Pre empting the upcoming episode post by including some highlights from the charter. I'll try to set up each episode in advance each week; thread will be unlocked on Sunday evening.

This is ONLY about the specific episode shown on TV! No information from any other source, interviews etc. are allowed to be posted with the one exception that SPOILER tagged lore from the DVD releases and interviews will be allowed in the thread. Such information has to directly relate to the episode however and be clearly marked as for example "DVD lore from Season X relating to matter Y"
    Lore and conclusions go here

This means book readers are allowed to post but they can not reference ANYTHING from the books.

In addition anyone picking up 3 yellow cards will be banned from the forum for the current season; in case of serious enough transgressions the ban may come earlier than 3 cards

Thread will be unlocked on Sunday evening.

I was really hoping it wouldn't end like that. Very un-GOT. Everything seemed rushed except the dogs scene.

yeah it seemed a bit daft

"hey mel, um.. do you have any magic that could bring him back from the dead"

"sure i'll give it a go lol"

    completely out of nowhere.

The direwolf woke up at the same time as Jon. Probably has to be something in that.

To be fair how do you speak to a woman who you've seen a demon flying out of her vaj.

Alliser and Ollie will get a shock in the morning :D

Don't think I've laughed as much seeing someone get killed when The Mountain basically crushed the drunk.

Seemed like a rushed episode to be honest but enjoyed it!

She's a Red priest like Thoros of Myr. Thoros brought Beric Dondarrion back six times and his faith was at it's lowest the first time he brought him back, just like Melisandre. It's not out of nowhere, it's been established that people can be brought back by that religion/God.

I don't get how it was rushed either. If Jon was laying on that table for another 2 episodes, people would be moaning.

But why does Davos suddenly suggest it? That's the bit that came out of nowhere for me. Am I forgetting something from the last season, why does he suddenly care so much about Jon Snow that he'd ask if he can be brought back?

ya i know all that. but davos's decision to ask her to try it was really rushed. no debate, no pondering about it, just popped his head into her room and it was basically the first thing he said - "oh hi mel, bring him back would ya?". not to mention davos supposedly hates mel and her magic.

jeez people on reddit seem genuinely surprised at jon coming back. surely this was the most predictable plot move of the entire show?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,975 ✭✭✭iMuse

Woo hes back...I'm just glad they didn't drag it out any longer than necessary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,198 ✭✭✭PressRun

Everyone knew it was going to happen, best to get it out of the way early instead of milking it only to arrive at the same conclusion much later. What's more interesting to me is whether or not there'll be any effect on who he is as a person as a result of all this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,841 ✭✭✭lertsnim

Ramsay Bolton is brilliantly evil. Joffrey is nothing beside him.

Jon Snow coming back from the dead was obvious when it was just him and the wolf in the room but I think most people guessed that would happen a long time ago.

I dont know about you guys but Im so up for Ramsay Bolton. I want him to beat all the other houses and the white walkers and the dragons and just rule everything. What a character, what a guy

My OH as she looks away from the screen: "Ramsey's going to throw the baby on the fire isn't he?"

Me a few seconds later: "Nope, just feed it alive to his hounds."

Personally, I want to see the character die a slow and painful death...but not just yet.

    Jon Snow's revival was dire.

There was far too much focus on his body, it would have been better to see The Others have an attack on the wall.

I thought The Red Woman would have to sacrifice herself in order for him to come back from the dead. A huge sacrifice is always needed!

The Nights Watch would have been busy defending Castle Black from the Others. They end up on retreat and there's Jon Snow. All of them scared sh**less. ;) He draws out the Valyrian sword and there is a wtf moment :D

I thought she would have to die to bring him back especially showing a weaker side to her in the last episode.
Not a fan of the idea of bringing people back to life so easily

    Brilliant episode..

I agree with the bringing back Jon, we all knew it was happening.. best not to drag it out..

Bring on the rest of the series now

I think what he was getting at was that there was no dramatic catalyst or event that led to her doing it other than Davos just casually asking her as if he was asking if she had change of a twenty. The build up to the ''resurrection'' was very ho-hum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭leonil7

[ul][li]well i thought fire burning would resurrect jon. but i suppose it would have served its purpose- bring back confidence to Melisandre who seems to be in a state of doubt and depression. they are both (Davos and Melisandre) going to advise Jon now, replacing Stannis as the 'chosen one'.[/li][li]Flashback at winterfell was promising, new characters esp Lynna and talking Hordor. i thought so from the very beginning, there's something more to Hordor .. probably even Lynna's confidante.[/li][/ul]

^^ ideally that should have been the scenario walking through the flames similar to Daenerys.

But perhaps R+L=J would be revealed too soon.

Anyway I thought the season so far is good apart from Jon's resurrection. Done very poorly IMO.

Good episode evn though it felt rushed in the end. I loved the bit where the mountain smashedd the drunks head against the wall. It is the unexpected violence that is usually the best. Alot still being setup for a few episodes down the line.

Significantly better than the first episode.

Losing the Roose is a big blow through - and somewhat out of character for him. He was deliberately riling Ramsay up: I think he would have been a bit more on his guard. Roose was always one for security over honour: I think that if he had intended disposing of Ramsay due to having a "legitimate" son he would have kept that under wraps. You didn't see him making snide comments to Robb such as "you know what happens to bad kings? They get stabbed in the back". Really hoping for a longer downfall to Roose, over way too quick.

Rest of the episode was pretty solid, but the direction for Snow rebirth was a bit awkward. The only question was whether it was going to be dragged out into the next episode. It's hard to get a good feel for how much time has passed: when we saw Karl Drogo being resurrected he was brain dead because too much time had passed, while Beric Dondarrion was resurrected almost immediately (less than a minute after being killed by Sandor Clegane).

But why do shows and films keep showing keeping getting hit with enough force that it would knock them unconscious? Arya would be lucky to not have a brain haemorrhage after being hit by a quaterstaff to the head.

Much better than the first episode, have to say I love Ramsey, he's a complete sadistic psychopath and he's not one bit cowardly either which makes him an extremely dangerous and intriguing character. Can't say I didn't see him killing his father (his father really should have known his son would eventually do him in) but I thought we'd have to wait longer to see it.

Speaking of which, great to have Jon back so soon, I was dreading them dragging it out which I think would have wasted the season a bit. Things are moving along nicely now, let's hope it continues.

I dunno how they were gonna do Jons resurrection right to be honest. Putting him emerging from the flames or something like a phoenix or azor ahai choosen one type would have been way too much. It not like he is an immortal superhero or anyway he could trip down a flight of the stairs tomorrow and mel would need to ask the lord of light again. Perhap doing it a bit understated was the way to go , as big as Jon Snow is the show is far too big for one character.

Oh man, I just did a little happy dance at the end of that episode :D

Something's been bugging me, though...does Davos still not know what happened to Shireen yet? I couldn't see him being so convivial to Melisandre if he knew the truth.

I like the scene of Tyrion with the Dragons. It sobered him up for the first time in years! Also, the scene with the Mountain killing the drunk was just funny :pac:

It seems like its easier to bring people back from the dead than supersizing your meal deal at a drive-thru.

Good episode, looking forward to seeing what happens with the Sparrow story line. Would be hilarious if they brought Jon Snow back from the dead, only to have Ramsay kill him.

Probably not, its plausible for him to think that she just got killed by the Boltons in battle, it might be part of whats keeping Davos going . Mels melancholy probably hasn't gone as far to admit she got him to burn the child at the stake. Was it the life for a life that got Jon back i wonder.
