying the thought that you are more intelligent than those who are religious by calling them stupid based on their beliefs as you do not perceive them as 'solid'..Thus, this would reflect a degree of superiority, no? (ill stand corrected if so)

Religion is not the problem, extremists are

The solution lies in learning to unite despite minor differences....and millions of people across the world do it on a regular basis
