ive been informed indirectly from gardai that a lot of these crashes are indeed suicide, but as you said they are generally logged as misadventure
They should be outed as suicides.

That will teach them not do it again.

Surely the name should be released by now? You could have telegraphed people with no phones by now.

    Think about it........

What's very shocking is the deplorable state of the mental health system in this country. The services and supports to those in desperate need and their families are very underfunded and chronically under resourced.

I do not want to know the name of the deceased man.

But I have to say I am very surprised, that in this day and age of instant information on social media and elsewhere, that there is nothing. Yet.

Just an observation, and may he rest in peace.

Absolutely. Mental health has been on the back boiler for years. And the news that the HSE has stopped recruiting to save cash, makes the possibility of improvements in that area bleak.

The cause of mental health problems could in part be the result of the puritanical attitude of the Nanny State in this country.

Everything is banned, curtailed, unhealthy, or unwise.

Where is the love of life, and all the fun gone?

Will you stop were the biggest shower of party hats on the planet and most of us break the law with gutso on a regular basis, trouble is there's the odd one of us that has a shoite time at the party, whether that's from drink, drugs, personal issues or love life and there the ones we need to look after when the music stops.
From what I've read in this thread, the HSE isn't fit for purpose. No matter what Bressie says until we fix how we care for people who end up in the health care system everything else is pointless.

i personally think neoliberalism and neoclassical theory have a lot to answer for in these matters but that is a discussion for a whole other thread. i think we re only talking about talking about mental health problems. i was recently told we re currently looking for a thousand psychiatric nurses! our new graduates are running out of the country

Single vehicle crashes in the early hours into a tree or ditch often makes me think "deliberate".

Called a car crash though. So no one will ever know really.

The inquest =death by misadventure usually.

The only suicide I've ever been connected to was a farmer with his shotgun. The Coroner recorded it as 'death by shotgun wound'. AFAIK it then wasn't classified as a suicide in the statistical records, which is important because suicide prevention services are unfunded but even more so when the stats don't show the actual reality of the numbers.

Well mental health issues must have been around for a long long time so.

Just didn't happen since Bressie and all the rest of them said it.

There has been a tough time here economically, and also quite a judgmental attitude has crept in too which wasn't always the case.

I am not saying that is the total cause of mental health issues and suicide today, but it may be a factor.

    ......
There's an old local guy who's an expert at looking down and pointing out where the bodies lie and it's not for the faint hearted.
Depending on tidal conditions they usually end up around the same place.

Anytime I drive up that way and see cars parked on the side of the road I hope they're walkers or surfers.

It's a great spot for watching the surfers surfing Aileens and the views are amazing.

But as I said the bottom of those cliffs are littered with sadness.

Hits you when put like that ... I mean .... jesus .. no words..

Mental Health & suicide is a problem here and abroad and whilst certain minorities are accepted a lot more now today.
This is all in my experience/opinion.
I feel there's a really nastiness now that excites. If there's somebody and they've a mark on there face or are slightly deformed. There often giggled at mocked. If a man is only over five foot he's rejected by many people when he enters the dating scene because he's not tall enough to make them feel secure because a man should be tall.
If somebody enjoys spending time by themselves or doesn't enjoy travelling/going to pubs and clubs. They can often be described as a bit odd because they don't follow the norm.

In secondary school people's minds are focused on 600 points or the highest points they can get. I've heard off so many people doing courses because there have high points. They never think weather they'd like it a career but it's high point so it must be good. Even of somebody says they want to do something that isn't very academic it's sniggered at.
Keeping up with the Jones. People often now feel like they've to spend thousands on cars, weddings, houses, etc because these things make you happy and what will so and so say if we don't. Whilst they spend all this money and sometimes get into death they just can't find the happiness they want because they think there doing everything right.

    Mod-Do not name names folks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,121 ✭✭✭✭Spanish Eyes

Well now that the person's name has been mentioned here, is all yer nosiness satisfied now?

The man is dead, family devastated no doubt. He wasn't who many thought it was, and that just makes my point for me. If it is the person mentioned, he was not THAT well known, so it will be forgotten. So sad really when you view the excitement of the possibility of X and Y having killed themselves being so called "famous"

How fatuous. And makes me really think that the culture of celebrity or being well known has led many live in a parrallel universe. Kardashians anyone for example?

Jesus, shallow or what. That is what is causing a lot of angst now. And a judgmental attitude towards those who may not exactly "fit in" with the drinking, drug taking, consumerist, celebrity culture these days.

Lots of people are introverts. They are very creative people, and more of them are needed. Too many shouters and hail fellas well met down the pub. Same goes for Aspergers/Autism spectrum people who also have lots to offer but they are "strange" so are shunned to a large extent.

I am fed up with people being so judgmental if they don't fit into the box created by others who judge them for their own amusement sometimes.

    Oh and another thing.

I will be very surprised if this thread lasts much longer, now that the name is out there and few really know him.

I could be wrong, but I also may have a point. Being well known in such sad circumstances is something we will all comment upon, whereas his death is just as devastating to his family even though to most of us he is not well known.

But that's human nature I suppose.

    May he rest in peace.

Really it should never been reported in the media that it was a public figure regardless of who it was. The whole intent was to tantalise rather than inform. This thread is a perfect example of what those who reported it in such a fashion hoped to inspire.

It is probably to the credit of a lot of people in the local area and in this man's home that we all weren't aware via Twitter etc much earlier. Thank God people still have a bit of decency.

I don't know who it is and I'll be honest and say I was curious but having thought about it I'm ashamed of that. RIP whoever he is.
