We still have a few chances of more qualifiers as yet with the deadline for the events outside the marathon not until the 11th July. Anyone fancy some others to make the standard and who?

Ciaran O'Lionaird(1500m) and Declan Murray(800m) are both in pretty stacked races at the Oxy High Performance meet in California tomorrow night kicking off their outdoor seasons.

Marcus Lawlor and Kelly Proper in the 200, Ben Reynolds in the hurdles, Mary Cullen in the 5000 and Barry Pender in the high jump all have a chance. No idea where they are fitness wise though.

The men's 4x400 team should qualify, but we need English and Barr fit and running well if we are to go well.

I can't imagine Fionnuala will run the 10000. It's just 2 days before the marathon.

I will be very surprised in O'Lionaird gets anywhere near the Olympic standard.

Anyone know if Paul Robinson is still hurt?

On the men's side, I'm not sure how many more will make it, but I'm looking forward to seeing which ones get closest! Quite a few of the field standards and a couple of the track ones would require Irish athletes to achieve national records to qualify. And there are a load of other events where we just don't have anyone around at the moment of the calibre required to get anywhere near qualifying.

There's a stack of Irish down to run the 5000m in Oordegem on the 28th, with Kevin Batt (13:39), David McCarthy (13:42), John Travers (13:56), Brandon Hargreaves (14:00), and Kevin Mulcaire (14:02) the pick of them.

It may come down to the quality of the fields they're running with on the night, but 13:25 is big ask for them. Niall Tuohy is down to run the 800 and Eoin Everard the 15.

There will presumably be another load running in Heusden-Zolder in July.

On the women's side, I think the 800 is one of the more likely events to throw up another couple of qualifiers. Laura Crowe and Rose-Anne Galligan have pbs within the standard and are down for Oordegem. If Ciara Mageean was feeling greedy, she'd probably make it too (she's down to run the 15 at Oordegem).

Ben Reynolds is hanging on as a quota qualifier as enough athletes haven't reached the QST. I think that'll change but if the qualifying period stopped, he'd be in.

The following are qualified for the European Championships but not Olympics (with their times)

    men
    200m - Marcus Lawler (20.74)
    400m - Brian Gregan (45.81)
    400m - Dara Kervick (46.53)
    800m - Declan Murray (1:47.28)
    800m - Karl Griffin (1:47.39)
    1,500m - Eoin Everard (3:40.20)
    5,000m - Kevin Batt (13:39.61)
    110mH - Ben Reynolds (13.48)
    110mH - Gerard O'Donnell (13.87)
    400mH - Paul Byrne (50.72)
    HJ - Barry Pender (2.26)
We also have 4x100 and 4x400 teams for the men

    Women
    100m - Amy Foster (11.41)
    200m - Kelly Proper (23.24)
    5,000m - Mary Cullen (15.26.46)
    10,000m - Maria McCambridge (33:12.00)
We also have our 4x100m team qualified

You'll hopefully be able to add Jason Smyth to that list fairly shortly as he was only 0.01 outside the European qualifying time for the 100m. It's a huge leap to the Olympics standard from there though (0.22 difference).

I expect Cullen to get the time if she's fit. Maybe O'Lionaird and Galligan too (injury dependent there too). Reynolds and Kelly Proper are closest but they need PBs to get in.

Probably the 4x400 mens team will go through. You can see the rankings here and their second time is poor enough (nearly 4 seconds slower than faster time). A Good European championships should be enough and fingers crossed both Barr and English are available for that

    http://road-to-rio.com/

There's championships in Africa and Europe so those nations most likely to improve

English will be a no goer for Euros. The relay clashes with the 800.

Zero chance they will run that standard. Not even remotely close.

Yeah, no chance. Mulcaire's 5000m PB is 14:02, so even if he kept the same pace for the same distance again, he still wouldn't have the qualification time. His likely target is Frank Greally's junior 10000m record of 30:17.

Clohisey's 10000m PB is nearly 2 minutes outside the qualifying time, and I doubt he's in 10000m shape, clearly just a chance to demonstrate fitness and form ahead of marathon selection date.

Just to put it in context, only 7 Irish men have ever run under the qualifying time of 28:00, and only 2 have done it in the last 15 years

Yep that 10k standard is one that should be lower. But no semi final in the 10k has been terrible for Irish 10k running.

Our women's 4x400 team ran 3:35 in Loughborough yesterday. Any idea if that will be enough to qualify them for Amsterdam? I know it's the average time of the top 2 performances since 1 Jan 2015. What's their other time? Any ranking list available?

Not exactly easy to get into a DL race, though it is a lot easier for distance runners to get in because of the large fields.

No but MC was on the list, and then not, very disappointing if she is out injured this close to rio with only 2 seconds away from 5k time....

A few years ago Rose-Anne was getting into these races by right. She ran her NR at the DL in London. Thought she'd kick on to sub 2 then, but she appears to have gone backwards.

I thought she would be racing it when seeing her name down,

She ran 2.03 last night in Prague. http://www.memorial-odlozil.cz/en/vysledky/800-m-z/

Herself and MC are probably the two best bets who can still qualify , time is short though.

Mary Cullen, if fit, should really be qualifying. Can't see Rose-Anne making it though. You'd imagine Kelly Proper would be a better chance of making it (though maybe you are only focusing on distance here), but she still hasn't raced, so no idea if she's injured or not.

Robinson has been out for a long time, not sure if he is back training yet. Ciaran looks to be struggling big time after running 3:53 a couple of weeks ago in a race won in 3:36. Declan Murray ran 1:48:low in the same meet. All are capable of it on their best days but all three have to make a lot of progress with only a month left.

Yes hadnt thought of her, seems to be off the scene.
MC incredibly talented and need just two seconds to get the QT. Needs to race though fairly soon. There is a 5000m in Sligo which she apparently is running 23rd June, home turf hopefully the weather gods and the pacemakers whoever they are can help her along.. https://www.facebook.com/events/1098391646887750/

Robinson has been injured non stop for some time now. Rio and Amsterdam would be off the table at this stage. Len not looking good at all, so he's a write off at this stage I think. Declan Murray is not at Olympic level to be honest.

I thought perhaps that Marcus Lawlor might threaten the 200m qualifying time, but 20.50 is such a big ask, it's probably not on the cards. The way things are going we will have nobody in the flat individual sprints which would be awfully disappointing. Ben Reynolds should make the 110m hurdles though, and of course Barr in the 400m hurdles, assuming he gets to full fitness.

Sharlene Mawdsley has an outside chance in the 200m. Quickly improving 17 year old who ran 23.64 into a 1.6 headwind at to Ton Le Gaoithe and followed it up with a second place 23.5x in Oordegem a week later. Still a big ask but she's young and dropped over a half a second off her PR in the last few months.

A couple of years I go I though Rio could have had our largest number of distance runners with Len, Robinson, McCarty etc all pushing on.
McCarty does seem to be coming back to form but I think the euro 5k would be the target as the standard for Rio is out of reach.

Paul Robinson ran 1:50.97 in Oordegem a few days ago (11th in a race won in 1:46.35) - haven't heard whether that was a tester or a rust-buster for a shot at something else.

Mary Cullen will make an attempt to run the 5000m Qualifying time of 15:24 at Sligo IT on Thursday night - 23 June. Great Britain’s Helen Clitheroe is down to pace the event and set a pace of 73-74 second laps. Also expected to take part are Kate Avery (Great Britain), Kristina Maki (Finland) and Jennifer Wenth (Austria).
A number of other 5K races are being held on the night (7-9:30pm) in an attempt to replicate the Highgate "Night of 10km PBs" event, with supporters encouraged to be close to the action on the track.
