KFC has launched an investigation after the chain was caught serving ice with bacteria from faeces on it.

The shocking discovery was made at the KFC branch in Birmingham's Martineau Place by researchers from BBC One's Rip Off Britain show.
They were looking into food hygiene standards at several big name takeaways and coffee shops.
Experts said most the samples turned up low and harmless levels of bacteria – but warned customers could get sick from the bug found in the KFC drink.
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/664073/KFC-Birmingham-Martineau-Place-BBC

The only explanation is water out of the toilet was used to make the ice.
Finger licking good it is not.

There is no way this could of been an accident and too be honest I think people should thick twice about eating from filthy fast food outlets.

I know this story is from England but let us not forget many of us have been eating horse quarter ponders for years without knowing it.

Surely the most likely explanation is a member of staff washing their hands in the wrong water.

KFC is absolute trash food. It's the bottom of the list for fast food outlets.

I never get ice in my drinks, machines like those are cleaned once a century.

Probably just accidental and it could be worse :

It's not just filthy fast food restaurants.
I worked in a spa in a fancy hotel and we got fed for free but had to wait in the kitchen to put our order in. If you saw the state of the kitchen, and the way the staff were, (dessert chef person licking their fingers, another lad picking his nose) you'd never eat there again. We used to just get sandwiches if one chef was on. You could get the dinner if the cleaner chef was working.

Where I work now there's a restaurant nearby and you see them out in their white clothes and apron smoking. Nasty af.
If anything I'd say the likes of supermacs is probably cleaner, cause at least you can kinda see the work area.

    .

Actually it could be a number of other factors, which is far more worrying than mick using water from the jacks to make a few ice cubes.

    People are too sensitive.

Bacteria can be good for your immune system.

I can remember when I was working in a place in a shopping centre and I was down in the loading area where deliveries for units for that particular section are.

There was pallette of chicken dropped off for KFC, it was just left sitting there and I noticed there was two cats clawing at it.

Coliform turns up a lot, it's the, 'taytay', of food contamination.

Ikea (and countless others..) get done for it every few years. Just google..

The popularity of KFC is mystifying to me. I've been in it about 6 or 8 times in my life and without fail I feel queasy half an hour later then the next morning I can actually see the grease coming out the pores on my face.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34 rhabarbarum

Not surprised, honestly. Most fast food chains cannot afford proper food preparation standards.

There's no way you can make an assertion like that based on the information you got. It could have been a burst pipe somewhere, it could have come from dirty hands, broken machinery.

Where I work now there's a restaurant nearby and you see them out in their white clothes and apron smoking. Nasty af.
What difference does it make?

Given the fact that you go into KFC for crusty fowl, you can't really say getting some crusty gowel is that much of a change to the order.

KFC has gone downhill since they were in Oconnell st in the current supermacs site.
    Can't remember when that was 80's/90's. ?

As for kitchens.....I've been in the kitchens of some of the upmarket restaurants in the Stephens green area. ..Suffice it to say, I wouldn't eat in the restaurants!

KFC used to be beautiful. Finger lickin good indeed. The skin used to be light and crispy and everyone used to go and on and on about what it could be that was in their recipe that made it taste so damn tasty and that was just the outside of it. The chicken itself was succulent and moist and with every bite you went to heaven. It was quite simply divine. Their coleslaw sublime.

Now it's shit. It's over salted, mulchy, tasteless gloop. It's nothing short of a God damn disgrace to be quite honest.
“Yet each man kills the thing he loves,
By each let this be heard,
Some do it with a bitter look,
    Some with a flattering word,
The coward does it with a kiss,
The brave man with a sword!
Some kill their love when they are young,
    And some when they are old;
Some strangle with the hands of Lust,
Some with the hands of Gold:
The kindest use a knife, because
The dead so soon grow cold.
Some love too little, some too long,
    Some sell, and others buy;
Some do the deed with many tears,
    And some without a sigh:
For each man kills the thing he loves,
Yet each man does not die.”

It just tastes cheaper and greasier. On the 2 occasions I've had it, I needed to lye down afterwards before I threw up.

Seriously guys, this is nothing new. A quick Google of 'Ice Machine Cleanliness Research' will tell you that.

Ah for fúck sake. I've got KFC from there a handful of times in the past few months. Everyone knows all the staff are useless, but I didn't expect there to be shite around the kitchen.

they are washed out every day. All equipment is cleaned daily.

I worked in fast food and restaurants, fast food was the cleaner and stricter when it came to hygiene

Maybe thats why they call it fast food as it gives you the runs.

I think when KFC were told that they couldn't use the word Chicken to describe any of the options on their menu, people should have realised how poor KFC food actually is. To learn their staff **** in the ice cube machine is not surprising.

I do remember hearing from a friend of mine who did contamination testing that in a KFC the only conceivable way there could have been the amount of fecal bacteria contamination that they found was if the staff were actively rubbing crap into the counters.

Thankfully I've never been a fan of the place.

People are not going to have realisations based on things that happen in your imagination.

It's definitely really bad. The chicken does not taste like chicken. The grease is appalling.

That's a myth. Basically if you hear someone saying things like these about fast food places it's more than likely a myth. Fast food places sell cheap, greasy food. It's not good for you but it still comes from the same place as the rest of your food.

I avoid any fast food places as much as possible. Friend of mine was looking at a roof in a fast food place that needed fixing as was leaking. It was upstairs and all the containers for burgers snack boxes cups etc were stored up there and he said the amount of mouse sh!t around the floors was unreal. Puke.

Same with a lot of pubs. Take off the kickboard under the shelves that the glasses are stored on and you'll be in for a shock.

Thighs , legs and wings are greasy but the breasts are fine. At least it's real chicken and not formed like the deli will sell you in your chicken roll.

KFC is my preferred fast food place. If I'm going to eat fast food I like to do it properly. None of those awful 'fries' or hamburgers with a sliver of meat, or watered down drinks. Just a few pieces of fried chicken will do fine.

I'm quite partial to the Colonel's Original 3 piece meal. The stuff KFC put on the chicken make it irrestible.

I'm sure the faecal coliforms in the ice was caused by staff not washing their hands properly and NOT sh*tting in the ice machine.
