I would think it'd bother real Catholics but that's me being logical again.
If you're a mender of a club and don't follow its rules then what normally happens is that you set up a new club. You dont just say Im ignoring your rules and theres nothing you can do about it.
There are loads of religions that are close to Catholicism but aren't because they have their own rules or side beliefs.

We have Catholics in Ireland at both sides of the argument for mass going, contraception, same sex marriage, abortion, evolution, genesis etc. There are so many conflicting beliefs that the only common denominator is that they're all human.

Of course the church isn't going to enforce its own rules. It'd be gone tomorrow if it did that.

I'm married to an 'a la carte' Catholic regarding church attendance and she happens to be very devout person, prayers every night - crucifixes all over the house and pictures of all the saints. According to the 'rules' up above she's not a catholic. But she feels she is and that's it. I don't really understand where you're coming from, as you stated you're an agnostic atheist. Why are you still processing it in your head ?

Because I have a brain. My brain doesn't turn off in regards to religious stuff just because I'm an atheist. You do understand that people are allowed to question other beliefs don't you.
If Muslim laws came to Ireland I'm hoping you wouldn't say well I'm a Catholic so I can't question this stuff.

I accept that people have the right to say whatever religion they want to say they are. I'm not trying to ban them. I'm just asking how they justify it. Implying I shouldn't ask because Im an atheist is not a valid answer.

So the church are the people and whatever they say the religion is, that's what it is? That's ridiculous because that would mean that Catholicism is both for and against gay marriage, it is both for and against abortion, it is both for and against contraception, it both believes in transubstantiation and it doesn't, etc...

The only common thread is that the people call themselves Catholic, so if I were to do so then the Catholic church now both believes in god and it doesn't.

If she doesn't subscribe to alot of the core catholic stuff and mass really is one of those as it includes eating Jesus which is pretty important, is she not just a christian?

I'm locking this thread as it's moved away from 'too much trash talk against Christianity' discussion to 'Christianity deserves it because of X'.

There is very little contribution to offer examples (and subsequent discussion) of said trash talk.

The thread is just becoming a melting pot of school patronage/same-sex marriage and even creationism.

There are threads for those so people that wish to continue those particular discussions are free to do so.
