For something we all knew was going to happen, they really milked it.

All of the storylines were very predictable- Ramsay killed Walda, Roose and the baby etc.
But it was still a damn good episode.

Tyrion being able to interact with the Dragons so easily is interesting. There's hopefully more to that.

Finally, the Iron Islands are being brought back in - about time. So much more compelling than Dorne ever was in the books.

Bran is back and finally not annoying for once.

I really enjoyed that.... For some reason I started to feel the Jon Snow reveal was going to be a big "Fück you all" and not happen... It got too dragged out.
Episode 3 will have no Jon Snow scene. 😂 just to drag it all out further.

Enjoyed the episode over all, but MY GOD, the directing and screen writing for this show has gone to the dogs.

The resurrection scene was one of the most predictable things I've seen on TV. It just felt old, like I'd seen it before. For all the millions per episode, couldn't they come up with something more original than everyone giving up hope only for a close up and a gasp?!

Overall though, I was entertained. I just feel the show in general has dipped in quality since season 5.

I genuinely thought for a moment that Tyrion was going to get Quentyned in that dungeon and found it tense viewing.

I thought he was going to open his eyes and they'd be icy blue.

Ramsay acted much quicker than I expected. The nuance in his expression was well done.

So did Mels magic work? Or was Jon in Ghost all along?

Seeing how they skipped pretty much all warging so far i'd go with Mel's magic working from a story perspective. Even if he would have warged into Ghost there would be no way to return to a dead body even from a book perspective.

I would say both. There was certainly a hint that Ghost was involved since he woke up just before Jon gasped.

Which would make for a differnt 'resurrection' than Beric's for example.

You could see every major plot point before it happened but I still enjoyed that. Pregnant mrsTeal had to walk out of the room for the kennel scene :D

Was Balon helped off the bridge in the book? I'm struggling to recall but I thought it was just a storm that did it

I kinda thought Mel would fail but the funeral pyre would be the rebirth

I thought it would have took more to take out Roose. Flay the wee baby a bit first too. :D

Tyrion scene gave me shivers thinking my Frog Prince prediction was about to come true.

Balon saga was over too fast, part of me hoped that was Theon on the bridge. He will turn up soon and get the blame. Wonder if that was Damp Hair at the funeral

    I assumed it was.

Someone mentioned earlier about Theon getting Quentyned - I actually said to the mrs "They're not going to. . ." as he walked down the steps

I always thought that that's how it happened

“Balon Greyjoy?” Catelyn’s heart skipped a beat. “You are telling us that Balon Greyjoy is dead?”
The shabby little captain nodded. “You know how Pyke’s built on a headland, and part on rocks and islands off the shore, with bridges between? The way I heard it in Lordsport, there was a blow coming in from the west, rain and thunder, and old King Balon was crossing one of them bridges when the wind got hold of it and just tore the thing to pieces. He washed up two days later, all bloated and broken. Crabs ate his eyes, I hear.”

“Aye, but that’s not all of it, no!” He leaned forward. “The brother’s back.”
    “Victarion?” asked Galbart Glover, surprised.
“Euron. Crow’s Eye, they call him, as black a pirate as ever raised a sail. He’s been gone for years, but Lord Balon was no sooner cold than there he was, sailing into Lordsport in his Silence. Black sails and a red hull and crewed by mutes. He’s been to Asshai and back, I heard. Wherever he was, though, he’s home now, and he marched right into Pyke and sat his arse in the Seastone Chair, and drowned Lord Botley in a cask of seawater when he objected.”

I think the simplest explanation is usually the best one i.e. Jon returned to life, Ghost woke up because he sensed Jon's presence, and then Jon finished his reboot and gasped for air.

I'd be leaning towards a faceless man hired by Crows Eye in the book. Strawman theories of a Mallister sent with Theon by Robb as a just in case thing too.

Did Wanda Call her baby Michael in the Dog shed? Thought I heard it. Would be hilarious.

I hear something as Ramsey is quieting the hounds but it could also be its all right or something
But Micheal Bolton would be better

I was surprised to see Balon Greyjoy at all - he died back in A Storm Of Swords, before the Red Wedding. In the book there was no suggestion he was murdered, but we only get a hearsay version of what happened from a ship's captain.

That's how far out of sync the Iron Islands storyline is. There are large chunks of it that won't work as written any more. We don't need Asha/Yara's campaign to the North, in which she captures Deepwood Motte but is herself captured by Stannis Baratheon as he's heading for Winterfell, retaking Deepwood Motte on the way. In this episode Yara and Balon discuss the recapture of Deepwood Motte - by the Glovers, not Stannis - and Yara's shorter mission to rescue Theon from the Boltons, which failed because Reek did not want to leave Ramsay at that time. That draws a line under that part of the storyline, I think.

Surprised at the criticism, I loved it.

I just knew Ramsay was gonna kill Roose but didn't think it'd be that easy. I thought he was going to smash the babies head in when he held him. Nasty with the dogs.

I actually stood up and cheered when Wun Wun broke through. Surprised the men gave up so easily though, let's face it, they'd beaten the wildlings before.

Also a bit surprised that Bran had no part in Jons rebirth, I thought for sure they would twist that in somehow.

The scene with Melisandre washing Jons body was beautifully lit and when Tormund left the room the frame made by the open door was like a religious painting. Plus Jon looking Christlike on the slab. Perfect resurrection vibes!

Glad they didn't drag that out over more episodes. Can't wait to see what happens next now.

I was a bit disappointed with Roose though. He's always been shown to be very shrewd and he knows what a psychopath Ramsay is. You'd think he'd be a bit more careful. The way Ramsay craved Roose's approval gave him an extra layer I thought too, which they've removed now. Oh well.

Yep, this last bit made me wonder if Jon will just get dressed and leave with the wolf, and all his followers will find is an empty room, like the empty tomb.

Ramsay is in for a surprise if he attacks Castle Black and he runs into a few thousand wildlings and the odd giant.

Does Ramsey know about all the wildlings who are settled in the gift? He seems to think he will wander up to the wall and take Sansa back

Well, both Roose and Ramsay clearly understood that the birth of a legitimate male heir made Ramsay surplus to requirements. (Just a minute earlier, Roose commented that Jon Snow's illegitimacy made him irrelevant - something that got Ramsay's attention.) He was already an embarrassment to the family with his bloodthirsty ways, and it would be convenient for Roose to have him disappear. Yes, Roose made all the right noises, but while Ramsay might be hare-brained, he's not so daft as to believe them: the Boltons are defined by their treachery. Was Ramsay just going to wait around to find out how he was going to die? Nope.

Plotwise if theyd elected a new lord commander they could say "sorry, but you were dead. Feel free to go off and be a stark!". As it is, will they just go on as though the mutiny at the wall never happened?

Well I could see it go slightly different but on a similar premise; here's the exact oath taken:
Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come."
Bolded the important part; he was there until he died so he's actually free from the oath now to take the wildlings south to retake Winterfell (as per the book). Then rouse the north to come help defend the wall while they elect someone else as the lord commander basically. That way he'll not be an oath breaker and I could see in the final episode how he either becomes lord of Winterfell (under his right name) or goes back to the wall to swear the oath again.

Genuinely laughed out loud at the scene with Robert Strong and the drunk. And now he is the god of tits and wine and dragons too
