Sleeping positions

What's the most comfortable position? I love sleeping on my tummy, but I have eyelash extensions in and this is causing them to fall out. I'm also a big fan of sleeping on my side, and alternate between the two at night. Alas, I can't do that because it's causing one side to fall out faster.
So that leaves sleeping on my back. People who find this position comfortable clearly are weirdos. It's the worst.

Agreed. But it can depend on who;s on top...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Always on my side unless I'm locked, I could be upside down for all I care at that stage.

Inverted lotus position, big toes in ears. I've experimented with other positions, but that's how I always wake up.

    Foetal position, mostly :pac:

Sometimes I'm the weirdo that sleeps on his back. Also, I don't use a pillow on most nights.

I let my housemate into my bed one night for spooning and he told me it was like sleeping with sonic the hedgehog :pac:
On my side. Bum out, legs pulled up. What I wouldn't give to be like sonic tonight.

On my back usually, although last night the bf was over so I was on my stomach for most of the night :pac:

    AH is filthy tonight!

After administering self flagellation I prepare for my special sleeping position. "Bed" is a slab of concrete with one sheet on top of it. I put myself in to restraints so as my wrists are held up over my head and both ankles are secured to each other at the bottom. It's an automatic system that clicks in to place with the use of a remote control. Think of the little one you have for your telly.

On my side until I'm about to nod off, then I remember something embarrassing I did when I was eight and toss and turn for the rest of the night

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,241 ✭✭✭✭Kovu

Most nights I sleep on my back with my right hand behind my head and left knee bent so the flat of my foot is against the calf of the other leg. The cat sleeps between me and the wall just below my right shoulder.

Never realised it was so weird until I typed that :pac:

Mostly sleep on my belly one leg straight one bent. Arms underneath the pillow.

The splat position is what I call it. But the covers have to cover my ears, but not my face. And not have any gaps around my neck. Or any draughts elsewhere either.

I'm cursed with a feet-sticky-out partner though and he likes to put the covers over his face. So I get an overly warm face and cold feet. And I dislike being snuggled - he is a spooner. I don't mind a few minutes of it but after that, off with you to the other side of the bed thanks. Apart from that, we get on mighty.

Kid is worse though, kicks off the blankets and wakes you, kicks you pretty much everywhere, and the occasional headbutt too. And wakes up at Stupid O'Clock all cute and bouncy and you have to get up right this instant. I'm sooo looking forward to the teen years. I will have my vengeance.

As a complete insomniac , pretty much none of them which really sucks,

Spoons are the best. They're my favourite. Even if we're fighting, unless it's a really bad fight, a truce will be called and I'll still get my cuddle. I'm so needy at nighttime :(

Charging alcove is upright, so 'sleep' upright.

I sleep curled in a ball surrounded by more pillows than is good for me. I can find it very difficult to share a room, never mind a bed with another person. When I can then it's an indication of how comfortable I am around them.

Spooning is great but after a bit I have to find my own little spot.

I agree. Spooning and cuddling is great for a while.

Then there's the awkward few minutes of how the fcuk do I get out of this and sleep.

    Works for me!

0 being upright on ones back... I can sleep anywhere from 70 to 300 ish.

That said, when I camp, and I do regularly, I fire my hammock up and sleep on my back. Makes no sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,073 ✭✭✭✭bnt

Always on my side, never on my back. I have a fat memory foam pillow which keeps my head straight when on my side; if on my back, I would use no pillow at all, but I suspect I would snore. So side it is.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

I usually sleep in the foetal position with the duvet wrapped tightly around me or on my stomach - The joy of having small boobs :pac::D

leeping on my back. People who find this position comfortable clearly are weirdos. It's the worst.

    Yeah, good one.

When I was 17 I broke my spine (not my intention!). Initially told i'd never walk again, but survived, aided by sleeping on bed-rest (on my back) for 4 months in hospital. I had no choice but to sleep on my back, static for all of those 4 months (with the exception of bed-sheet changes and nurses wiping my arse)

Ever since (over 10 years), this has been the norm for me. I just got used to it. I'm sure I fumble around in my sleep, but I fall asleep on my back and tend to wake up in same.

    Weirdo I am, alright :pac::rolleyes:

    Thanks for asking

Generally on the side, looking away from the wall.

Currently this means on my right side, but it used to be on my left side, when the bed was in a different location in the room. Both times I'd end up dacing south-west.

When in hotel rooms, I tend to sleep on my left side, although I sometimes sleep on my back when drunk.

If I sleep on my back, I usually snore.

I'm married to a woman who makes me sleep on my left side because I snore if I'm on my right or on my back. It makes my shoulder sore sometimes and I wake and she is snoring. Should I look for a new bed or a new wife ?

I sleep in the fetal position, the side is decided on the night... I usually change from left to right every second night, it's totally weird.. Right now I'm in the fetal position with my legs on top of the gf pretty comfy atm :P

I sleep on my side or on my back- never my belly- I'd feel ill. I find I turn to the left when I'm finally about to nod off. I sleep on the left hand side of the bed also

I basically sleep on my right side in the recovery position, right leg straight, left leg bent, right arm straight out left hand under my face. I can't do it on my left side because my sinus condition makes my nose block so in reaching for the water bottle every ten minutes.

This is me. Sometimes I could turn to the left but always start that that way.

Rarely on my back. I snore when I'm on my back and the OH likes to wake me up to tell me I'm snoring :(

I sleep on my side. I switch sides constantly until I fall asleep. Two pillows with one hand under the top pillow cupping my face.

I usually wake up in the middle of the night to turn the pillow onto the cold side.

Yes, this. It removes all pressure from the lower back. Arms underneath the pillow is a bit weird though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,398 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

On my stomach with the right side of my face on the pillow, well on my arms which are folded under my head, and with my right leg stretched out and my left foot across the back of my right knee.

Also sleep diagonally across the bed much to my OH's annoyance.

Go to sleep on my front. Once sleeping I move on to my side. If in a really deep sleep I will end up on my back. Especially when the room is hot.

All that goes out the window when under the influence though....could sleep on a clothes line.

'Hey mate, you have two choices. Stop breathing on me, or stop breathing. It's entirely up to you.'

    Tends to do the trick.

    Yes, I'm single.

One arm under pillow, head on pillow and on my belly with one leg hanging out of the bed.
I've found it's the best way to sleep to avoid the 'sleep kung fu' of the missus and leaves adequate space for the cat to come into the bed without him having to attack me for me to make space.
It's essentially a defensive sleeping position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,775 ✭✭✭✭kfallon

The feet usually end up outside the duvet otherwise I overheat!

Sleep on my side in me 'pelt'

    Is that you Mr. Bilzerian?

I used to always sleep on my stomach.

Now I have to wear a CPAP mask at night and can only sleep on my back.

On my stomach, one arm underneath the pillow and one leg higher up and bent. Any other position and it takes me forever to get to sleep, and even then I'll keep waking up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 984 ✭✭✭gutenberg

Generally on my back - this is the position I most commonly fall asleep in. I have a pillow folded under my knees, to support the lower back - initially it was because I was experiencing some backache, but now it's just habit. Helpful since our mattress is crap.
I'll sometimes turn onto my side (which side varies) before falling asleep, and I'll often wake up on my right side in the morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,731 ✭✭✭✭osarusan

On my side. Either side. Facing away from whatever light source might be in the room.
